Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Do you use reading subscriptions (e.g., Kindle Unlimited, Scribd, etc)? Why/why not?
I do! I used to have Kindle Unlimited, but I canceled that because I own SO MANY eBooks and I really wasn’t using it enough to be worth it. And, around the time I was considering canceling my KU subscription I learned about Scribd. For the same price, I get eBooks and audiobooks. And while the eBook selection isn’t quite as good, the audiobook selection has been fantastic. I read probably 3 or 4 times more audiobooks each month than I do eBooks so a subscription that includes audiobooks makes the most sense for me. I don’t feel the need to own everything I read, so a subscription is good, as long as I’m getting a few books a month out of it. If I’m not, it’s not worth the cost and I cancel the plan.
And once again, I somehow replied to another comment instead of posting my own comment.
I didn’t realize Scribd was the same price for audio and ebook as KU. I’ve listened to several audios through KU, but mostly just ebooks. I use KU when they offer free or $.99 3-month trials which works out great b/c I can read/listen to a ton in a short period like that and cancel to keep up with other sources including my shelves for the rest of the time.
I still have KU because some favorite authors and things I want to read are in it. I probably would do better just buying the books since I don’t use it too much. It’s hard to say.
I just let my KU subscription go because I wasn’t reading enough to make it worth it and they didn’t have the deep price cuts during Prime days like they usually do. I’ll have to check out Scribd though because I listen to more audio now too.

I’ve never tried either. I always wonder if the books I read are in KU. I know sometimes authors I love will advertise KU. Maybe someday…
