The Couple and The Book…
Used with Permission from Introvertedbookworm
That’s right the series that I’m going to be talking about today is The Lunar Chronicles. I can see many people having many different couples that they love within this series. I currently have only read 291 pages of Winter, so I haven’t got the chance to fully know that books couple. My favorite couple is one I have watched grow for a long time. It is a couple I have gotten attached to throughout this series. If you haven’t guessed yet my favorite couple is Cinder and Kai.
I have to say initially my attraction to this couple was the mental picture I had in my mind of Kai. One thing I love about books is how vividly your mind can imagine characters. The way that Marissa Meyer described Kai I had the mental picture in my mind of how attractive he was. Over that first book I got to watch Kai turn into the kind of prince that a girl would want. I also got to watch Cinder grow into the cyborg/girl that any guy would be happy with. Cinder is brave, strong, fearless, and determined. Those four assets have been shown continually throughout the series as she discovers life changing secrets and is determined to find a way to defeat Queen Levana.
Unlike a normal fairy tale Cinder and Kai do not peacefully get to live happily ever after. Their relationship is complicated and there are many obstacles in their way. You could say the whole series has been against their relationship. But as the famous song from the Lion King 2 goes Love Will Find a Way. I’m looking forward to finishing Winter to know if Kai and Cinder will be able to be together.
The Lunar Chronicles is probably one of my most recommended series. This is the series that has gotten me obsessed with Fairy tale Retellings, but even if you aren’t a fairy tale fan these books are so much more complicated that just the fairy tales they are based on. As we get to the later books in the series the world takes on its own form and you barely can tell the fairy tale element is there, but it is.
Here’s a Summary of the First Book in the series, Cinder.
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl. Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

I haven’t read this series yet but my younger daughter loves it and wants me to read it. And now I’m really eager to meet Cinder and Kai! 😉 Thanks, Rachael, for sharing your favorite book couple and their books.
I’m yet to read this series but Cinder is on my 2016 Reading Assignment list…which i’m now really looking forward to!
I’ve only read the prequel and the first in this series, Rachael, and I’m happy you’re still enjoying it! Great pick 🙂
I enjoyed this series until Cress, that was the only one I didn’t like, I plan to read Winter but I am not sure how quickly I will read it. Fairytales are one of my favorite types of books, I loved your posts! Thanks for doing it for me!
I am not a fan of fairytale retellings, but this series is on my to-read list. It sounds really good and I lvoe how you describe Cinder and Kai, they sound like a great couple. It must be fun to see their relationship develop even though every book features a new couple it also shows other point of views too, right?
I read this when it first came out and then never read the rest. I do own them all now and hope to re-read Cinder and move on to the others later this year. I always liked Cinder and Kai, but am interested to learn more about Scarlet and Wolf as Little Red Riding Hood is my favorite fairy tale. Great post!
I have still not finished this series but I do like Cinder and Kai. 🙂
I still have not finished the series either, but I’m close. This is one of my favorite series.
This series is on my TBR. That’s the easy part. On the other hand, finding time to read it…:D
This is one of the series I have absolutely loved and kept up with throughout the series.
