Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
What’s the chore you resent having to do the most?
Ya know, I absolutely love having a clean home but I wouldn’t mind if someone else did it – so ya know, all of them?! Under normal circumstances, I think laundry is the most annoying. It takes forever, you wash, you dry, you put away. It just is too much. But recently, I have a HUGE chore resentment.
If you follow my Sunday Posts, you know that I got some new neighbors and they brought roaches with them. And they are filthy, meaning no matter how much the office sprays, the roaches have a nice comfy home. And they come to my clean home. I don’t leave dirty dishes. I clean counters, sweep floors and mop daily. These days though I’m having to pick up Buffy’s water dish nightly. Scrub the sink, flush the drains, and cover the drains nightly. I mop nightly. I clean out the toaster nightly. I take out the trash from our covered trashcan nightly. All in an effort to get rid of these awful things for good. And it’s working but it’s so much extra work that most people don’t do every night. And I resent it. I resent it so much.
Can’t the office do anything to change those people’s mindset? If they live in an apartment complex, they have to clean after themselves, after all. (Also, do they LIKE roaches by any chance?!?). You must be exhausted, and besides…those things are so gross to look at, no matter have around!!!
So the office is doing the maximum amount of treatment they can — I forget the frequency, but there are environmental/safety precautions. They had the company come out and do an evaluation of the problem this week and they confirmed that it stemmed from that apartment. They can’t kick them out for it, but they can charge them fees. So they are now being charged (1) for the evaluation and (2) for all the treatments beyond the normally contracted amount. The idea being that they will hopefully not want to pay and thus clean up or two become delinquent because they can’t afford the fees and then they will have just cause to remove them. All this just came about this week – and I only know it because my husband works here – but the complaints from this building have been coming from everyone, not just me. I’m so hopeful right now!
You “win” the topic. What you have to do is the worst. I hope they are gone for good soon.
Thank you! We’re making progress. I only killed 3 roaches in the past 48 hours. HUGE progress from when they first moved in. And the poison I special ordered finally arrived yesterday. It’s not dog/toddler safe so I have to be strategic where I use it, but I’m hoping I can target some spots that are entries for them from the neighbors and stop them from coming.
I am sorry you have to be dealing with pesky roaches. Nothing I despise more than roaches well except for rats.
Oh god, rats would be worse — not only dirty like roaches, but they bite! But I hate roaches and really hope we’re almost done with them. I just got the special poison I ordered and am planning to put in places that are potential entries from then neighbors. Fingers crossed.
I hate roaches. They are worse than vacuuming and dusting I don’t like.
Oh dusting. Yeah that’s an awful chore… I’m not great at it, but I also try not to have too many surfaces that require dusting, for that very reason.
I’m exhausted reading your post. It’s got to be a major low key stress point for you. I hate that you have to deal with this invasion.
It really is. I think I put my back out moving heavy furniture to lay powder/traps. It’s been my own personal hell since they moved in and I cannot wait to be able to say the problem is gone. I have a feeling it will be a low-key battle as long as they are our neighbors though.
Wish I was rich so I could have a maid. Screw fancy cars and all that…I just want a maid.
Oh man, a maid would be absolutely amazing. A live in one, too, not just one who comes once a week/month to clean!
Vacuuming is the worst for me. My back isn’t in the best shape so it’s a bit of a struggle. 🙁
Oh yeah I can see that. I actually like vacuuming since I treated myself to a Dyson. But with a bad back that would not be easy.
