News at Home: A Low Key Week

This week fairly low key! I mean I was busy, as I always am, but nothing too major going on. Nothing left to organize or deep clean at home, so it was just maintenance cleaning. I did go in to school Thursday and Friday to start setting up my classroom. It’s 80% done already, as I have a lot less to do this year than I did last. I would have even less, except I’ve completely changed the layout to try to make things a little smoother.

I’ve also decided I need to do some of the weeding out I did at home in the classroom. I have a harder time letting things go at school because I don’t always know what I’m going to need with curriculum changes and all. But I need organization to stay sane and that’s going to mean some weeding out. I’m sure there’s some things I CAN’T get rid of, but hopefully it’s the things I may need, not the things I know with certainty I’ll never need. So that will be on the agenda some next week, though I don’t plan to spend much time at school next week – it being my final full week really truly off!

Blog News

I didn’t get quite as many posts drafted this week as I wanted to, but I’m done with August – except Sunday posts and My TBR List, which have to be drafted more currently – and I’m making headway on September. I also didn’t get around to visiting quite as much as I would have liked this week, still trying to work out a solid routine that includes time for blogging – now that I’ve changed my mornings to do my Miracle Morning.

#FitReaders Update

A much better week fitness wise! I got in exercise 5 days this week and tracked everything I ate since Tuesday! I think my Miracle Morning is really helping me stay focused, as a part of that is Exercise and also focusing on health. I’ve noticed that I’m really, REALLY bad at taking my vitamins though, so I’m working on that!

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

I just finished…

I finished F*ck Club: Riley this week and it was really good – not at all what I expected, but in a good way (even though what I expected would have been good too). I already purchased the next one and started it!

Reading Now…

So yeah, I started F*ck Club: Con by Shiloh Walker. Just started, but I expect it to be good too, since I enjoyed the first book so much.

And I’m still working on Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, though I’m almost done with it. Man, Umbridge really is the absolute worst isn’t she?! I think she gives Voldemort a run for his money!

For my Miracle Morning self-improvement read I’m still working on Teaching with Love and Logic. I read only a few pages each morning, so it’s a slow go, but I’m really enjoying it and think it will really help me out this school year.

Up Next…

I think I’ll try to get in 1 book for my book club that meets Tuesday 15th… I’m a little late, but hopefully I’ll get to it quickly. I’ve been wanting to read A School for Unusual Girls for quite some time (since Greg reviewed it really!), so I don’t want to miss this chance to get it moved up my list.

I’ll move on to the next HP for audio – Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Man I’m getting close to the end πŸ™

All that will keep me busy reading for a while, I’m sure!

How was your week? What are you Reading?

Berls had a really low key week for once! Yay! Details in her Sunday Post! Click To Tweet

  1. A School for Unusual Girls is high up on my TBR mostly because of Greg. It looks awesome! I’m looking forward to you Woman in Cabin 10 review. I really enjoyed it but I’m not sure how much of that enjoyment was because of the narrator on the audio. I think I would listen to that narrator (Imogen Church) read the phone book and be at the edge of my seat! I can imagine a classroom would be harder to clean out than a house. You know what you’re going to need for daily life but teaching is a whole other thing! Hope this week has been great!

    • Imogen Church is not a narrator I’m familiar with, but I will be adding to my list with such high praise! Well Woman in cabin 10 was quite good and I read it, so it wasn’t just the narration πŸ™‚ Yes, that’s exactly the problem with cleaning out my classroom. But it’s got to happen! Thanks Katherine, you too πŸ™‚

  2. Awesome job on the exercise! Getting in a good habit now, before you head back to work full-time will hopefully help keep you going. That’s my intention! As for vitamins – I put mine in the drawer next to my contact stuff and face wash. So I pull them out at night when I get ready for bed and I put them in a little dixie cup to take in the morning. It’s become a habit now, and I seem to remember pretty much every day. I also have to take blood pressure meds, so it’s pretty critical I remember.

As for books… I’ve been way behind on reading this summer. But both kids have been gone this week, so I’ve finished two books and one audiobook. I hope to get in one more kindle book before they return. It’s been a reading paradise! I just finished Holiday in the Hamptons by Sarah Morgan and really enjoyed it!

    • That’s the goal! I need to come up with a system like that for my vitamins. Getting them ready the night before could be key!

Yeah for time to read without interruptions! Sarah Morgan is a fun author, glad you enjoyed it πŸ™‚ Hope you’re getting some more reading in before kids come home!

  3. It’s nice to have a low key week once i n a while. Must be nice to clean out your classroom before classes start again. i hope the new layout works well!

Sounds like you’re doing great on the blogging front as well with how you’re almost done with August already.

I heard good things about the Women in Cabin 10, I’ll have to remember to stop by to read your review Friday. I hope to do a HP re-read one day too. I re-watched the movies earlier this year, which was fun. Have a great week!

    • A low key week is always nice. Thanks, I hope the new layout works well too.

I’m really happy with how blogging is going so far, fingers crossed I can keep it up.

I need to re-watch the movies too, I guess once I’m done with the reread.

      Have a great week:)

  4. A little behind in visiting all the Sunday posts but hopefully it’s better late than never. πŸ™‚ Weeding and and getting organized is such a good feeling. All three of my bosses are on a business trip today and I’ve been doing plenty of organizing myself. It does my little neat-freak heart good. LOL

Umbridge was so horrible. I swear, I think I hated her more than Voldemort. He was apologetically a villain. No gray area there. But she was worse in my mind because she posed as someone good, toeing the line for the Ministry of Magic, while she was actually cruel and sadistic. Ugh!

    • Of course, better late than never! Lol it feels great, doesn’t it?

OMG yes! Umbridge is vicious. In many ways I do think she’s worse than Voldemort, like you said, because she plays good. I’ll be so happy to be rid of her!

  5. The Man is doing some organizing and rearranging at the house. In the process, all my seeds got thrown out. πŸ™ Glad you got most of your classroom set up. I am dreading that this year. We go back this Friday! And now I have two classrooms, hopefully for real this time with the actual lab that my yearbook students need to do their work. I need to weed out things at school, too, since I plan on leaving next year. It is really hard to know what you will need to hang on to for future years. No guarantee you won’t get moved. While you were setting up your room, I was setting up posts. I am all the way through September with all the posts I can schedule out, and handfuls of certain ones farther out than that. Hopefully you’ll get all your posts done before your time is up.

    • Nice job on the posts! I’m making good progress, so I’m very hopeful, thanks πŸ™‚

Back on Friday already! Gah, what has happened to our summer ? Good luck weeding out the classroom. Are you going to a new school/position next year or are you done teaching? Yeah – the question of what to hang on to in future years makes it much harder to throw things away at school than it is at home. Though looks like your husband got over zealous πŸ˜‰ Sorry! I threw away something my husband wanted kept too, if it makes you feel any better! LOL!

Have a great week – enjoy the last few days off!

      • Yep. Our first day of school is next Wednesday. Earliest the district has started in over a decade! After this year I want to leave teaching. My contract and vastly different start dates and the 45-day law ruined my chances of teaching jobs near The Man. I couldn’t lie and say I didn’t have one, and saying I did was just a shot in the foot. Honestly, I should let him help me decide what to get rid of. He’s much better at it than I am. Good luck weeding your classroom!

        • Ah gotcha! Well good luck with your last year and finding something new to move to πŸ™‚ Yeah let The Man loose in your room!

    • Lol! Isn’t it amazing how much we still manage to have to get rid of each time?! It’s a great feeling though πŸ™‚

    • Oh man, that will be quite the adventure – 10 years!! It’ll feel great when you’re done πŸ™‚ glad to have inspired!

  6. That’s great you are blogged ahead. I am still trying to figure out what works for me, I can only blog a week ahead right now. It’s hard to believe school is starting again soon but it’s great you are getting prepared early. I also want to read A School for Unusual Girls after seeing Greg’s review. I hope we both enjoy it. I hope you have a great week !

    • It feels great to be blogged ahead, but it’s very rare that I manage this. Maybe it will be my new norm now that I’m blogging with Michelle. I know, where did summer go? It’s flown by! Thanks, I hope you enjoy A school for Unusual girls too πŸ™‚ have a great week!

  7. I can’t believe school is getting ready to start up again. I hope you have a smooth start. A low-key week or two is probably just what you need before the year starts to get busy. I’ve been busy with family this week as Grandpa was back in the hospital but he’s out now and seemed okay when I visited him yesterday.

    • Sorry to hear about your grandpa, but glad to hear he’s doing better! I know, I can’t believe school is getting ready start either – technically I have until the end of the month, but I have to go back the 16th, so break is basically over πŸ™ have a great week!

  8. I am the worst teacher pack rat! You just never know what you might need! What if you switch grades? What if the curriculum changes (totally likely!)? Its impossible to get rid of things. I used to teach year round and every 9 weeks we had to pack up our rooms and move out. Then, after our 3 week break we moved into a different room. I got VERY good at streamlining and only keeping essentials then, but after I left year round, I started hoarding again. Sigh. Oh well!
    Have a great week!

    • Exactly! I’ve only been at it for 2 years but I’ve kept things I probably shouldn’t and inherited even more. Quite a lot is going to find its way to the teacher lounge with a sign saying help yourself in the next couple weeks πŸ™‚ did you like year round school? I feel like it has to be better for the kids! But packing up every 9 weeks? No thank you! Lol! Have a good week πŸ™‚

  9. You’re done with August?!! Woman, you rock! I’m hoping to get a bit more “ahead” this week, while still working on my own decluttering projects. Have a great week, and enjoy your last full week of vacation!

Lark recently posted: Sunday Post – 8/06/2017
    • LOL it’s so much easier to be ahead like this with only half a blog to care for πŸ™‚ Decluttering projects take time, but man do they make you feel good when they’re done! And it’s so much easier to move forward productively in an organized space πŸ™‚ Good luck getting everything done!

  10. My goal is to get a few posts ahead also but oven been focusing on reading. I am hoping once vacation is over I can start fresh. I have some idea of what I want to do plus I have a bunch of posts to do in December I need to organize. Glad this week was low key!
Have a great week, Berls! Happy Reading! ox

    • I haven’t read the book yet, I’ve just read articles about it, so it’s on my list to read as part of my miracle morning soon. I really struggle with the SAV part of it – they aren’t things I’m used to doing. But I do feel my struggling though them is useful. I’m hoping that once I read the book, I’ll become better at those things. But regardless, yes! I do feel that my productivity is way up!

      Have a great week Hillary!

  11. Hard to believe school is almost here SMH. Nice that you’ve got a good head start though- and on the blog too! I’m still getting used to the fact that it’s August lol.

Ooh a woman in Cabin 10 review! πŸ™‚

Greg recently posted: Sunday Post #206
    • I know, I really don’t know where the summer went. I could have sworn I’d have more time! It’s like this every summer. Definitely feels good to be so ahead though. I’m hoping for that elusive work-life balances this year!

Yes, I finally got to Woman in Cabin 10! It was on my list because of you and I’m so glad πŸ™‚ That’s all I’ll say for now, the rest is in the review πŸ™‚
