My top thoughts:
Well crap! I just realized I read this in the wrong order! This was book 2 in the series. So don’t make my mistake. Start with Suzy Spitfire Kills Everybody. See Goodreads doesn’t have them linked as a series and I don’t recall what made me think Suzy Spitfire and the Snake Eyes of Venus was first. But looking at the published dates, I was wrong.
That being said…
It was REALLY GOOD. And despite reading it in the wrong order, I never was confused about what was going on. I can definitely see where I was missing some relationship background and just general backstory that would have made it a richer read. But it was still good!
What I did/didn’t like about it:
I really enjoyed the characters – they are complex and grow a lot throughout the book. I enjoyed the relationships – potential for some real strong friendships over the course of the series – and a couple good romances too. There is so humor – kind of corny humor that you can’t help laugh at and felt pretty authentic.
I enjoyed the world as well – unlike a lot of Urban Fantasy I didn’t feel like I was bogged down with a world build. Instead it just kind of revealed itself as the story unfolded and I gradually grasped it. Now that I know it was book 2, I wonder if that first book had a lot of that world build?
I think my main complaint was one that will be solved when I go back and read book 1… I didn’t know some of the characters as well as I wanted to/wondered why they were really relevant. Now I think they probably were more prominent in the first book. We’ll see and I’ll let you know in that review.
I really look forward to reading book 1 and then, hopefully, there is/will be a book 3. Goodreads is going to need to fix that listing so I can see the series more clearly!
Even reading in the wrong order, Berls loved Suzy Spitfire and the Snake Eyes of Venus! 4.5/5 stars! Share on X
I shared the series for a tour and really want to read them. Sounds like a blast!
I read them backwards too!
I’m happy it was a great read even if it was out of order. Excellent review!
