Blogging, NY and BEA ~ WIR & TSP

Posted March 6, 2016 by Michelle in The Sunday Post, WIReadview / 24 Comments

WIR&TSPWeek in READ-view is a post I have posted on Sundays telling you what I have been up to this week and what I read or am reading. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the awesome Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, post a recap of the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

On the Blog & Real Life:

I took a mental health day on Monday to catch my breath and I did a lot of catching up. I was actually very proud of what I was able to do and seem to be a week ahead. This week coming up I have a post almost every day but next week will be lighter so I can catch up even more. I am feeling a lot more bloggy and am very happy about it. I think I needed the day off to refresh and be alone. On Thursday I woke up with a sore throat and have my fingers crossed it’s nothing major. I am feeling better today so maybe resting on Friday helped.

Took Julia to the American Girl store in NYC for Lunch on Saturday, it was really cute but the food was awful. You get to eat lunch with your doll, they give you a seat that attaches to the table to hold your doll. Julia and MaryEllen (her doll) had fun, so that was what really mattered.

We also got a chance to stop at the Nintendo Store and it was SOOOOOO cool. I want to go back with my son. It’s not very big but would be something fun to see with him. I think he would like it. I loved it πŸ™‚ Got myself a new mug, I am a proud mug addict so I grabbed a Mario Mug now I need to find a Legend of Zelda Mug and I think I will be forever happy, but I will still buy mugs.

Everything else seems to be settling down pretty good and I was able to make some visits to blogs this week. I plan to try to get to more this coming week. My new blogging schedule I think is going to work for me and I am feeling awesome about it. This week I still plan to do a little more than I normally will but that is just to get caught up. If it works how I think I should be a good two weeks ahead after this week and week long bloggiesta is coming up at the end of the month so that will really get me in a good blogging mood…always does! πŸ™‚

I am super excited that we only have 66 days left until BEA Chicago. My husband and I are going but only I will be attending the expo since he only wanted to go for one day and this year they don’t have the option, only Book Con, and I didn’t want to go to that. I have been looking around to find stuff for him to do while I am exploring the books. I will also be getting the chance to meet a bunch of blogging friends and I can’t wait to meet them in person…finally! I am so looking forward to this trip but I will miss the kids terribly.

  1. What a wonderful day you and your daughter had! I would have so loved to take my daughter to the AG store, but when she was the perfect age there wasn’t one around here. By the time one opened close enough to us, she was too old to really get into the store experience, even though she still loved her dolls. (Heck, I love the dolls – I have one of my own, which I pretend is for using as a model for knitting and sewing, but which is really because I would have loved an AG girl when I was young, if they’d been around back then.)

And wow, you’re going to BEA! I hope you have a fantastic time . πŸ™‚

  2. Your day with your daughter looks like a lot of fun (even though the food wasn’t good). We are mug collectors too and brought home 6 from our last trip to Disneyland lol. I would love to go to BEA one of these days. I’m hoping to go to the RT Convention in Las Vegas for one day (I couldn’t take the entire week off). If I go I’m bringing my husband so we can have a mini-vacation. I hope you aren’t getting sick and have a great week!

  3. Thanks for reminding me how close BEA is, I am starting to get excited and nervous at the same time cause I don’t do a lot of traveling solo!!! πŸ™ πŸ™‚ You got good reading in! πŸ™‚ Hope you enjoy your new Lois book..I know you was really excited. πŸ™‚

    Have a great week!

  5. I took a mental health day about a month ago. I wasn’t feeling very well, very nauseous and I just couldn’t drag myself out of bed and make the hour-long drive back home. It was so refreshing and much needed. We need them every once in a while just because. I also need my alone time – that’s when I’m able to crank out the most work because I’m focused and there’s nothing to distract me. I hope this new blogging schedule works out the way you hope!

  6. Love the pics of your NYC visit. I am originally from NY and there is just so much to do there. Sometimes I miss the hustle and bustle and activity level. I’ve heard the American Girls is fun for the little ones but is aimed at taking a large chunk out of Mama’s wallet at the same time. Well, as long as she was happy.

I collected (sometimes still do) mugs and that Mario would be awesome for us. We are an unapologetic family of geeks/gamers– console and PC– and my kids have grown up with Mario, Peach, Zelda etc. My eldest started with the Socrates console system, and my older brother had Pong. We go way back…. My son’s older systems have issues, but he uses PS4 and XBox One now, as does my elder daughter, son-in-law, and grandkids. Hubs and I still do PC gaming. It keeps the mind young and engaged, lol, at our age.

New follower here, though I’ve been lurking for a couple of months, as we have mutual bloggy friends πŸ™‚
Enjoy BEA planning– I know you all will, and we who can’t make it will love hearing the news from it.

    • My daughter loves it, I am not even sure why she’s only 8 and it’s all she talks about. AG wasn’t that expensive…it was a lot for the clothes but not as bad a I thought it would be. She was very good and her doll got her ears pierced.

The Nintendo store has been something i wanted to visit for a while, I am a huge gamer, more on my ipad these days but I wants a PS4. My kids are also big gamers, totally my fault, but it keeps them interested in something and if its what they like I wont stop them.

Thanks for stopping by! BEA is so much fun I can’t wait to go and it will be fun to finally meet some of my blogging friends.

  7. I am glad to hear you got a lot of work done on monday and feeling a bit more bloggy, I hope that means your blogging slump is going away.

Your trip to NYC sounds fun even though the food at the American girl store was bad, at least it was fun. Your Mario mug looks awesome and I hope you can find a Zelda one soon too. I enjoyed both games when I was younger, I played Maria a lot and even beat the boss of one of the games. Although i was very bad at Zelda games due to my limited knowledge of English at that time. I remember I had to follow someone “”without being seen” and had no clue what that meant and eventually had to look it up on the internet how to get past that part.

And that’s great you got some blog visiting done, I had some extra time yesterday and managed to visit some blogs besides those for comments back and it was great.

I am so sad I can’t attend BEA, I would love to meet you one day. It must be so fun to meet some blogging buddies in real life.

Oh and that link statue is so awesome, i was admiring it on facebook yesterday. I agree their expressions re very well done. I hope you’ll have a great week!

    • Julia had fun so that is what really mattered. I am glad she did. It’s nice to spend the day with her.
The mug was so cute and I had a hard time picking one. I could have bought a bunch. I am going to start looking around for Zelda mugs and stuff, I am sure someone has them just have to find it.

LOL I remember that part in Zelda and yes that can be frustrating, I am surprised they haven’t made that in all different languages since it is an older game and widely popular.

I wish you could attend also, it would be great to meet you in person!

Isn’t that awesome! Some people were staring at me while I was taking the picture it might have been more because I was muttering to myself about how cool it was and the expressions on their faces. LOL

  8. Only 66 days, you say? I can hardly wait, Michelle, I’m so excited to meet you in person, and hang out and have fun and chat about books and blogging.
I hope your husband will find some fun things to do while we’re at the convention, so that he won’t be bored and want to keep you for himself in the evenings πŸ˜‰

    • Now its 65 days πŸ™‚ I am so excited, I hope I don’t disappoint you all. I can be very chatty.
My husband will find stuff to do, knowing him we will sleep a lot. I still have time to see if I can get him to come to the expo with me but it’s not looking good. I hope they have an afternoon ball game, he would totally go to that.

  9. I think we all need a mental health day now and then. They really can do wonders. I am taking a couple days off this coming week–one of which will be just for me. I can’t wait. I would love to visit an American Girl store. I’ve also heard they can be quite expensive–so maybe I should be glad I don’t live near one. Haha I hope you have a great week!

    • It should be required as time off work πŸ˜‰ Those are the best kind of days, just for me days, I do that every once in a while. I have fridays off with no kids but this last few months they are either half day or no school. And during the summer I have them all day so soon I will no longer be alone. So me days happen a lot more often during the school year πŸ™‚

It was a little expensive but not as bad as I thought it would be. We got her doll a few outfits which was nice but I was expecting to spend a lot more and I think I might have spent more at the nintendo store πŸ™‚

  10. It’s a shame I was originally taking my hubby but then Kristin asked me to be her roomy and the more I thought about it the more I realized he would be bored and I would feel guilty wanting to hang out with all my bloggy friends. Sometimes a mental health day is exactly what you need to recharge. I am glad yours was such a good one. Bummer about the food at the American Girl Museum. Hope you aren’t getting a cold and that the week ahead is a good one πŸ™‚

    • I was suppose to room with Kim and Stormi but my husband was nervous about me traveling alone so he asked to come with me. I also think it will be nice to get away with him since we do have fun together. I know he will find stuff to do and at least sleep most of the day since he works a lot it will be nice to catch up.

Mental Health days should be included in work days off. I think everyone needs them once in a while.

I know it’s a store and my daughter loved the food so I guess as an adult you can tell the different more. She did have a really good time and that to me is what really mattered. πŸ™‚

I am starting to think it’s allergies and a touch of sinus. This time of year always kicks my butt πŸ™‚

  11. Mugs are the best even if I never use half the ones I get! Love that Mario one, and Zelda… that would be awesome. I want a Nintendo store! BEA sounds fun and I thought about going since Chicago is a lot closer to me than NYC- I’ll have to look into it.

Your new books look good. Love that cover of Click Here to start. And that picture of the week- very cool.

    • Me too! I just love collecting them, I switch between mugs I use, so Mario will be it for a while until I can get another mug or my husband steals it. πŸ™‚

You should! I think you would love going, so much to see and awesome books to grab. Great place to connect.

I have to say that is the reason I requested Click Here to Start, the cover is really cute and I loved the sound of it. It sounds like a fun read!

  12. Ha Michelle, I love that you balanced out the American Girl store with the Nintendo store!!1

I’m hoping to go to some events (author, reading, book) this year so can relate to your BEA excitement.

    • It made all the girly stuff so much better, I am more of a gamer girl. However so is my daughter and she loved the store too.

I can’t wait, I have been a few times to NY’s BEA but never really meet anyone so this will be so much fun to experience it with all my friends instead of by myself. πŸ™‚

  13. My son would be in total heaven at the Nintendo store! It looks awesome. I’m having a bit of a jealous moment because of the American Girl store. It looks like so much fun though too bad to food was awful. Have a great week!

    • My son didn’t come with us so he was totally jealous πŸ™‚ I want to take him back in the summer. It would be nice to walk and look around. The AG Store was really cute and my daughter loved it. We even got her dolls ear’s pierced. πŸ™‚
