American Girl on Saturn (Saturn #1)
Author: Nikki Godwin
Date of Publication: August 29, 2013
Genre: contemporary YA romance
Blurb:
The summer after graduation is supposed to be that first real taste of freedom – but not for eighteen-year-old Chloe Branson. Just as that breeze of freedom is making its way into her galaxy, her secret-service-agent dad drops a meteor-sized bomb of bad news on her and her sisters. An attempt has been made on the lives of Canadian boyband, Spaceships Around Saturn, during their USA tour, and the guys have to go into hiding ASAP. The only problem? In the midst of the crisis and media frenzy, their dad volunteered to hide the guys…in their house.
Six-year-old Emery is as ecstatic as any self-proclaimed Saturnite would be, but Chloe and her seventeen-year-old sister Aralie watch their summer plans crash and burn like a falling star. The SAS guys aren’t happy with the situation, either. Bad boy Jules picks fights with Aralie about everything from his Twitter followers to his laundry, and heart-throb Benji can’t escape Emery’s fangirlisms for more than three minutes.
But after the super-cute Milo kisses Chloe during a game of hide-and-seek, she finally understands what Emery means when she talks about SAS being “out of this world.” If this is what Saturn feels like, Chloe doesn’t want to come back to Earth.

Since Michelle didn’t specify a topic and gave me the freedom to choose, I thought I’d take the less-serious route for once and write something completely different from my other guest posts. Today, I’m going to share ten unknown and behind-the-scenes secrets about American Girl On Saturn!

1)    “Music Up, Windows Down” is SAS’s new hit single in AGoS. However, it’s taken from a lyric in One Direction’s “Live While We’re Young.” It’s in the first verse. Liam sings it. Go figure, right?

2)    Chloe’s favorite band, Sebastian’s Shadow, was highly inspired by my favorite band, Hawthorne Heights. Sebastian’s Shadow was mentioned in my debut novel, Chasing Forever Down, as well.

3)    Emery’s “mistaken nudity” incident was actually based on a similar incident that happened to me, thanks to my wonderful little sister Emily.

4)    Speaking of Emily, the character of Aralie was very much based on her and who she is now. Many years ago, she was much more like Emery.

5)    Originally, when this book was plotted, Noah was the love interest. I personally fell in love with Milo, so I really struggled with him being the best friend. I swapped the two, and it worked wonders. But…

6)    I know you all love Noah. So how could I not use Noah as a love interest, right? Here’s the scoop – Noah’s personality wasn’t what it was now. He was basically exactly how Tate turned out in AGoS. I’d choose Milo over Tate any day… unless I was Darby, of course.

7)    Tank, SAS’s head bodyguard, was never meant to happen. He wasn’t planned. He was one of the organic things that “just happened” while writing. He’s also one of my favorite characters, although we see very little of him. There’ll definitely be more Tank to come, though!

8)    Godfrey only has one line of dialogue in the entire book. He says it 3 or 4 times, but he only says this one line. That was on purpose, just because I thought it’d be hilarious if it was the only thing he ever actual spoke.

9)    Chloe’s doodling/art hobby was taken from a lyric in “Lightning in a Bottle” by The Summer Set.

10)  I thought the romance would be the toughest part of writing this book – because I’m not much of a full-on-romance kind of writer – but in reality, the hardest part was not using the F-bomb! I wanted to keep this book super clean. Luckily Emery gave me a reason for the boys to watch their mouths.
