Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Time for a pet update! Tell us about yours.
We are a one pet household still – not really space for more in this apartment. Not to mention, having a toddler and lots of pets seems like more than I could handle. But we love our Buffy, who is now 10 years old! She’s a rescue we got after my first year in grad school. She was a companion for us when we were living away from our family and friends in St. Louis and she’s definitely part of the family. I was a little nervous how she would do with Dante while I was pregnant because Buffy definitely takes her time warming up to new people. I even read a book, How to tell your dog you’re pregnant that was actually pretty helpful in preparing her.
But I honestly don’t think we had anything to worry about – she loves Dante and puts up with him really well, especially for an old dog. She’s protective of him and lets him “pet” her, which could be anything from petting to hitting (softly, he just doesn’t always get the motion right) to pulling on her coat or tail. We always remind him to be gentle but he’s 3 so yeah… but she’s incredibly tolerant. And during COVID when I was trying to work from home while watching Dante, Buffy “trained” him to play fetch with her. And they still play together all the time. She’s so gentle with him and he’s full of giggles. Oh and Dante helps take care of Buffy too! Every morning it’s his job to let her out of her crate, which he does without even having to be reminded 99% of the time. And if mommy is moving slow, he opens up the doggy door to for her and once he even tried to fill her water bowl using his water jug (which requires you to drink from the straw for water to come out so it didn’t work, but good try Dante!).
She’s a terrier-chihuahua mix, which is a breed that tends to live into their teens. Thank goodness because losing her is going to be very hard for all of us. She’s definitely starting to show signs of her age though 🙁
Buffy looks so sweet and that’s too funny she trained Dante to play fetch! We are a 1 dog 1 cat family but I have puppy fever something fierce so I’m not sure how long we will only have 1 dog.
LOL, the Dante/Buffy story belongs in a book. You’re very lucky to have her – she sounds like an intelligent and affectionate dog. And I love how you made her part of your baby announcement 😂.
“I even read a book, How to tell your dog you’re pregnant”
I didn’t know such books existed LOL.
Aww Buffy is too cute.
My Falcor is a Chihuahua/Jack Russell Terrier mix too. He looks more Jack Russell than Chihuahua though.
Before I got Falcor I had rats and before that it was hamsters.
That’s great that Buffy is so good with Dante and that it helps teach him some responsibility.
I didn’t know you had a dog!

What a soulful face! Neat how she’s so good with Dante.
So adorable!
Buffy is adorable and has the best name ever. I love that she’s so gentle with your son. I have a 6 y/o french bulldog names Gigi who is the sweetest ever. I adopted her when she was almost 4. She’s my baby basically. I love her so much. I also have 2 colorful and noisy budgies. 🙂
