During the month of October, I asked a few of my friends, what their favorite Monster is (some are not so scary) and what book(s) they read that they loved that associated with the Monster they picked. The answers are great and the recommendation are even better! Enjoy!
FRANKENSTEIN!
Hey everyone!
I’m so excited to be here to talk about my monster. I have always had a soft spot for The Creature from Frankenstein. While he is definitely a monster, he is intelligent and experiences a wide range of emotions. He just wants someone to be his companion, and Frankenstein failed in doing that for his creation. I mean if you’re going to create this being, how can you not also create a mate, or bestie, for him??? Sorry y’all, I’m getting off course. Anyway, I’ve loved this book for as long as I can remember, and reread it often. I wanted to share with you a book that also includes Frankenstein’s creation in some form, or at least the story.
First up we have Man Made Boy by Jon Skovron. This is a pretty light read, but deals with that same feeling of finding where you fit in. It follows Boy, the son of Frankenstein’s monster and the Bride. He struggles with staying in the group of monsters that live in hiding when he wants to go out, see the world, and live among humans. While trying to find where he belongs, he goes on a journey. While on this journey he meets some people that show him that being a monster isn’t so bad. And he has to figure if maybe his home of monsters is enough for him. I also enjoyed the friendships in the book. I loved this story, and it was a pretty great retelling for the YA genre.

I like Frankenstein as well! I have not heard of Man Made Boy, sounds interesting. 🙂
This sounds like a great read, Katrina! I like how Boy goes on a journey, both literally and figuratively, to find self-acceptance. That’s a struggle we all deal with. Thanks for sharing your monster and book! 🙂
