News at Home: Eventful Week!
So my husband FINALLY took some paternity leave this week and it’s been great. First of all, he’s been off since Saturday and he doesn’t go back to work until Tuesday. That’s 10 days home with us. The best part? I think he finally understands why I say I need a break – thatย it’s not needing away from Dante and it has nothing to do with how much I love him. Because he’s suddenly 1 – needing to get out of the house some and 2 – being a lot more understanding of me wanting to do things. I guess he just had to experience it (which he hasn’t fully, since I’ve been home too, actually).
So last Sunday I went to an author event and it was so nice. I got to see most my book club friends that I haven’t seen since August and chatted books with everyone. I met some new people and enjoyed tea with author Suzanne Ferrell and her daughter, learning a little bit about her insights to her books, her characters and what’s coming next. There also was a very moving speech and, as always at this event, I teared up a bit. This is a charity event for the Richardson Literacy Center where they teach English to adults who don’t speak English. There’s some scholarships and just a general appreciation for all that we are blessed to have.
This week I also had my 6 week doctor’s appointment and I’m cleared to workout again! Yay! So excited and I got right to it on Friday. I subscribed to Beach Body on Demand, since I don’t see going to the gym 5 to 6 times a week forย 2 hours really fitting my schedule.
My sister-in-law’s family got a new house this week and on Tuesday we went out to see it. It’s a great place for them and – ready to be jealous? – there’s a library!! They don’t have the books for it, though they said they plan to buy some. I would fill it easily. We stayed for dinner and had a good time.
Friday evening around 7:15 I was sitting at the computer, editing my resume while baby wearing a sleeping Dante when there was a knock at the door. Kiko answered it and I heard my stepson and his mom… I was like, “what the?” and by stepson says, “the babysitters have arrived!” Long story short, they – my husband, stepson, and his mom – all planned as a surprise for me that they would watch Dante while me and Kiko went out. Y’all I could have cried. Best surprise ever. We only stayed out for an hour to get dinner but it was amazing. And she said they’d do it anytime (and longer!) so we’re thinking maybe next month we’ll go out for dinner and a movie ๐ It was great because I really could relax knowing they could be trusted to take good care of Dante. Oh AND Dante slept in his own room for the first time Friday night. Guess what? He slept 7.5 hours! Woo-hoo!!! happy dance let’s see if he keeps it up.
Then Saturday we had some errands we needed to run, so we want to the store and then we went to my stepson’s house for some pasole and just to hang out. Needless to say, it was the conclusion to a really great week.
Today we plan to go back to my sister-in law’s house for a house warming dinner. And I need to go to the store – I’m thinking Ross – because I have an interview Monday (yay!) and with my baby weight I don’t have a complete outfit to wear for the interview. Super nervous about the interview because I want the job so bad. Cross those fingers for me, I’ll need it!

Sounds like a great week! I’m in awe that you have such a good relationship with your step-son’s mum! Good luck with the interview and with starting the Read A Series in a Month challenge! (I still haven’t started! oops!)
Thanks Nicci! Yeah, it’s really special the way we’ve managed to create a very close, non-traditional family. I feel very blessed that we’ve avoided all the step-parenting drama!
I hope your week is off to a good start!
I am so glad your husband was able to take some time off to help with the baby. It sounds like it was good for all of you. What a nice surprise that you and Kiko were able to go out just the two of you. I hope you have a wonderful week!
It was so nice having him home and now that he’s back to work, I feel like he’s being a lot more understanding of my day, so it really paid off in that way too. Hope you’re having a great week!
Oh! I’m so happy for you! That surprise it amazing and so wonderful. I’m so glad you and Kiko got out. Hopefully you’ll continue to have some time alone away from the house. Good luck on the job interview!
Thanks Jen! The job interview went so well, I really think I got it .

Berls, your week sounds so good! I’m glad the hubby has been with you and got to slightly experience what it’s like for you. I’m also glad you got to go to the book club meeting! And that is beyond nice from your stepson and his mom. I’m glad you guys are friendly like that and they are willing to help you out and volunteer.
I wasn’t going to join the “can you read a series”, but I started and finished The Cruel Prince, and tomorrow I’ll start The Wicked King!
Yay! Isn’t binge reading a series so fun?! I hope you enjoy the rest of the series.
It really was a great week and yea, super fortunate that we’ve been able to have such a great relationship. In a lot of ways, his ex has been my go-to person for help with what to do with Dante actually. And she loves him so much. As she says, “he’s half of my Franky!” She’s good people ๐
Hope you’re having a great week!
Yay for babysitters (especially when it’s a nice surprise)! It’s always good to get a break. And your author event sounds wonderful too.
Hope you have a great weekend Berls!!!!
Thank you Greg! It really was such a great surprise – especially babysitters I knew I could trust. And the author event was super fun; it was nice to get out just me by myself for a few hours.
Hope you’re having a great week!
