Cover Characteristic ~ Pirates

Welcome to Cover Characteristic! This is originally Hosted by Sugar and Snark. The host is back from hiatus and I will be finishing out what I have set up and juggle between what I have and what they are doing. Don’t want to step on any toes. I have been eyeing up the meme for a while and am excited to finally be joining in.

After this week I will be going by their official rules of 5 covers however I might actually do 10 instead. I am still working out how I want to do this but it’s getting to be a lot with all these covers πŸ™‚ I love them but I might save the big ones for end of year posts. So after this week, it will be 5 or 10 covers max from books I read, want to read and found. πŸ™‚ (I would be some weeks will be more because I never stick to doing things one way) πŸ˜‰

This weeks theme is Pirates

I have a love for Pirates, I am sure they were rather smelly people but the way books and movies have romanticized them I find them to be fascinating and sometimes sexy. Pirated books were always my favorite especially historical romance. I found some of these covers to be gorgeous and still to this day after reading it almost 23 years ago, The Pirate and the Pagan cover is still my favorite.

Some of the books I have read and loved the covers of, Hook’s Revenge series which I have in paperback is a gorgeously handdrawn cover. I love the details and coloring of those covers. Even the font’s that are used is eye catching. When I think Pirates, I think Peter Pan and those retelling covers always have a pirate theme and are usually stunning. The Fog Driver’s coloring is the thing that caught my eye when I picked it up, the inside isn’t 100% pirate but they are scavenger pirates and I love that cover. Like I said above The Pirate and the Pagan is the winner for me this week. I loved those old Romance novel covers.

Next weeks theme isΒ Wings

Thanks for stopping by to check out this awesome covers.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!

  1. I read a book about space pirates last year :). Actually that’s probably the most common type of pirate I read about as I can’t remember a lot of books with pirates that i read. Nice list of covers, pirates always look so cool on covers. I really like the Treasure and Treason cover.

  2. So I’ve never read about pirates, unless you count Peter Pan, but recently I’ve been kind of wanting to give it a try. I’d also really like to read some Peter Pan retellings about Hook since I love his characters, so maybe I can kill two birds with one stone lol. Anyway the first cover I thought of was Treasure and Treason because I’m using that cover for a different topic. I also love the Unhooked and Hook and Jill covers! But you found a lot of great ones πŸ™‚

    • I think Treasure and Treason is part of a series that I now want to read lol I do love retellings of Peter Pan but with a twist on Hook. I am trying to think of one I have read that you might like but I can’t think of any lol. When I think Pirates only I tend to think more Historical Romance. Ashley Nixon has a different take on Pirates with a more fantasy feel. I really enjoyed them but the cover didn’t make it here. Worth checking out.

  3. Dang! You’re killing this one. πŸ™‚ Never Never is my favorite but The Fog Diver is close. And Neverland because mermaid. Treasure & trerason is good too even though it doesn’t look like my sorta read lol, but I like the stormy clouds and the little dragon.

    • Thank you πŸ™‚ I love Fog Diver, I was going to do the second one also but figured I need to keep it at least to 10 or 12. Otherwise I could fill up the entire blog with gorgeous covers. lol The Treasure and Treason is part of a series that I now want to read!

  4. I like me some pirates too, Michelle! Although I don’t think I read as many as I’d like. πŸ˜‰ I love these covers. I’m going to have to check out The Pirate and the Pagan. πŸ˜‰ Also, looking at these covers I found another series to add to my list of series I’m behind in…I’d forgotten Lisa Shearin’s series which I love so I can’t believe I forgot it…or that I’m so behind in it. *sigh*
    Happy Monday, girl!! πŸ™‚

    • YES, BRANDEE! Virginia Henley is Brilliant! I loved all of her books and she is what got me reading historical romance when I was 19, I might have read all of her books or at least most missing like 3 or 4 recent ones.

I actually want to check out Lisa Shearin’s Series, I think it looks like a great series! πŸ™‚
