Hamsters and Winter is Coming…again ~ WIR & TSP

Posted April 10, 2016 by Michelle in The Sunday Post / 33 Comments

WIR&TSPWeek in READ-view is a post I have posted on Sundays telling you what I have been up to this week and what I read or am reading. The Sunday Post is a meme sponsored by the awesome Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news, post a recap of the past week, showcase books and things we have received and share news about what is coming up for the week on our blog.

On the Blog & Real Life:

I am please to welcome our new family members.

They are both 3 months old and Gumball is Ryan’s, it’s a boy and of course Julia’s is Biscuit, it’s a girl. They are doing ok so far. They are aΒ little nervous and the kids have been given strictΒ instructions they are not to be touched or handled for at least week or until I say so. Since they are babies it takes them a little time to get used to people. Of course as soon as they get into their cages they are already planning their escape. I have everything locked up and will keep a very close eye on them so they know both me and the kids. I think this will be an excellent learning experience for both the kids, especially Ryan. He has been looking for something that he can take care of and I think for their first pet this is perfect. I had a few when I was younger and it’s exciting to share this experience with them. I am sure I will have stories, lets hope they are a lot calmer than the hermit crab stories…we still have one of those.

I needed a genre switch this week and was looking for something more adult. I was enjoying Anna dressed in blood but it is going a little slow, I am going to finish it on the 24 hour read-a-thon because I do want to finish it. I picked two more adult books and the second one I read this week was just over the top. I am not sure I was suppose to be laughing but it was so ridiculous that I couldn’t help but laugh. The book is Priest and totally taboo and I will probably go to hell. At one point I was rooting for God to strike him down with some lightening because the MC has serious issues, he was like night and day, it was mind blowing. I usually don’t write reviews for “erotica” books like this but it’s to hard not to tell you about it. I have a LOT to say. I will now be going back to MG/YA for a bit since after that book I had my fill of adult for now.

So Winter decided to show up this week and I sort of wish it would go away. April showers are suppose to be may flowers however it’s now April snow….WTF, it’s like the winter that wont go away!!!

  1. Welcome to Biscuit and Gumball! That’s wonderful you got new pets, Michelle! I’m sorry winter won’t seem to leave you but if it makes you feel any better, we got 4 inches of snow last night! πŸ˜‰ I’d love to hear what you have to say about Priest…you obviously weren’t struck by lightning. *haha* But I understand the need for genre switching. πŸ˜‰ Hopefully you’re loving Click Here to Start. Ooh, and I love your review journal format!! I do write my reviews in a journal but they’re blank journals…hmm, you’re giving me ideas! πŸ˜€ Have a great week!

  2. I almost ended up with a hamster this weekend! I have no pets that I can cuddle because I’m allergic to cats and dogs. I’m not allergic to guinea pigs but my husband is. I’m doomed to never have anything furry to cuddle. πŸ™ Books are my comfort.

It snowed here for a few minutes on Friday but no accumulation. The cold and wind are more annoying than anything.

I LOVE your review notebook. Did you just use Excel and print enough and have them bound? That is awesome. πŸ™‚ I would love to do something like that.

    • That is a bummer πŸ™ but hamsters are very cuddly when they get to know you and are fantastic pets πŸ™‚

I am a graphic designer so I used indesign to create the pages and printed them out at work. The guy that coils our jobs coiled it for me πŸ™‚ I might make it a little more fancy when this book is done.

  3. Big welcome to Gumball and Biscuit! Very cute… though I’m not fond of guinea pigs and hamsters and the like, so…. They’re pretty to look at but I’m far too lazy to look after a pet! πŸ™‚

I LOVE your review notebook. What great idea – it looks so professional!

    • LOL they are fun to have, out house is filled with animals and the kids love it. It doesn’t hurt that I am a complete and total animal lover. πŸ™‚ Even my husband who isn’t fond of them either finds them to be adorable!

Thank you, I printed them at work and had the guy that works in our production area put it together for me. It came out a lot nice than I thought. I might do the next one a little more fancy with a cover and all πŸ™‚

  4. We had hamsters when my girls were younger and they found a way to escape their cage. We were away for the day and when we came home they were out of their cage. They are escape artists lol. But they are adorable and hope the kids have fun with them.

I love your notebook! Have you thought of selling these? I would buy one!! That’s exactly what I include in my reviews and your notebook makes it easier to organize your thoughts.

I hope you have a great week and the weather warms up for you soon!

    • I have but I am not sure how I would go about making them or just selling the pages for people to download. I am still working on that πŸ™‚

One of mine escaped also and we found it under a bunch of blankets sleeping. It came tumbling out when I lifted the blanket it was rather cute but I almost had a heart attack πŸ™‚

  5. The hamsters are so cute and I like their names! I hope things will go well. I hope Ryan and Julia will enjoy caring for the hamsters. And I remember that from when we first got our rats that they were a bit nervous and it took them so time to get sued to the new environment and the new people. I am sure the hamster will feel more comfortable after a week or so.

And now I kinda hope you’ll write a review for the Priest. I’ve been reading a lot of adult books lately, but mostly cozies. I do enjoy a good erotica book once in a while and am still making my way trough the calendar girl series that I am lending from berls. It has a good story and some hot scenes, I always like when an erotic book has a good story as well.

We didn’t get any snow at all here this winter and it’s getting warmer weather here already. I also got Wrecked this week think, but I usually don’t list freebies in my hauls. Enjoy your new books and have a great week!

    • I read Ryan what you wrote and he said thank you. It helps to hear it from other people that it takes time. He is having a hard time being patient πŸ™‚ I do think this will be a good experience for him.

If you are a religious person skip this book. I was like WHAT! must have laughed a lot more than was needed and it wasn’t a funny book lol. It was like the MC had bipolar or something that made him like night and day.

I wish it would get warmer, I am pretty much done with winter and it’s spring. I only list freebies but not books I get from Kindle Unlimited. I am hoping to read it since I did a blitz for it this week and the publicist told me it was free.

  6. What adorable hamsters! I’m sure the kids will get a lot of enjoyment out of them.

Sorry that the adult book you picked was so over the top! It doesn’t sound like quite my thing, either. I like the look of your review journal, though. It’s nice that you were able to design it yourself.

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ I hope so too, at the moment the kids just think they sleep a lot πŸ™‚

No it was WAY over the top. Even I was uncomfortable until it just started getting completely ridiculous and I had to laugh. It was just so wrong.

It was fun to design and I am so glad I found something that works since I set it up in my review format!

  7. I love your review notebook! That makes my notebook loving soul very happy. It’s never a good sign when you’re hoping for God to strike a character down. Periodically I want one to drown and there’s been a few that I thought needed to have been told no as children but I’m not sure I’ve come across a MC that is that annoying! I probably should stop whining about our “cold” weather when you have snow! So not cool! Good luck with the hamsters and have a great week!

  8. Hamsters!!! I love the name of Ryan’s!! You know it!! He should have named it “Chris Morris”!!!!!! NOW that would have been funny!!!!! Maybe when it’s old and decrepit and you’re stuck with it while Ryan’s off at college you can rename it (bwahahahaha!!!)

BTW – I’ve got more snow to send your way *insert evil cackle here*

  9. Oh the hamsters are cute!! We had them as kids all the time. They always got out and it was a disaster though!! I agree the weather is nuts and I wish it would just get a wee bit warmer. LOVE that reviewing notebook. Very cool. Have a great week!

  10. I hope things with your hamsters goes well. I remember having them as a child and they were fun. Sounds like you got a good dose of Adult in your reading there…lol.

    Happy reading,

    • I think they will, Ryan’s hamster has stopped crying and we got to look at him this morning. They are fun pets and I think Ryan’s just needs time hopefully this will teach him to be a little more patient. Both hamsters sort of remind me of the kids personalities.

Yes I had my fill, I will probably go back again but after Priest I think I am good for a bit πŸ™‚

  11. Oh I have review notebook envy!!!!! Gah!!! Priest is super dirty. I have it on my kindle but haven’t been brave enough to read it (I read romance books, but I am way too much of a prude for the more erotica side of things!
It snowed here yesterday (SW Ohio). I am so over this crazy weather. Pick a season already!

  12. Now I need a review notebook!!! It looks so perfect! I miss writing.
Arrow of the Mist sounds like something I’d enjoy. I hope you like it! I’ll keep an eye out for a review!

Stacy Renee recently posted: The Sunday Post #14
    • I would write notes on paper and lose the paper, I think this might help keep things organized and I made sure to set it up like my review format which is making me love it more πŸ™‚

I have had Arrow of the mist for a really long time, like it’s the first book I got on Netgalley. So I can’t wait to read it πŸ™‚

  13. I hope Gumball and Biscuit will get used to their new owners quickly, so they can come out of the cage to be cuddled! Congrats! I’m glad you finally found the perfect cage and the new pets have arrived.
I can’t wait to read your review of Priest… It sounds like it will be entertaining.
I love your review notebook! I have made one, too – but it’s really in book format, with my blog colors and button on the front πŸ˜€
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading, Michelle! Only a bit over four weeks until we meet πŸ˜€

    • It will take some time but they should warm up eventually, Biscuit is more social but Gumball will come around he just needs a little more patients which will be good for Ryan to learn.
The cage finding drove me nuts I am also glad I found one, it still isn’t up to specs but it will have to do since most of the ones that are, are only sold in Europe and they don’t sell to the US.

OMG Priest, it was uncomfortably entertaining and I totally laughed when I probably shouldn’t have.

I didn’t do the cover it’s just a yellow card stock paper. I might do something different next time but this is a test run πŸ™‚

  14. Cute names- hope the gerbil experience goes well. πŸ™‚ You still have one of the crabs? lol about your adult read. Yeah some books are just out there. πŸ™‚

The weather has been crappy here too, cold and rain/ snow (not a lot, but enough) so yeah… pretty disappointing week.

Click Here to Start (I just like that cover) and Arrow of the Mist both look good.
