#Review ~ The Women in the Walls by Amy Lukavics

I grabbed this book at BEA not realizing what kind of read this was until I got back to the hotel. The cover is super creepy and the synopsis was exactly what I wanted in a creepy story. This book was WEIRD! Like really WEIRD. Honestly I almost DNFd it in the middle not because of the story but because one of the characters and a little of the main character was getting on my nerves so much it was frustrating.

Lucy Acosta has experienced lose. Losing her mom when she was young and growing up in a creepy mansion with a father who doesn’t really seem to care about her, it’s a good thing her Aunt and Cousin come to live with her…they are family. When people start dying and her aunt goes missing something strange is going on at the Acosta house. When the whispering in the walls starts and it’s up to Lucy to find out what is going on because something has marking her and she needs to confront it before it’s to late.

I don’t even know where to start with this book. Weird was not even the word some stuff in the book kind of annoyed me and I was not a fan at all of Lucy’s cousin Margaret. She is almost the reason I DNFd this book. However things start happening and a few moments of “WOW, I wasn’t expecting that” and this book turned into something I am glad I stuck around for. I didn ‘t find this book to be scary but it was very weird. It wasn’t until about 35% into the book that I started to really get engrossed in the story. I also wasn’t sure how I felt about Lucy but I thought the character grow up a lot compared to the start of the book. It has some weird twists and a lot of moments that I had to ask myself…wait, what? The end of this book was…WTF. (That’s all I will give you about that)

This book really wasn’t bad at all, it actually turned out to be something I really enjoyed and I am very glad I didn’t DNF the book. It is very weird, with interesting characters and a few morbid moments. Lots of twists and turns and a lot of stuff I didn’t see coming. I would totally recommend just because I want to see what you think. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Thanks for stopping by to check out my review.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!

  1. I picked up this book at BEA as well, Michelle, so I’m glad to see you stuck it out and it ended up not being too bad. ๐Ÿ˜‰ I’ll have to pull it off the shelf sooner than later.

  2. I love the cover and the blurb itself sounds intriguing but I’m not sure about all the weirdness! Especially with annoying characters thrown in. This sounds like the kind of book that would work well for me in audio but I’m not sure would really grab me in print. However, I’m definitely intrigued enough that if I saw this at the library I don’t think I could resist it!

  3. Sometimes it’s worth the struggle to get through to a certain point when you enjoy the outcome. Sometimes I can’t make it but I do try. Since I know things going in I will make sure to ride it out to the end. ๐Ÿ™‚

  4. Until I read your review, I had forgotten that I also picked this one up at BEA. I’m going to dig it out and read it because you’ve intrigued me.

  5. This does sound like a weird read, not sure if I would enjoy it. But that’s good to hear you didn’t DNF’d it and was glad you read it eventually. It really is difficult to enjoy a book when you don’t like the characters, even if it is a side character. Those twists and turns do sound well done! Great review!
