This feature is for short reviews, reviews of books in a series where it might feel repetitive, or (as Michelle suggested) books I was too lazy to write a “real” review for. Today’s books is a combination of the first and last – I wrote brief reviews after finishing the books and I don’t feel that they need a lot more explanation. Plus, I was too lazy 🙂

Harmony Black is much more than your average FBI special agent. In addition to being a practicing witch, she’s also an operative for Vigilant Lock, an off-the-books program created to battle occult threats—by any means necessary. Despite her dedication to fighting the monsters threatening society, Harmony has become deeply conflicted about her job. Her last investigation resulted in a pile of dead bodies, and she suspects the wrong people are being punished for it.

While on a much-needed vacation, Harmony gets pulled back into action. This time, though, she’s gone from solo work to being part of a team. Their target: the Bogeyman, a vicious and elusive figure…and the creature that destroyed Harmony’s childhood.

Surrounded by quirky, fascinating characters as dedicated to one another as they are to their new partner, Harmony must learn to trust her team—and a new romantic interest—on a dangerous and deadly mission that conjures up memories she’d much rather forget.

I really liked the characters and especially the team dynamic. Jessi is probably my favorite character – I love that she has this inner evil to control. The story wasn’t too easy or too happy – romance wasn’t forced neither was victory. I really like the demon hierarchy and conspiracies. Definitely plan to continue… eventually. This is one I probably never would have picked up if it weren’t for book club because the cover doesn’t appeal to me at all!

LADY SOPHIE'S SOCIETY SPLASH

The youngest of the infamous Talbot sisters scandalized society at the Liverpool Summer Soiree, striking her sister’s notoriously philandering husband and landing him backside-first in a goldfish pond. And we thought Sophie was the quiet one…

When she finds herself the target of very public aristocratic scorn, Sophie Talbot does what she must to escape the city and its judgment—she flees on the back of a carriage, vowing never to return to London…or to society. But the carriage isn’t saving her from ruin. It’s filled with it.

ROYAL ROGUE'S REIGN OF RAVISHMENT!

The Marquess of Eversley was espied descending a rose trellis—escaping an irate Earl and his once-future countess. No lady is safe from Eversley’s Engagement Ending Escapades!

Kingscote, the Marquess of Eversley, has never met a woman he couldn’t charm, a quality that results in a reputation far worse than the truth, a furious summons home, and a long, boring trip to the Scottish border. When King discovers stowaway Sophie, however, the trip becomes anything but boring.

WAR? OR MORE?

He thinks she’s trying to trick him into marriage. She wouldn’t have him if he were the last man on earth. But carriages bring close quarters, dark secrets, and unbearable temptation, and suddenly opposites are altogether too attractive…

I loved the characters and felt it had good narration. I’m really looking forward to the sisters’ stories (and the doctor’s!) I’m a sucker for women disguising themselves (however poorly) as men, so that was a plus.

Just a Few Random Fun ReadsSnow Falling on Bluegrass by Molly Harper

Goodreads
three-half-stars

Parks and Recreation meets The Blue Collar Comedy Tour in this third book in Molly Harper's Bluegrass series of contemporary romances: A love triangle of colleagues heats up the winter lodge where they get snowed in for a week. Kentucky Tourism Commission employee and executive assistant extraordinaire Kelsey is known around the office for having everything under control. So it's not surprising that she and her boss, Sadie, have everything planned to the second for the office winter retreat. But there are things even Kelsey can't micromanage. An unprecedented snowstorm smothers half of Kentucky and knocks out the power, closes the roads, and generally shuts down the state. Luckily, the lodge has working fireplaces and enough food to keep the staff from turning on each other like something out of The Shining.Kelsey wouldn't mind being stuck inside if it wasn't for the tension with her not-so-secret crush, Charlie, the office's statistician. But handsome Ranger Luke, the lodge's only employee on hand, is there to take Kelsey’s mind off her discomfort. Even though this weekend is supposed to be a planning session for KTC, Kelsey can’t help her mind from wandering and finds herself conflicted over Luke and Charlie. Someone's love will keep her warm, but whose will it be?©2014 Molly Harper White (P)2014 Audible Inc.

Predictably fun and I always enjoy the Ronconi /Harper duo. Even though I really prefer Harper’s PNR books, this was a fun conclusion to this series. Nothing like being trapped together during a snow storm to bring out all kinds of hilarity and sexiness 🙂

3.5 stars pretty good

    • Her PNR is better, but I do enjoy the contemporary as well. I think you’d like Harmony Black… I don’t know if it’s in audio, but I have it on kindle if you ever want to borrow 🙂
