Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Bookish jobs: if you could do something in the bookish world for employment, what would you choose and why?
This is super easy. I would be an author. I have wanted to be an author since I was a little girl. I’ve written stories my whole life and have a novel that I wrote needing some editing. I won a contest and had a short story published – “Simulated Perfection” – in the anthology Welcome to the Future in my real (maiden) name. But that’s as far as I’ve ever gotten.
I’ve thought about making a real go of it several times, but life always gets in the way. I wish I could get hired as an author and have an hourly paycheck from it. But since I can’t, I doubt I’ll ever fully get to that dream job. Maybe in retirement (which may also be a dream…).
I used to write so I get that wish, but that was long ago, life came in the way, but my story lives on :/
Don’t give up! Even if it takes years and years, keep writing!
Never say never! I’ve heard so many stories about authors who come into it later in life. You never know!

I love this wish and never think it can’t happen. I’ve read author stories… 😉
That would be a dream to draw an hourly rate to write. Good one, Berls!
“I wish I could get hired as an author and have an hourly paycheck from it. But since I can’t, I doubt I’ll ever fully get to that dream job. Maybe in retirement (which may also be a dream…).”
Haha, that would be an awesome accommodation! And, I hear you about retirement. I hope you manage to publish at least a novel in your lifetime tough!
Being an author would be fun. I would love to own a book shop/cafe house. 😀
I’d like to work part-time at my library, esp. in the events department. That would be a fun paycheck –esp events for teens and middle grade kiddos.
I have thought about working or volunteering at the library as I am retired. Working parttime in a bookstore would also be fun, but only if there was not pressure to sell their specific book choices.
I start a volunteering job at a public library saterday (wish me luck :P)
That’s so cool! I would probably work in a public library. I’ve done that before and I love it. I’d want to work in circulation or maybe in the acquisitions department.
