Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
If you could have any job in the world, what would it be and why?
Famous author. Not that I crave fame, but I do crave a good living and saying just “author” doesn’t guarantee the good living. But famous author? Yeah I think JK Rowling, Nora Roberts, Stephen King… I think they’re all doing just fine financially. I love to write. And the idea of spending my days writing, editing, connecting with readers (of MY BOOKS) would be an absolute dream. I know, like any job, there are some sucky aspects. Like people who hate your work and trash talk about you. The social media element I would definitely want to hire someone else to handle because I kind of hate social media… but again, we’re saying Famous Author, so I’m assuming we get to skip to that part. And then working from home is also great – as I know from the past couple years – but the ability to set my own hours would be even more fantastic. I also like to imagine Famous Author because I’m assuming that would my love of writing translated into being good enough at it for people to enjoy my work LOL. Coincidentally, I do have a short story that was published and the reviews I stumbled upon (wasn’t looking for them) were all really positive, so I like to think that means I am actually a decent writer – beyond the opinions of my friends and family. So yeah, that’s my dream job.
If I had a magic wand… But alas, I don’t. I do hope that you get to write more and able to publish more of your work someday! Good luck.
My dream job would be retirement too. But if we were actually talking jobs, I would love to ride horses for a living (that is what I went to college for, originally). But it is so much work for so little financial reward. Spending a lot of time working nights and weekends and lots of traveling to shows. I’m glad to just have it as a hobby. Zookeeper or wildlife rehabilitator would be fun too.
LOL, you have it all figured out, don’t you? Even the social media part 😉. What would you write about?
LOL I’ve been dreaming of this since I was a little girl. The short story I published is a YA dystopian. I also have written and not published an Urban Fantasy – 1 book fully written, another half written. And then I’ve plotted and made notes on a fantasy thriller and also an autobiography of sorts. And that’s just the stuff that’s on paper and started — lots more in my head! But I definitely lean into fantasy.
Oh yes, famous must be in it because just author means having another job, too. 🙂
I wouldn’t mind being a travel photographer or owner of a quirky small town bookshop or even an iterate campground host. 🙂
LOL exactly!!
LOL I love the “irate campground host” but I cannot imagine you being irate! Travel photographer would be fun if I were younger. Now travel for work sounds exhausting!
I wanted to be an author a long time ago. I actually wrote a book but it was awful. lol Back when I was going through my Horror phase. It was so bad so I never published it.
I think I would want to be a space photographer. Those people with the big, powerful telescopes that they can attach a camera to and take these outstanding pictures of space and other planets. If I could get paid to do that, that would be my dream job.
Oh wow, that sounds like a super cool job I would have never even thought of. Do you know a lot about Astronomy? I’ve always been bewildered by it, but also in awe.
I’d say librarian but I think I’d prefer being a travel writer or bookstore owner. I recognize the downfalls of those professions though.
Yeah there truly is no perfect job. Travel writer would be cool, except I wouldn’t want to have to travel for work. Just have the ability too if I wanted to.
My dream job would be to be a librarian!!
I think being with books all day could be pretty awesome!
And you should do it! You are always pushing me to follow my dream! Well you need to do the same. You need to just write a little bit a day. I think you would do amazing because you have a skill for writing.
DO IT!!! I’ll make the cover and promo material.
<3 Thanks Michelle. I have a million too many things on my plate right now. But once I clear some of these things, absolutely planning on it! IDK if the famous will happen though ;)
