Turkey, Christmas and Blogging ~ WIR & TSP

Posted November 27, 2016 by Michelle in The Sunday Post, WIReadview / 31 Comments

WIR&TSPWeek in READ-view is a post I have posted on Sundays telling you what I have been up to this week and what I read or am reading. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the awesome Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, post a recap of the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

On the Blog, Books & Real Life:

Turkey has been eaten and the Christmas decorations are up. It’s beginning to look like my favorite time of year. Our scout Elf is back in our house also, the kids are so excited. I heard he plans to hide a little harder this year, it’s fun to watch them try to find him.

The weather has been stupid and needs to drop down a few more degrees to make me happy. I would also like, maybe, a little snow…just sayin!

Spending the weekend catching up on what I wasn’t able to do this week. Hoping to continue with writing posts and organizing. I made sure to leave yesterday and today open so I can focus on blogging. I have lots of posts to get finished and some goal posts to set up. Just need to figure out what books I want to add to my 2017HW challenge and my list for the Bookish Resolutions. I also have some fun holiday post series that I am working on that I hope to be up by next week.

You might start seeing a lot more on my blog since I need to keep myself busy, I am officially 6 days Smoke FREE. I had quit for 2 years and last year when my son went into the hospital I started up again. I hated every minute of it and how it made me feel. I am happy to report that I am doing, OK, it’s not easy but I did it once, I am sure I can do it again. So fingers crossed. I have an app to help me and I show it to my daughter, she is so proud of me and I don’t want to disappoint her. She is my motivation, I can’t break her heart by starting again. I can totally do this! 🙂

Apparently 2016 isn’t finished with us yet. Taking Mrs. Brady (Florence Henderson) on Thursday, I was so sad. The Brady Bunch was always a favorite of mine. I was so sad to hear of her passing and I had just watched a Hallmark Christmas movie with her in it. I am really over this year already.

  1. My mom quite smoking in the 90s after my brother went through the D.A.R.E. program. He was crying himself to sleep because he didn’t want her to die — his elementary school equated nicotine to heroin. It was a bit extreme but it worked. Good luck going smoke-free I’m sure you’ll do great!

  2. Big congrats on being smoke-free for six days, Michelle! Go you! I’ve never smoked so I can’t really imagine how hard it must be to quit. I sure wish my younger sister would quit. Sounds like you have some pretty great motivation to stick with it. 🙂
I have King by T.M. Frazier, too, but have yet to read it. I bought it a year or so ago because she was going to be at a book event I was attending. So I met her, got my book signed… and *still* haven’t read it! Need to get on that.

  3. Well done on quitting smoking! A great achievement. I’ve never been a smoker, but struggle with food-related obsessions, so….

I’m waiting until December to put my decorations up, but I guess that’s only a few days away. And well done on being organised blog-wise. I’m going away in early-Ish December so should try to get some extra blog posts written for then!

  4. Great job on quitting smoking! And having your family help you is a good motivation. I was so sad when I heard Florence Henderson and Ron Glass (Barney Miller, Firefly) passed away. We grew up with their shows so they will be missed. I don’t have my Christmas decorations up yet. This weekend was so busy so we’ll need to decorate next weekend. I hope December doesn’t fly by too fast, I can’t even think of my goals for next year lol. I hope you have a great week!

  5. Congrats on quitting smoking, Michelle!! You can do it!! Remember in Chicago, I had just quit, and I’m still smoke free now. It’s been a little more than six months, and I feel so much better. I’ll be your cheerleader!!
It sounds like your house is all ready for Christmas 🙂 You need to make sure you’ll be able to tell us all about the scout Elf 😉
    Love you and miss you!! {{{BIG HUGS}}}

    • Yes I remember, good for you! I hope to be the same. So far I am doing very good. My daughter is my motivation and she is pretty good at showing when she is disappointed.

We are all ready, our Scout Elf, Elfie Pickle, is hopefully going to keep the kids in line until Christmas. He needs to hide a little better since the kid found him as soon as the walked into the kitchen. 🙂

  6. Yay for no smoking!! I know its difficult. My husband struggled for years! But, its so worth it. There were so many amazing book deals on Black Friday it was hard to pass them up! Hope you have a great week!

  7. Congratulations on quitting smoking! I’ve seen my family go through this struggle several times so I’ve seen how difficult that addiction is to break. You can do it! I’m glad you have an amazing activity in blogging and reading to keep you busy. Also, thanks for posting about Coyer. I’ve meant to go looking to see when the next event was happening but kept forgetting. I’ll be joining you!

  8. We are hoping to get our Christmas decorations up today. The outdoor lights will have to be postponed because of the rain. I love this time of year. 🙂 I hope you get your snow soon!

I wish you all the best with stopping smoking. My dad was always proud of the fact that he went cold turkey with cigarettes, but I’m not sure it really counted because he switched to pipes. He had a pretty neat pipe collection. I was disappointed when my mom gave away his Sherlock Holmes pipe. I would have liked to keep that.

I hope you have a wonderful week, Michelle!

  9. Yay on the Christmas decorations! I think it’s almost impossible not to get in the Christmas spirit when the tree and decs are up. I hope your temps drop a bit for you- ours did last week! Although it’s supposed to warm up here too this coming week- maybe 50’s. Is the weather crazy or what lol?

Good for you quitting smoking! I smoked and it was tough to quit, but I finally did! You can do it!!! Christmas present to yourself. 🙂

Glad you had a great Thanksgiving! Hope your week ahead is awesome.

  10. I can totally understand how stress would make you start smoking again. I’ve never smoked, but there are other things (like food) that I turn to. So, I’m happy that you have decided to quit; it sounds like you have an amazing family support system. Good luck, I’m rooting for you! Hope you have a great week! ~Aleen

    • It was quite overwhelming last year and I never should have thought I needed that. Yoga might have been a better option or meditation. I know better now and hope that anything like that happens again, I’ll make a smarter choice. I feel confident that I can do it and with my family and my blogger friends, I think I can do it.
      Thanks Aleen! 🙂

  11. Great job on the smoking front! You can do it! My mom quit cold turkey after 40+ years of smoking. She made A LOT of crafts that first year. lol So, just keep busy and if you had a pattern (my mom said the 1st cup of coffee of the day was the worst to get over since that was a coffee/cig time while reading the paper) then switch up the pattern. I have total faith that you will be smoke-free forever. *nods* Yep.

I hope you have a fantastic week, Michelle!! XOXO

    • I have replaced smoking with coffee. So now every cup I have is like heaven. I have been having a hard time sleeping because of anxiety but that will go away eventually. I remember feeling like that last time. I am up REALLY early in the morning which is nice 🙂 After 6 days, I already feel better so I am looking forward to continuing with it.

  12. Good luck staying smoke free-that can’t be easy so I wish you luck and mental strength. We don’t have Thanksgiving so our overeating will be during Christmas. We don’t celebrate it with presents or anything now but extra food especially cake is one tradition I just won’t give up!
