I got roped into reading this by a good friend from book club, despite being a non-horror kind of girl. And you know what? I liked it, for the most part. I really liked the dog and the relationship between the dog and his “owners.” And the switching point of views constantly wasn’t jarring like it could have been – it added to the suspense. Personally, I enjoyed the killer element way more than the Beast element… so the suspense part over the horror part basically. I hear Koontz is a classic for horror and, while it would probably take some arm-twisting to get me to read him again, I can’t say it’s because he’s a bad writer… it’s just because I don’t love being scared 🙂

A witch running from death. A warrior seeking redemption. Only one can win a battle that may very well cost them their hearts and strip them of their souls.

When Meera Brennan learns she’s a Luminary, one of the most powerful witches in existence, it rocks her already fragile world. The revelation explains the disturbing episodes that made her question her sanity, but does little to soothe the sting of discovering her life is now at risk. To save herself and keep peace within the veiled community, Meera will have to hone her powers and brave an ancient realm to destroy the slayer’s magickal source. She alone must dispel chaos and ensure the balance of good and evil for all mankind.

Banished and stripped of his guardian powers because of a witch, Ghanem Adamo, former prince of the Saharren realm, receives a chance at redemption when his estranged father reveals an immortal battle destined to alter all realms. In order to protect the innocent, regain his title and reunite with his family, Ghanem must destroy the slayers’ source of power and bring down their terrorizing leader.

Her life . . .

Or his throne . . .

When the war against the slayers force Meera and Ghanem to work together, more than magickal sparks fly. Challenged by fate, can love survive a nefarious battle that can result in only one prize?

I remember literally NOTHING about this book, y’all. When I went to pull it up on Goodreads the cover didn’t show immediately and I was like, “is it the book with the purple cover?” LOL! Then I found it, read the synopsis and yeah… still nothing. So here’s what I wrote on Goodreads…

Really dragged because so much of the story centered on the main characters keeping secrets from each other.

That’s all I wrote. And yet I gave it 3 stars… so I’ll keep that rating. But clearly, not a memorable one LOL!

  1. I figure if I remember absolutely nothing about a book that isn’t a good sign! There was a historical romance I read once from an author I really like but it took me 100 pages and going back through my reading lists to discover I’d read it before. That took it down a star for me!

    • Yeah, that’s a really bad sign. It kills me that I do think remember anything! I left the 3 stars, but I wonder if it should be 2.

    • Lol horror… HORRible. I don’t know why but that had me cracking up 🙂 I hear Koontz is a classic in horror, though this one wasnt his most horror – y. I think you might enjoy it more than me, since you like horror.

    • Yeah, I felt it was a blend of horror and suspense, which worked for me. This is one of his later I believe, as they talked about it at book club and I guess some preferred his earlier stuff.

    • I was roped into it by a book club friend 🙂 never would have done it on my own. But 3 stars, so it was beyter than I expected (for me).

  2. Watchers has a cool cover, even though I don’t read a lot of horror. And actually The Luminary has a cool cover too, especially with all that purple and the skyline.

    • Yeah these were some good covers 🙂 I don’t do horror really either, got roped into watchers by friend. For horror, it was pretty good!
