Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Do you reread? Are you ever tempted to change your ratings when you do?
Absolutely! I didn’t used to do much rereading – it was basically just my annual reread of Pride & Prejudice. But in recent years I’ve done more and more rereading. Some have been because I wanted to continue a series, but it’s been a while and I need a reminder. But especially in 2020, rereads became about comfort. I picked up old favorites to revisit favorite places and characters. Their was comfort and safety in the familiar.
As for changing ratings, I don’t think my view really changes. When I’m rereading it’s generally books I loved and still love. So no, I can’t think of a time that I’ve changed my rating.
I think 2020 changed quite a few things for us bloggers (well, maybe not for me, but in general). Some found themselves reading less because they were too stressed…then there was the opposite reaction, as in, reading more/rereading for comfort like you did. I’m glad that your favourites stood the test of time!
I reread a decent amount and like you it’s usually comfort reading though I’m always in the middle of an Agatha Christie reread! I have changed the rating but not very often because usually my opinion is the same.
I very rarely reread and that’s something I want to change because it’s almost always a great experience. Sometimes my rating might change a bit but usually I just love the experience of revisiting favorite characters. 🙂
I very rarely reread unless it is for a reason (i.e.bookclub)There are way too many books that I want to read, to reread one. I do reread children’s books because the kids request it.
Valid point about the re-read being of favorite books. That’s very true and so often my rating won’t be different the second time around.
I don’t reread a lot but when I do I am like you and it’s favorite books and so my rating on them don’t really change. 🙂 Right now I really want to reread Discovery of Witches and I just read that trilogy all the way through last summer…lol.
I haven’t re-read much, but with audios, that is changing and I love revisiting books I read some time ago and getting a fresh slant with the audio facet. Mostly, my rating stays the same, but sometimes it’s higher because I love what the audio narrator brings to the table, too.
I have read Pride and Prejudice a few times and it’s always fun to reread.
I wasn’t able to get much books in 2020 so I reread a lot as well. Rereading books is really a comfort & safety in the familiar.
Have a lovely day.
There are so many great books coming out that I don’t find myself doing any rereads. Sometimes I will relisten to a favorite book on audio. I have not found myself wanting to change any ratings, but you never know!
I reread too. Not a lot. I also love giving second chances once in a while.
I’ve definitely changed my ratings after rereading before! I normally reread with audiobooks, so sometimes that affects my rating. Or it’s a series that I read a million years ago and now feel differently about, sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.
