Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Which book turned into a movie is your favorite?
Oh this is easy! The A&E Version of Pride and Prejudice! Yes, it’s also one of my all time favorite books, but Colin Firth will always be my image of Darcy and Jennifer Ehle my version of Lizzy. They are just so incredibly faithful to the book and the casting is superb. I think most people who are true fans of the book would agree with me on this one.
Some great runner ups:
- Anne of Green Gables and Anne of Avonlea starring Megan Fellows. Another one that has lots of versions out there but this is the truest to the books, has incredible casting and well, I grew up wanting to BE Anne/Megan Fellows.
- Sense and Sensibility starring Kate Winslet, Emma Thompson, Alan Rickman and Hugh Grant. Do you see that cast list? Need I say more?
I do feel like the classics have better movies, in general, than some of the modern books turned movie. I would say the Hunger Games Trilogy is also quite fantastic – but I do mean the films much more than the books. The books started strong and got weak… the movies started good and got better.
Sense and S, all the feels!
And yes I love Anne!
I am a sucker for the LOTR and Harry Potter of course. 🙂
I don’t read then watch many adaptations. It’s usually one or the other lol
Karen @For What It’s Worth
Yes!!! Loved both those Jane Austen adaptions. I’m a fan of Kate Beckinsale as Emma and then later as Lady Susan in Love and Friendship.
I love David Suchet as Agatha Christie’s Poirot and Jeremy Brett as Sherlock Holmes the best.
I’ve actually never watched Sense & Sensibility which kind of boggles my mind because I adore the entire cast. My most recent book to screen adaptation is Heartstopper. I am NOT a TV watcher but I got Netflix for the sole purpose of watching season 1 of Heartstopper. Best decision ever. LOL The casting is perfection and it’s such a feel-good show. Which I need right now. 🙂
While I’ve seen both P&P and S&S many years ago (and enjoyed both), I’ve never read the source material, therefore, I can’t count them! LOL. This was a hard one for me because I drew a complete blank on books to movies I’ve read and seen. I picked Harry Potter. I did like the Maze Runner movie and book, but the follow up movies didn’t stick with the books, so I didn’t like it as much. Oh, I should have picked Jurassic Park! LOL. That was such a fun movie and great book!
