I always liked the poetry of Robert Frost as his poetry speaks to me. I tend to write about all different subjects. I do love to write inspirational poetry and I also like to write poems about my family, my hobbies, places I have traveled to, people I admire, and even like to write poems about my teddy bears and about the New York Giants!! Something just comes to mind and I get inspired to write a poem about it. I think poetry makes people think. It makes them feel and it makes them connected to the world. I do think more people should read poetry. Poetry is really a form of music and it speaks to the heart. I also love to write a good short story and tell a tale that people can sit and enjoy and relate to.

I Have a Friend on Jupiter!
Indiana and Carlos are very good friends who spend a lot of time together. They both like to read about outer space and astronomy and they like to spend time on the computer together. One day while working on the computer, they both discover a website that has pen pals in outer space. So both Carlos and Indiana sign up to have a pen pal on another planet.
Not long after they had sent their e-mails to their potential pen pals in outer space, they both receive an e-mail from someone on Jupiter. A space alien named Mannie wrote to Carlos and another space alien named Kossie wrote to Indiana. Soon both Indiana and Carlos are spending a lot of time researching the planet Jupiter on the computer and sending e-mails to their space pen pals.
One day, they decide to go up and see the Observatory so they can look at Jupiter through the big telescope there. That’s when they meet Professor Hagerty and they tell him about their space pals on Jupiter. Professor Hagerty warns them that it might be some kind of hoax and tells them to be careful of whom they are writing to.
As the weeks progress, and they keep hearing from their friends in Jupiter, one day one of these space aliens tells them that they are coming to Earth to see them. Indiana and Carlos are very excited at the thought of meeting their space pals from Jupiter. They once again go up to the Observatory to see Professor Hagerty and to show him the e-mail from their space pal. The Professor is more than curious and this time he has his friend Kit from NASA check out the e-mails from Jupiter. His friend confirms to him that the e-mails are indeed coming from outer space.
When the space ship lands, Professor Hagerty and the children are there to greet the space aliens from Jupiter. But Kit from NASA had gone to the military base nearby to let them know about the space ship coming, and when the Army shows up, they take Mannie and Kossie away and lock them up on the military base. Carlos’ Uncle and Indiana’s Mom find out what the children have been doing, and they both agree that Indiana and Carlos should be grounded for at least a week. However, Indiana and Carlos take their horses and ride their horses and discover their alien friends. They also learn of their magic powers. Carlos and Indiana with Uncle Raoul’s help hide the aliens on their property but the General comes looking for them. The aliens fight him off with their magic powers.
A reporter comes to see Carlos and Indiana and he interviews them about their space friends. They end up on the front page of the newspaper the next day. Soon, the children get a call from Professor Hagerty and they go with him and the aliens to their space ship to say goodbye.
When the story ends, the space aliens are returning to Jupiter and they invite Indiana and Carlos aboard their space ship to show them around. Then they say their good-byes. Indiana and Carlos leave the space ship and watch from the ground as the round space ship takes off into the air.
Here is the excerpt from the book:
Chapter One
Carlos and his friend Indiana liked to sit at the computer together, answer e-mails and check out Web sites. Carlos and Indiana were big fans of the space program and spent hours researching other planets and NASA online. They enjoyed watching sci-fi movies and reading science fiction magazines and books. One day Carlos discovered a very unusual Web site. He and Indiana were hooked on it.
“Check this out Indiana! We can have pen pals in outer space!” Indiana pulled her chair closer so she could see the computer screen. Squinting her eyes, she leaned in closer to see the wording. Indiana read the information on the Web site and seemed a bit skeptical. She just had to ask questions.
“How do we know they are from another planet? This might be some kind of bogus Web site, Carlos,” warned Indiana.
“I don’t think so. This Web site sends signals all over the universe. The sound patterns within the signals enable them to contact aliens from other planets who have a higher life form than we do.”
“I don’t know. Do you think that’s really possible?”
“Yeah, I do. Think of the fun we will have writing to an alien from outer space!” Carlos’ eyes grew wide with excitement, his face beamed with a smile.
Indiana read the information on the screen. It explained how from outer space, the Internet can be accessed since our astronauts use it on the Space Station. They said computer signals can reach all the way out to other planets and galaxies where aliens could receive the e-mails.
“How would this alien understand English?”
“They’re a higher life form so they can translate what we say into their space language and answer back in English,” said Carlos with a whole lot of confidence.
“Okay, you go first.” Indiana moved over so Carlos could have room to type up his e-mail.
“Great! I will.”
Carlos clicked onto the link for space pen pals, filled in the registration form, and clicked on the submit button. That brought him to an e-mail contact form and he wrote out this message:
Dear Space Friend,
This is Carlos from the planet Earth. I would like to be your friend. I live in the USA and I am twelve years old. I love animals and I live on a ranch here in New Mexico. My best friend is a girl named Indiana. I am a boy.
I love to ride horses. I don’t know if you have horses on the planet you live on. But they are a four-legged animal that run fast and many are racehorses. Horses are smart. They’re a beautiful animal.
My friend, Indiana and I spend a lot of time researching Web sites about other planets and galaxies. We watch a lot of science fiction movies about outer space too. A movie is a story on film, with actors and actresses acting out the whole script. Do you have movies on your plane
I hope you will write me soon
Your friend from the planet Earth
Carlos Montega
Carlos clicked the send button. He passed the keyboard to Indiana and he sat back in his chair. Indiana sat at the keyboard and wrote the following.
Dear Space Friend,
My name is Indiana and I am a 12-year-old girl living in the USA on the planet Earth. The USA is a big country and a very powerful one too. USA stands for the United States of America. My best friend is Carlos and he is a twelve year-old boy. We both love the computer and we love sending e-mails.
Carlos and I do a lot of research on the computer looking up information on other planets and galaxies. America has a space program and our astronauts travel to outer space and work in the Space Station that was launched several years ago. In 1969, the first astronaut landed on the Moon, (our Moon) and his name was Neil Armstrong. His famous quote “One small step for man, one giant leap for mankind”, remains forever in the history of space exploration.
Like Carlos, I love to ride horses. I am not sure if you have horses on your planet but we have many different kinds of horses here on the planet of Earth. They are a four-legged animal with a long tail, a beautiful mane of hair on their head and they are a fast-moving animal.
I also like to write poetry. Poetry is a form of writing where you rhyme words, and express your thoughts in a verse-style. Most poems are written in stanzas, a block of four phrases, though some are written all in one block of verse. Some poems have a lot of imagery to them, others are more romantic, and some are even humorous. I don’t know if you understand all this but I do hope to hear from you and learn about you and your planet.
I want to be your space friend.
Your friend from the planet of Earth,
Indiana Balmbacher
