This feature is for short reviews, reviews of books in a series where it might feel repetitive, or (as Michelle suggested) books I was too lazy to write a “real” review for. Today’s books are from the same series, The Duke’s Men.

So good! I think this is my first historical where the characters are chiefly the illegitimate children, left with nothing. Loved Lissette and the way she was so independent and determined. Max is a lovable character, even if he was a pro at putting his foot in his mouth. The travel elements were so fun, especially as Lissette’s scheme fell apart (as they always do!)They are The Duke’s Men—an investigative agency born out of family pride and irresistible passion . . . and they risk their lives and hearts to unravel any shocking deception or scandalous transgression!
Maximilian Cale, the Duke of Lyons, accepted long ago that his kidnapped brother was dead. When a cryptic note from investigator Tristan Bonnaud claims otherwise, Max seeks out Tristan’s sister, Lisette—and is infuriated to learn that Tristan has mysteriously vanished. Have the siblings perpetrated an elaborate hoax? Or is the fiercely protective beauty as innocent as she claims?
Fearful that the powerful duke will destroy Tristan’s career in his zeal for the truth, the clever Lisette convinces Max to accompany her to Paris in a joint search for their loved ones. But their journey takes a seductive twist when they pose as an ordinary husband and wife—not an English duke with a tarnished family name and the illegitimate daughter of a viscount—and discover an exhilarating passion free from the damning secrets of the past. With the line between danger and desire enticingly blurred, they discover that some mysteries, like those of the heart, are answered tenfold in the bliss of a true and trusting love.
The narration was fantastic, with the French accent mixed in. And the nods to historical accuracy with the French Vedoc (spelling?) was cool. Look forward to reading more.

This is a great second chance romance! I love the independent Isa and all the fun characters she’s surrounded herself with in the years since losing Victor. The characters definitely made this story, though the romance and bit of action were also great. Looking forward to reading the next one. Will be sticking to audio – the narration is fantastic! Great accents and voice varieties! Berls is sharing her love of Just a Few Duke's Men! Have you read them? #audioreview Share on XIt had been a decade since Victor Cale, first cousin to the Duke of Lyons, had seen his wife. After some royal jewelry went missing from the jeweler's shop where they worked, Isabel Mertens disappeared. When Victor gets word of a woman who fits his wife's description, he sets out to confront her. But he discovers that nothing is as it seems—and revenge is never as sweet as true love.
I love me some historical romance! New author to me but still sounds fantastic 🙂 I love the idea of your feature.
Thanks Megan! Yes, I love Historical Romance and this author has become a favorite 😀
I LOVE Sabrina Jeffries. I haven’t read the first book but I think I own it. I did read When the Rogue Returns and loved it. It’s the only secret child book I’ve ever really loved.
