Just a Random Post ~ Recipe for Pita Chips aka Crack

Posted January 23, 2014 by Michelle in Features, Just a posted note / 4 Comments

So I thought it would be fun to just post something not book related.I came up with this that randomly features something else, either a movie review, toy review or a recipe I just have to share. This post will be random and thrown in once in a while when I have something other than books to share :)For my first Just a Random Post I want to introduce you to something that is delicious and never sticks around long enough in my house or at parties and I pretty much call it CRACK.

I was watching the Food Network one day and I forget which chef said a simple way to make pita chips is to buy pita, season it and bake in the oven. Since I wasn’t watching the TV at the time and only heard it and never wrote it down.

I decided to just make it up myself.

I never go by original recipes anyway, you can ask anyone, I use recipes as a general idea and I make it my own every time I cook something. I adjust in my head and/or add and replace as I see fit. For the most part it comes out pretty good if not (we order Pizza) then I just have to adjust the next time I make it. This recipe is so simple and it comes out FANTASTIC. You really can not make a mistake. You will not be able to eat just one. I make so much for parties that I never have any to bring home.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Here is what you will need:
• VERY cheap Pita Bread: I use Best Pita because it’s super thin, if you can find this you are in luck but if not, you just need to find a pita bread that will not hold a sandwich and is super duper thin and cheap. Thicker ones come out to hard or dough like.
• Salt
• Garlic Powder
• Parsley
• Olive Oil
Preheat over to 300
Cut the Pita chips in triangles like the picture you can get about 8 triangles from one pita. DO NOT split it apart it must look like a ducks beak.
Get a cookie sheet and line it with foil. Place Pita chips in a single row on tray.
Drizzle Olive Oil over all the Pitas
Then Sprinkle with Salt, Garlic Powder and Parsley (as little or as much as you want)
Then put them in the over for 10 minutes until they get golden brown.
When they are finished take them out and let them sit for a few minute you will hear them crackle (that’s a good thing) once you are able to grab them transfer to a bowl and ENJOY.
You wont be able to just eat one.
As you make them you might have to adjust the temp
and time they are in the oven.The hotter the oven the faster they cook
I make about 5 bags each time I make them that is about 240 pita chips.
While taking the pictures I pretty much eat half of them. You can use whole wheat also but I would put it on for less time they come out a little harder then the white pita. OMG THEY ARE DELICIOUS WARM!!!! So now if you hear me refer to CRACK you will know what I am talking about 😉
Let me know if you make them and tell you how they come out or if you have any questions 🙂
Thanks for stopping by to check out this new feature.
If you like it let me know and I might be able to set a day aside
for some more recipes and other random stuff
Have a great day!!
  1. I had to stop buying the bags of pita chips and bagel chips because they are just too yummy. Next time I think of putting out snacks for guests, I'll definitely be trying these.
