News at Home
Sunday – Wednesday
The first part of this week went by in a blur. It wasn’t that I was busy, I was just tired. And I don’t really have a great reason for most the week. I did chores on Sunday and Monday (while working… but as usual, that was slow). Brandee @ (un)conventional Bookworms was in town – her MIL lives here – so I got to meet up with her for lunch on Monday which was so nice. Last time I saw her was February 2020, ya know, before the shit hit the fan.
Tuesday Dante had his therapy as usual and it’s continuing to go well. I did some laundry and did some work on the blog – I’ve had a couple organizational tasks I’ve been itching to take care of for a while that I FINALLY got to. Someone **ahem Michelle** used to have a really bad habit of not categorizing her blog posts. So we had over 1000 posts that were in the category “uncategorized” and I finally got them all sorted into the correct categories. Not something you can see from the front end, but it will have an impact on how our related posts pull and SEO. Then we also had a BAZILLION (that’s the technical term) genre categories and a lot of them were overlapping. For example, we had “YA” and “Young Adult” or “Sci-Fi” and “Science Fiction.” Plus we had some that just didn’t make sense as genres, they were really more like tags. So I cleaned that up. I still want to clean up some of our other review tags (Publisher and Source specifically) and create a searchable index for reviews, but that’s a task for another week.
Last night (Tuesday night), Dante decided that he didn’t want to sleep unless he was in our arms. What a great decision 🙁 It took us until after 10 to get him to bed. Then he woke up around 2 a.m. and Kiko got up with him and managed to get him back to sleep. Then at 3:30/4 he was up again. I tried to put him back down, rocking him and all that jazz, but the SECOND I lay him back down, he hopped up and started crying. I was too tired and just brought him to bed with us. Which totally effed up my morning routine and I left the house about 20 minutes late today. Which meant Kiko wasn’t helping me, he had to go to work already. And since today was an office day for me, I had my work bag, my lunch, Dante’s school bag and Dante that I’m trying to wrangle out the door. I have my hands full as I’m trying to lock the door and Dante takes off running for the stairs (we live on the 2nd floor). I had to peel off after him because he started going down them and he is not ready to go down the full flight without holding my hand – he trips frequently and holding my hand keeps him from falling. So lift/drag (he was not wanting to leave the stairs) him back to the door where I’ve left the keys in the lock. After I get the door locked, I’m like, “Ok let’s go” and give him my hand. Now he is stationed at the door and doesn’t want to leave the door. I walk away hoping he’ll follow. No dice. He’s camped out at the door. So I have to find a way to carry him safely down the stairs, with my hands full. And of course I’m wearing heels.
But we made it and I dropped him off at daycare about 25 minutes later than usual. At work things were slow – as usual – and I was able to get a lot of my school work done. I sent myself the wrong file though, so hopefully I can find it when I go to the office tomorrow. Then I went to my brother’s and hung out for a little before doing a quick Target pickup (drive up order) and getting Dante. We had a nice dinner and then Kiko took Dante for a walk hoping to tire him out. We’re about to bath time and bedtime. PRAYING he’ll do better tonight.
Thursday – Saturday
So he did NOT do better Wednesday night. We had decided we’d let him cry it out for 15 minutes before we went and got him, because he was just getting too attached to being held and seemed unable to put himself to sleep all of a sudden. Well, 3 minutes in I’m watching the baby cam and he’s standing on the side of his crib screaming. SCREAMING. Kiko went onto the balcony because he couldn’t take it. And then all of a sudden I see a leg go over the side of his crib. I ran in and basically caught him as he was about to swing himself out of the crib. So crying it out was not an option and now we have a bigger problem. Dante can climb out of his crib. Shit.
Kiko lay on the floor with Dante for about 30 minutes until he fell asleep and left him there until he went to bed around midnight, and then put him in his crib for the rest of the night. Thankfully Dante slept all night. But we decided that it was time to setup his toddler bed. I can make his bedroom 100% safe if he gets up and roams around. I cannot make climbing out of his crib safe. The crib we have for him – thanks to the Guncles who bought it before he was born – came with a bassinet for when he was super little that comes off and converts into a toddler bed using the same mattress as the crib did. So it was super easy to setup. His room was already 95% safe, just a few minor tweaks for unsupervised time in there that we had to make during the day Thursday. Kiko changed the door knob so we can lock him at night – God forbid he figure out how to open his door and go roaming through the apartment.
So Thursday night was the first night in the toddler bed and it went… GREAT! OMG he just lay down and went to sleep. Watching him, I’m realizing that MAYBE this was the problem. He was getting to big for his crib. He’s 2 years old and 35″ tall, I think he needed more space.
In other Thursday news – I had an interview today. It’s for a position that doesn’t even exist yet, but someone I used to work with recommended me and I thought it was worth at least interviewing. Well now I have a real conundrum. I think I would LOVE the position. It would be a definite promotion and pay increase. And I’m like 99% they are going to build the job around the plan to offer it to me. Problem is, it’s in a different direction than my current career goals and would be pretty demanding, meaning I probably wouldn’t have the time to pursue those goals, at least not as quickly as I am now. I really want to get into development/coding. And I’ve invested some real time and energy into doing it. And the career trajectory is better in development. BUT it may not happen. I may not get my opportunity. This opportunity is real, right now. So I’ve very torn and every time I think I know what I’m going to do, I get another thought that changes my mind.
Friday was a work from home day and very slow. I had a couple work projects to take care of and I spent most the rest of the day doing some coding homework. We also bought a new camera for Dante’s room – one that will let us move it from the monitor and view his whole room (the one we had before was great, but stationary). So I set that up Friday. And we also got a new bench for the entry way, with storage and shoe rack underneath, that I had to put together. It’s great, but it was a beast to put together.
Saturday was a LAZY day. Dante let me sleep until almost 8:30 (he’s doing GREAT in his toddler bed), we did breakfast and went for a walk with his new tricycle (it has a handle on the back that I can push him, he doesn’t know how to work the pedals yet), we came back, played, did lunch and he took a nap (another WIN for the toddler bed!) and I finally watched Cruella (so good!!) and then dinner and just relaxing for the evening. I need to do a lot tomorrow to make up for my lazy day, but it was worth it.

Challenge update
This week I finished:
I’m participating in 4 reading challenges this year. Here’s how I’m doing:
Backlist Reader hosted by Lark @ Bookwyrms Hoard: 34 books
Library Love hosted by Books of My Heart & Angel’s Guilty Pleasures: 8 books
New Release hosted by (un)Conventional Bookworms: 10 books
COYER (Summer) hosted by Because Reading: 28
Added to My Shelf
I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?
Oh I want to see Brandee! And you! And everyone. But I also don’t want to travel that much. We always had a twin bed in my daughter’s room and I slept in there sometimes when she was still in the crib to make feeding easier. It became her bed when she was about 2. Life’s challenges and decisions just keep coming. I hope you have a great week!

Hey Berls! that’s cool that you got to see Brandee, and good luck with the job thing too. Those kinds of decisions can be so tough. I hope it works out whichever way it goes.
Hope you had a great weekend! 🙂
That crib to toddler bed transition is terrifying! I’m glad he adjusted so well and that his therapy is continuing to go so well. Have a great week!
Ya know, I never add categories, tags or anything to my blog posts. Maybe I should start.
Yea for the toddler bed! Sounds like he was more than ready. I hope he continues to sleep well. I was on the fence about Cruella, but you are the second person in 2 days that said it was good. I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks! I hope your week ahead is a good one.
I’m so glad the toddler bed is working out so well! Good luck with the job decision!
Oooh Cruella! I’m glad you liked it. I still need to get around to seeing it. But hopefully sometime soon!
