News at Home: COVID Quarantine Week 30
This week was exhausting, though not particularly different from other weeks. Work was busy as usual, and I did find myself working overtime a few days though. And Dante has been napping poorly – fussing when he goes down and waking up after only 1 hour (a couple days less than an hour). I leave him, hoping he’ll settle like he used to do, but he cries harder and harder until I have to go get him because he’s just going to make himself sick (not to mention break my heart). I don’t know what’s up, but it’s stressing me out on two fronts: 1 – he needs sleep. It’s important for his health and development. 2 – I need my mommy time! If he wakes up after just 1 hour of sleep, my work day isn’t even over yet. Meaning, I get no break. When he was sleeping 2-3 hours, I would finish work about 1 hour before he woke up and that gave me time to do dishes and get something to eat and just relax. I’m praying we figure out what’s up and he gets better naps this week.
This week was also emotionally exhausting. I do weekly therapy sessions and out of the blue, I ended up talking about my good friend that died very suddenly 6 years ago this Christmas. I miss her a lot even though I’ve obviously moved forward and healed as much as you can from loss of loved ones. But I felt her loss a lot this week and that was also exhausting. Between the two exhaustion causes, I skipped workouts and walks to nap when my husband came home this week several days.
I’ve also been watching The Handmaid’s Tale on Hulu. It’s been recommended to me a few times, but I finally gave it a go. Man it pisses me off! I’m just starting season 2. What kills me is I can see how they got there. We aren’t so far away from that. It’s so important that we never get complacent and accept any kind of hatred and evil… and on that note, have you made your plans to vote? See what I did there? 😛
I watched a bit f the VP debate this week, because I figured it would at least be civil. It didn’t change my mind in any way (which I didn’t expect it would) and I think both Harris and Pence did a good job representing everything we already knew them to be. Early voting begins Tuesday here, I will be voting next Sunday. Get it done as early as you can and while I would normally just encourage voting, this time around I can’t do that. For the sake of all that is good and decent, don’t vote for Trump. There’s more on your ballot and I strongly encourage voting blue this year, which I rarely do. I usually am all over the ballot. But these past 4 years have me dreaming of an all blue government for a little while. Maybe we could actually progress as a country. I will admit that a line in The Handmaid’s Tale really resonates here – “Better is never better for everybody” and I do get that.
We have a play date today that I’m so looking forward to and my friend has a bunch of hand-me-down’s for Dante that he really needs. He’s outgrowing his clothes so fast! This means I probably will be very slow visiting Sunday posts – I’ll try to get to them by the end of the week! Have a great week.
