Monthly Book Report ~ September 2021 recap

Posted October 8, 2021 by Michelle in Monthly Book Report / 2 Comments

Long time! Things have been crazy around my house! After losing unemployment on September 6th, I have been scrambling to get reapplied for regular Unemployment. Once the COVID PUA was over, those that had not used UI yet could apply. Well I did and got confirmed but something is wrong and I can’t get my money. So now I have no job (actively looking) and no money. It’s been a touch stressful. So I have been focusing on finishing my on-line classes and taking other shorter classes to help me find a job. 21 years in one place with no growth really does a lot of damage if you need to find a new job. Totally wouldn’t recommend staying more than 5 years at a job that has no growth and to NEVER STOP LEARNING! I have faith things will work out but I think it is going to take some time.

Anyway, the reading and blogging sort of took a back seat while I got my shit in order. Can’t worry about stuff I have no control over and since Blogging and Reading keep me sane, I think I will be jumping back into it. I need a distraction and maybe things will fall into place. I am hoping to be back to full blog posts and reviews by the end of this week, so if you have positive vibes or some mental mojo you can send my way, I would appreciate it. I could use it! 🙂

Book I read

Crater Lake was an interesting story. It had a lot of good parts and a great book for teens looking for a little scary.

Ring Shout was good, I really liked it and had me doing a lot of research. The book also talks a lot about a movie called, The Birth of a Nation, which I had heard about and how it spread so much misinformation. I actually found the movie on Youtube and watched it at 2x the speed since it’s a silent movie. It was FILLED WITH LOTS of Misinformation. I then did research on the movie itself and am just shocked that this movie was so highly regarded and even played at the White House. The Movie spread so much hate to POC portraying them as the bad guys and the KKK as the heroes. This book got me really doing lots of fact checking and research and while the book itself his horror/urban fantasy. It was a good story and had some really awesome characters.

Books I grabbed this month

I didn’t get a lot of books but I did get a few. I felt like I deserved it 🙂

Sisters of the Snake was an owlcrate books and the other 3 are books that I have had my eye one and glad I was able to get. I plan to read Certain Dark Things with Berls since we read Mexican Gothic together from the same author.

Thanks for stopping by

Have a great day and Happy Reading!

  1. Wishing you lots of luck with the job hunt Michelle! Also, I hope your unemployment money comes through and whatever is blocking it is resolved… So frustrating to be approved but then get nothing sent!
Upskilling is always a good idea. I’ve been thinking that I need a change of job/career but I have no idea what I want to do! *sigh* Being an adult sucks sometimes, doesn’t it?

  2. Yes, that is no end of frustrating for you with the unemployment situation. I know you’ve done all you could to make it happen and to take care of your family. Cheering you on to get through your update classes and into a satisfying job to match your skills. Reading is such a great distraction and neat how you were able to go further with your investigation into the movie highlighted in the book. I’ve heard of it, but not watched it. Looks like some exciting books in your haul this month.

    Have a great October, Michelle!
