News at Home: I hate kid germs!

My nose is stuffed up. My throat hurts. I can’t stop sneezing. GRR! I hate kid germs. Oh the joys of teaching little ones :/ I managed to not get sick last year, but I think this year I have a weaker immune system thanks to surgery so BAM! They got me. I probably should call myself lucky as I had a little girl with a case of projectile vomit this week… didn’t hit me, but it did hit the birthday boy (yes, it’s kinda hilarious that the only one to get hit was the birthday boy). Fingers crossed this little cold I have brewing doesn’t get worse!

Other than kid germs, this week was better than last. They are starting to get the hang of things. I am frustrated by the amount of talking I still have to deal with, but I think it’s time to accept that this group is just not quiet. Thankfully, they are learning the places they MUST be quiet and I only have a handful that are still needing constant reminders and practice.

I’m kind of bummed because as a school we all had to do morning duty the past two weeks – that means being there at 7:30 a.m. to oversee an area, instead of just picking our kids up at 8 a.m. I had cafeteria duty, which is one of the roughest ones frankly. Next week, instead of the whole school being on duty, we get to start rotating, so we only have duty once a month. Guess who has the first week’s rotation? Me! *sigh* duty for three weeks in a row! I won’t be stationed in the cafeteria anymore, thank goodness, but it still sucks! It makes for longer days and next week we also have a staff meeting on Wednesday that will surely go until 4:30 at least. And then Thursday we have Meet the Teacher… why? I have no idea. We just had our Porch Party right before school started and frankly I have nothing new to tell parents… but I have to be there Thursday until 7:30. Grrr! So 7:30 – 7:30. Not like I’m the girl who had major surgery a month ago…

And I’ll stop complaining now. I do have the easiest of the 3 Gen. Ed. Kinder classes, so far. *knocks on wood so hard* I earned it, after having the hardest last year. But still it’s nice πŸ™‚

Blog News

So I’ve come to realize I won’t be doing any blog work during the week. Y’all I come home so tired, asking my brain or body to do ANYTHING just won’t work. And I can’t get myself moving well enough in the morning … I wake up tired because I’m not sleeping well – still sleeping on my back and I’ve never been able to sleep well on my back. So I’m trying to use Saturday to catch up on writing posts and Sunday to catch up on visiting. Hoping it works well this week! The one thing I am doing well, is replying to comments. So yay for that!

#FitReaders Update

Last week was okay. I’ve been eating soft foods for a little while now and I thought I’d try eating lunch instead of drinking it on Tuesday – because I’m getting so tired of protein drinks. Well, teachers get 30 minutes for lunch. But that’s thirty minutes that begins when you drop your kids off for lunch. And if you want order when you return, you wait to make sure they get seated properly… so 25 minutes. Then you have to get back to the classroom… 23 minutes (if no one stops you in the hallway). And you have work to do while you eat. And if you don’t want mass chaos when it’s time to leave, you really need to get there before they finish cleaning up… 20 minutes at best. Ya’ll that’s never been enough time really… especially if you dare to take a bathroom break, which you must because it’s our last chance until 3:50 p.m.! Well, it’s really not enough post surgery. I ate as slow as I could and only ate like half of what I was supposed to eat. And while I was walking back to pick up the kids I felt lots of pressure in my chest, like I was stopped up. When we got back to the classroom, I had to immediately grab a trash can and vomit πŸ™ So I guess I’ll be sticking to protein drinks for lunch!

Other than that things have been fine. I’m seriously bored with my food options and am forcing myself to eat because I know I need to get in my protein, but I’d rather skip. Especially because I’m also THIRSTY but I can’t drink for 30 minutes before or after eating. I have to ask myself, will I eat or drink this hour? I hate it. Can’t wait to get passed this phase…. which will be a while.

Good news? I’m seem to be maintaining that average of 1 pound a day. It fluctuates, between as little as .4 lbs a day and as much as 3 lbs – but it always seems to average out to that 1 pound. So as I write this it’s been 31 days since surgery and I’ve lost 31 pounds. So all that other shit I just complained about? Worth it. πŸ™‚

I’m starting to look at workout options – I’m still pretty tired from work so I think I’ll wait a couple weeks to really start getting into it. But I want to really incorporate some toning as I’m really worried about lose skin. I know I’ll have it, but I’d like to have as little as possible!

#TTT – Ten Books I Loved During The First Year I Started My Blog

its-monday-what-are-you-reading

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

I just finished…

Written in RedI finished Written in Red and it was AMAZING! I devoured it over the three day weekend – every time you turned around you saw me reading it. I need to get my hands on the next book – I want to buy it because this is definitely a keeper series πŸ™‚

I also finished Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Just as good as I remembered πŸ™‚

Reading Now…

I’m currently devouring Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows. This is the book in the series I’ve read the least number of times (with every new release I reread the previous books, so the earlier ones have been read bunches!) and there’s more that I don’t remember in it that in the others. It’s ALMOST like reading it the first time – especially since this is my first time with the Stephen Fry audio.

I also started reading a book for book club, which is Tuesday. A Quick Bite…. I’m trying to finish it by Tuesday, but if I don’t, it may become a DNF. It’s kinda dumb, though I am curious to see if it gets better. I thought it would be funny, maybe it gets funny…

Oh and I’m still working on my teaching read Love and Logic. It’s taking longer because I read in the morning and frankly I’ve only been doing a subheading a day lately.

Up Next…

I may be starting my TBR List read. Or I may get the book after Visions in Red. Haven’t decided.

For Audio – I know I will be going to the newest White Trash Zombie book πŸ™‚

  1. Yep… we had “teen germs” in our house this week. First the 6th grader had a 3-day cold, then me, then my 8th grader. But we all seem to be better now.

Glad you are doing better with your recovery and especially managing your long days at work. When will your body be ready for more solid “regular” meals? Or will you always be doing mostly protein shakes (I’m not overly familiar with the recovery from surgery, so I’m just wondering!)

Isn’t The Others amazing? It seriously just gets better!!

    • Yes! Love The Others, I need to buy the rest of the books πŸ™‚ glad to hear your feeling better – germs are no fun… Of all ages!!

So I’m supposed to do soft foods until I’m 45 days post surgery. But part of me wonders if I’ll ever be able to eat lunch at work. Protein will always be a priority, so I’ll always probably need to drink a protein drink or something similar. I honestly don’t know exactly, as I’m still kinda taking this all one day at a time. It’s so overwhelming! But I’ll keep y’all posted, for sure πŸ™‚

Hope you are having a great week!

  2. I”m glad you had a good week despite trying to eat and kid germs. I hope things are going better for you this week. I’ve been MIA because of vacation and recovering from vacation (it always seems like there is so much you have to do after a vacation that it is almost not worth it, but it so is. I just feel like I lost my week of relaxation because of playing catch up). Oh well, I’ll stop whining. Have a great week.

    • Good for you!!! πŸ™‚ we all need a good vacation from time to time. Yeah, I know what you mean about recovery but it is worth it. Having a good enough week, though I’m tired. It’s almost Friday though!!! Have a great week!

  3. The kid germs got me, too! I went to the nurse on Tuesday to have my throat checked. No strep, but it was RAW. On Thursday morning, I had the strangest episode of blurry vision after starting the day. The nurse came and checked on me again and almost sent me to a doctor…which would mean someone would have to drive me. I took an Excedrin and was fine within 3 hours, still a little unsettled. I had a sinus infection with pressure in just the right, or rather, wrong, places. I understand the duty and lunch situations entirely. Still in middle school, we are required to walk our students and seat them in the cafeteria, during our 30-minute “duty free” lunch as mandated by the state that is never followed. Then, they release students 5 minutes before our lunch is actually over. So we have even less than 20 minutes. People are appalled when they learn the true intricacies of teaching today. Sorry you’re stuck with liquids still. Maybe try again in two more weeks?

    • Man, they sure did get you! I’m hoping the vitamin c I took this weekend will be enough to keep me from getting too bad. I hope you’re feeling better! Yeah, teacher lunches are a joke. It’s hardly a break. I would like to eat but I’ve have a feeling I’ll be on liquids at lunch for a while. Between time and the amount of protein I need, I’m not sure how else I’ll manage. It’s okay though, I can deal πŸ™‚ Have a great week!!

  4. Kids germs suck! But I’ve gotten sick from the adults in my office too lol. It’s crazy and I hope you feel better. Working long days is hard so it’s understandable you’ll cut back to blogging on the weekends. I hope you continue to heal from your surgery. Have a great week!

  5. Hells to the YEAH!!! She finished Written in Red!!!!! WOOT!!!! Hang in there on the food – You’re a rock star!!!! Doing the small food thing AND Kindergarten. WOW!!! I don’t blame you for being pooped when you get home. I hope you have supplements… right?? Are you feeling good? Just worrying about ya!!! Okay, enough worrying… I still think you’re the bravest for doing the surgery.. πŸ™‚

    Go slay some kindergarteners!!!!

    • Thanks Kristin πŸ™‚ yeah, I’m on supplements galore, doing my best to take care of myself. I’m feeling pretty well, tired but otherwise good. And it’s hard to say if thats post-op tired or 2nd week of Kinder tired lol!

Yes, loved Written in Red, need more πŸ™‚ soon! Have a great week!

  6. Ugh, sorry you got sick so soon into the school year. And it sounds like trying to get a solid (or semi-solid) lunch down in 20 min. is not going to be an option for now. I’ll be so happy for you when you’re past this point!

So, so glad you enjoyed Written in Red!! I really stepped outside of my comfort zone with that one and was sooo glad I did. I inhaled the whole series in a couple months time. Now I’m counting down till next March for the next release. But I’m seriously considering reading (well, listening) to the whole series again. πŸ™‚

Hope you have a great week, Berls!

    • Yeah, 20 min lunch just isn’t going to work. But I’m reconciled to it πŸ™‚

OMG written in red was so good, I just need to buy the other books and then I’ll inhale them too, I’m sure. Trying to pace a little bit so I’m not dying waiting for the next book.

      Have a great week!

  7. Sorry you got the kid ick! I have my fingers crossed my kids don’t bring any home. They tend to like to share that stuff. I am not in the mood to get any type of Ick!

31 lbs is great and in a year it will be totally worth it all. I know it’s rough but I know you are a strong woman and will get through it!

Tell the birthday boy, I know how it feels. Just be happy he didn’t throw up too.

Have a great week, Berls! Happy Reading! ox

    • LMAO! YES, I was SO happy he didn’t throw up as well πŸ™‚

Fingers crossed the kids don’t bring it home – I know I try to teach sharing, but not with germs please!

Thanks, it feels good to FINALLY have something working. It’s worth it, after years of dieting and exercise not paying off.

{{Hugs}} have a great week! Xoxo

  8. I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed Written in Red. I have that coming up on my list and have been wondering if it’s really for me. So sorry to hear you’re not feeling well. I imagine not sleeping well is not helping as rest is the only thing that will pull me through a bug. Fun on the projectile vomiting! The Tornado had that one time when he was really little and I still have nightmares about it. Terrifying! That’s too bad on the duty roster but that’s great that you’ll have a few weeks off from it once you get this week done. I think our school rotates except for the teachers who stay with after school care. Have a great week and get some rest!

    • I hope you like Written In Red when you get to it. It’s unique and very compelling. Yeah, the sleep thing has been rough – I managed to fall asleep in my side last night and I slept in until noon! Can’t remember the last time I did that! I think I was finally catching up on some sleep πŸ™‚ LMAO projectile vomit can be scary. It’s a testimony to how much you deal with that sort of thing as a Kinder teacher that it barely phased me.

      Have a great week!

    • Thanks Lark πŸ™‚ I’m anxious to get my energy back, but for now, taking it easy seems to be the order of the day! Have a great week!!

  9. Wow sounds busy! And I’m sorry I had to laugh at projectile vomit- I know it’s wasn’t funny but just the way you wrote that. Hope you’re feeling better soon!

I love the cover of that new White Trash Zombie book!!

Have a great week Berls and feel better. πŸ™‚

    • Lol! Oh I totally laughed after the moment was over. Kinder is anything but boring, that’s for sure!

The covers for that series are so great – very much looking forward to reading it πŸ™‚

      Have a great week!
