My Review

This is my first ever LGBT book. When I found out Nikki was writing one I knew I wanted to read it because she has an amazing way of writing characters. I was not disappointed when it came to the characters but I promised her I would give a honest review and I always give it that way no matter if I adore the author or not. As much as loved the characters I was having a hard time with the story.

Ridge is a rather sad kid, his father died in a plane crash recently and his mom pretty much is in a deep depression and tends to favor Ridge’s brother over him. So Ridge goes off to Basketball camp to get away for the summer what he didn’t plan on was falling in love.

That is pretty much when my problem started. I honestly thought this books was going to be about a kid who was confused about his sexuality and finds a guy that finally helps him cope with the lose of his father and find out what he really wants in a relationship but that’s not what I got. It was a straight kid who falls in love with a gay kid after meeting him over the summer. I think if the time frame was long this book would have worked better for me but over a summer I just couldn’t stand behind it.

Ridge is a bitter and grumpy characters and a bit of a downer at times, It was nice that he finally found someone that could help him be himself again after the lose of his father but my major issue with him was that he was never sexually confused and he had a girlfriend, so you never had any hint that he would like a guy and so quickly. Micah was ADORABLE, just a lovable sweetheart that was looking for some who will love him as much as he would love them but Ridge just wasn’t the guy for him in my opinion. Terrence, Zoey, Abby and Jade I loved them, Nikki can write the best characters ever and I just adored all of them.

I had such a hard time finding the words to write this review, as much as I loved the characters I just felt the jump from straight to gay just didn’t work for me. Knowing the guys I do this would not be something they would  jump into so quickly and to just change in the span of a summer is rather unbelievable. I was really having a hard time believing Ridge would be OK with kissing a guy. Knowing friends who are gay it just seems to hard to believe.

I gave Falling from the Sky by Nikki Godwin 3.5/5 stars. I love her characters and I thought this would be a great story if the Main character was maybe confused like maybe exploring the possibility of being gay but not 100% straight to gay. Would I recommend? Yes I would just because I had issues with it doesn’t mean you will too. I love Nikki and will always and forever read her books, I adore her characters but this book just didn’t work for me.
