Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Have you ever dreamed of becoming an author?
For me, that’s THE DREAM. I love to write and tell stories – I’ve loved it since I was a child. And I’m a decent writer. I actually have a short story that was published in an anthology as part of a competition I entered. But to make it as an author you have to (1) have the time to write consistently and (2) know how to navigate the publishing world – whether it be by getting an agent and traditionally publishing or going the self-publishing route. That takes a level of dedication I’ve never managed to sustain. There’s too many other things competing for my time, at least right now. I think, if I knew that the time and commitment would definitely result in a good income, I would buckle down and do it. But, in reality, there’s an awful lot of authors out there who also work day jobs to make the income they need. I can’t do that, at least right now. So, for now at least, it remains a dream.
It does take a lot of commitment…and time. At least that’s what I hear. I hope you can muster both one day!
Yes and no. I’ll get super into the idea then I realize I don’t want anyone judging my writing lol The STRESS of it!
I hope you find a way, someday! Until then jot done thoughts, dictate into your phone, etc. You’ll get there!
I don’t dream of it but I definitely wouldn’t turn down the opportunity to have it as a career especially if I could make my living off of it! In fact, that sounds wonderful… Sigh. Maybe I should change my answer and say it IS a dream? But as you say, it takes time and commitment that I just find at the moment. 🙁
I feel the same way as you Berls. Writing fiction is the dream. For me it’s writing a cozy mystery. I have written 80% of one book and about 40% of another book and then I get stalled due to life, imposter syndrome and the more I learn about publishing the more daunting it seems.! Maybe we can start a COYER inspired write the damn book challenge. 🙂 Thanks for this great prompt!
Hopefully at some point you can and you already grasp a lot about the business as a book blogger.
I hope you can make your dream a reality someday!
