News at Home: Oops, I did it again…

Yeah, I know. I disappeared for a week without warning. Again. Sorry. What can I say? This school year is already so brutal in terms of demands on my time, I’m barely keeping up. Which is crazy, because I SHOULD be having my best year ever. I have the best group of kids. They are genuinely sweet and try so hard to be nice to each other. I love the hell out of them and seriously enjoy my time teaching them. If I didn’t have such crap administration, I feel like the stress would be almost zero.

But let’s talk about that crap administration for a minute. We have to do self-evaluations at the start of the school year. And it uses the exact same format as your end of year evaluations. So I copied over the scores I received at the end of last year. For each category you can get distinguished, accomplished proficient or needs improvement. I was rated as distinguished or accomplished in every category last year. So that’s how I rated myself. Makes sense, right?

Apparently not. I had to sit down with my principal on Wednesday and he said he sees I’ve marked myself as all distinguished (which is already not true) and to him that reinforces the perception that I’m stuck up, unapproachable, think I have nothing to learn and all around have a horrible attitude. Yes, people, this is the gem I work for. He is such a misogynist jerk and has such a problem with women who are not begging for his constant approval and counsel. I’m sorry I’m a good teacher and I know it. That doesn’t mean I think I have nothing to learn, but why in the world should I rate myself lower? I have trouble believing he would rate himself lower than he was just evaluated in May!

Anyway that brought me down for a bit, but I pulled it together and had a great Thursday and Friday with my kids. I’ve decided I refuse to let him have that kind of power over me. I’m going to be a bobble head this year — nod and smile — and just focus on my kids. And get the hell out. My team and I decided that to try and get him to leave us the hell alone we’ll be all smiles and positivity at school and then go out for drinks once a week to roast him. You gotta do what you gotta do to get through, right?

Meanwhile, I’m looking into getting my library science certification – I should be able to do it in just a year thanks to already having my masters – to help my transition out of the school without needing his recommendation. I know a bunch of librarians in my district and they told me, “get certified, we’ll get you hired.” It’s just a step along the way to my school which I will make happen. Soon hopefully. We’re working on it.

On the plus side, I have Jury Duty tomorrow. I wasn’t happy about it when it first came in the mail, because a day away from kids always sucks. But when the school secretary called me asking about my scheduled absence because it was going to be a kindergarten performance planning day, I became so thankful for it. See a performance planning day is a day that I would be away from my kids anyway, but instead of jury duty, I’d be spending all day in a room with my principal. WORST DAY EVER. So instead I’ve got jury duty. Not the most fun, but perfect timing! I’ve never had jury duty, so who knows, I might actually enjoy it too!

Blog News

I did some catching up yesterday and I have posts scheduled for this week ๐Ÿ™‚ Hoping I’ll be able to get back to my routine of visiting in the mornings this week.

#FitReaders Update

I hit my goal of 10 pounds loss for September on Friday! Yay! Things are going really well. I love that I’m not as dependent on the scale, just jumping on periodically and seeing how I’m doing. I like to make sure I haven’t gained basically. My husband doesn’t want me to lose anymore weight, but I want to lose another 30-40 pounds. I think he’ll agree once I’ve lost it that I was right. And that will still put me technically overweight, but I don’t think I’d be healthy at all at my technical healthy weight/BMI.

Had another NSV this week – went to Victoria Secret for the first time in my life… because why would I go there when nothing would fit before? And bought lingerie in a size Medium! Whoa! First of all, I’ve never bought lingerie because nothing ever looked good to me and second I still can’t believe I can wear such small sizes now! Major victory ๐Ÿ™‚

Also did my first turbo kick class this week since my surgery and it was amazing! Turbo kick is my favorite format, but it’s very high impact so it took a bit for me to work back up to it. So glad I could do it and looking forward to doing more this week!

  1. It’s not often you see people get excited for jury duty, but I can understand wanting to miss out on that day at work. I’m glad you’re enjoying your kids. I’ve gotten frustrated when I was doing reviews for my employees (back when I had people working underneath me), and I wasn’t allowed to give them the highest rating in any category (because there is always room for improvement). That is so dumb. Yes, there is always room for improvement, but allow people to give kudos where it is due. I hope you’re having a great week.

  2. Sorry about the principle. Ughh at least you can deal with it. I have a horrible problem with telling people to go F* themselves and have left jobs because of a a**hole for a boss. I hope this week is much better for you.

Hey sweetie. Sounds like overall it was still a great week, even with the principal situation. It really does such to have such a terrible supervisor. But great job on getting back to your gym classes and on the weight loss. As for how much more to lose… I think as long as you are working with your doctor, you’ll find the right number for you and your hubs! ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. The library science certificate sounds interesting. I’ve tossed around the idea of getting a masters in library science but the closest program is about 2 hours away and the online program is a bit lacking. Maybe when the Tornado is older. Anyway, I hope you share all the details of the journey! I think your team’s survival strategy sounds perfect. Hope jury duty isn’t too awful. I haven’t had it but my husband and dad both did and they said it was okay though a bit boring. Hope you’re having a great week!

  5. Yay for you! I love your perspectives and am so happy for you losing weight and going to VS. I did that when I lost about 8 years ago. I hope Jury Duty was just sitting around ( so you could read or listen to an audiobook) and not getting selected. Have a great week because you are great. Anne – Books of My Heart

  6. Ugh evaluations are such a waste of time. I know in our building, once you know which of the admins will evaluate this year, you know what you need to ‘work on’. None of it is actually based on our performance but the perception of our performance and the specific things that admin cares about. Its a dog and pony show.
Hopefully you are able to enjoy your students this year!

  7. Sucks he is such as asshole. I have one of those also.
I am excited you are going to your library science certificate. That would be a dream for me but it will never happen. My life would be complete if I could be a librarian by day and a graphic designer at night. Sigh, that would be amazing. lol

I hate Jury Duty but I hope you don’t get a case and it’s an easy one. ๐Ÿ™‚

Have a wonderful Week, my friend! Happy Reading! oxox Miss You!
PS I emailed you back…..PSS I also bought the book you told me to read! ๐Ÿ™‚
