My Review
I don’t even know were to begin and since I don’t want to give anything away because wow I could go on and on about the end. I will make this rather short and sweet since this is also a novella if I talk too much about it I’ll give it all away.
I was hoping for a lot more in this book and I was rather disappointed in the entire thing. Now don’t get me wrong I understand this is the first book she wrote and I definitely want to read the rest of the series. I know from reviews on her others books she is a fantastic author and I love the concept of this story but I HATED the characters and the world build was not even there. The ever-changing idea of wonderland was great but I never felt like I had a solid place to put my feet it was as if they were floating in air. I didn’t feel the connection between the characters and I felt it was forced, I was expecting a bit of a love story between them and only got a story of a girl who was taken by a fairy godmother and forced to fall in love with a man who was depressed and suicidal he was not the whimsical and nonsensical like the mad hatter is suppose to be (I understand this isn’t the same story but it was just so far off) This was more of a lust story and not the love story I thought it would be. The end was just an issue for me in a whole and completely made me lose all connection with the book. It really could have gone so far but fell so flat.
I gave Her Mad Hatter by Maria Hall 2.5/5 stars (but marked it as 3 on goodreads) as much as I was not happy with the characters or story I felt it had so much potential maybe as a full length book this would have been so much more but it just wasn’t a good as I had hoped. Maybe this just wasn’t the book for me. I probably would not recommend this book but then again maybe it was just me and you might love it. So take a chance and see what you think. I will for sure be reading the next in the series. If you read this let me know what you thought 🙂
PS sorry this is such a jumbled review – I just wasn’t sure how not to give away the end. Didn’t want to spoil it for anyone.
Thanks for stopping by and reading my review
Have a great day and Happy Reading
It sounds like novellas might not be this author’s strength. 🙁
Exactly!
I have to admit, everything about this book sounds pretty risque. A little Erotica never hurts anybody but I draw the line at XXX books. It still has to have a plot of some sort and I also feel that Wonderland is a world that’s really ambitious for other authors to emulate so I don’t really bother with any re-tellings of some sort.
Great review. 🙂
Hehe that end REALLY got you, huh? Well we’re a full star apart on our reviews, but I think we agree in several points. I think the big difference really is our feelings about wonderland. You had expectations and I didn’t.
