This feature is for short reviews, reviews of books in a series where it might feel repetitive, or (as Michelle suggested) books I was too lazy to write a “real” review for. Today’s books are part 1 and part 2 of Bella Jewel’s Amore.

I received this book for free from Publisher in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

This book may be unsuitable for people under 17 years of age due to its use of sexual content, drug and alcohol use, and/or violence.

“It is not love that defines us, Julietta. It is love that destroys us.”

I’m just a normal girl. Or so you would think. I’ve never thought of myself as anything different. Until I met him. He doesn’t think I’m normal. He thinks I’m special. Special enough to be in his life. Special enough to enter his world. Special enough for his bed. Rafael Lencioni. Dangerous. Beautiful. Terrifying. My story is the one that’s never told. I’m not the daughter. I’m not the wife. I’m not a sister or a mother. I'm not his enemy and I'm not his friend. I’m not who you think I am. So for me to fit into their world, I have to do something I never wanted in my life. Something I would have frowned upon until I met him. I have to change who I am. I have to shut down my heart. I have to accept my place. My body belongs to him. My heart isn’t permitted to. Those are his rules. But rules were made to be broken…right?

So good! I love the combination of light-erotica and the mystery/suspense that comes from the extra element of the Italian mafia element. Mostly this was a romance – the mystery/suspense is definitely light – a steamy, secret, romance. I don’t love that Rafael was married. It’s explained away that this is the Italian Mafia, of which he is head, and so he is EXPECTED to take a mistress, his marriage is not a love match, and his wife knows and expects him to have a mistress. But still, I don’t EXPECT any married man to cheat. So that’s why I took away a star. Otherwise I really enjoyed it. And while the mystery/suspense is light, it did have me anxious and eager to get to part 2.

The narration was really good – so good, in fact, it wasn’t until halfway through that I made the realization that I had two narrators! Obviously, if I ‘d been paying more attention to the narration I would have noticed, but the two voices worked so well together it wasn’t jarring and made for a really great reading experience. Noelle Bridges and Eric London work really well together and are definitely narrators I would listen to again. I think this was my first listen with them too!

Run. He told me to run. So I ran. It turns out just because you run from something, doesn't mean it can't find you. He's coming for me. He wants what I hold closest. He wants to lie, manipulate, and use me. He wants me to betray him. Rafael. Leader of the Italian Mafia. Love of my life. Father of my child. He's going to make me do the unthinkable. There is no way out. I'm trapped and about to make the biggest mistake of my life. I'm running full throttle towards an oncoming train, and there isn't a single thing I can do to stop it. I'm going to become what I was most afraid of-a monster. Contains mature themes.

This was an immediate pick up for me, as you CAN NOT leave Amore Pt 1 without going straight into Amore Pt 2. No way could I have waited.

I give it five stars, mostly because Amore pt 2 achieved a level of anxiousness I didn’t think it would be able to do. I can’t say a whole lot without giving away major spoilers, but the manipulation and the way Julietta felt so trapped with no where safe to turn reached levels I didn’t expect. This was not at all the sexy book the first one had been — although it definitely has that! — the suspense really takes the lead this time around. Needless to say, do not let yourself get caught up with Italian Mafia! It will not be all fun and sex, no matter what you’re promised!

I think I need to make Bella Jewel my next #authorluv author because I have now read 4 or 5 of her books and I’ve loved them all! Needless to say, I’ll be making my way through a lot more of her books in the future!

  1. These sound good! That sounds nice how that first book has a strong focus on the romance, but also a suspense plot line. I am not a fan of cheating either, even in cases where they don’t love the person they’re married to. And it sounds like part 2 was even better than part 1 and that sounds great how the suspense picked up there. Neat the narration was done well too.

    • They were good and super quick listens. The cheating ended up not bothering me much, it was handled really well. Definitely worth adding to your list 😊
