Middle Grade Recommendation ~ The Books of Elsewhere

Posted September 21, 2020 by Michelle in Uncategorized / 2 Comments

Right before I started blogging, I got into a few Middle Grade stories that I thought were amazing and found some of my favorite stories that way.  These books are stories I wasn’t hearing about as much as other more popular books. This middle grade recommendation will be every so often and I will share some of my favorite books that I have read and also some books that I am going to read or have heard about and have been wanting to read. This series of posts will be good for teachers, parents and kids who love to read. Most of the recommendations are targets for Middle Grade readers, or early teens but honestly I think most of them can be enjoyed by just about anyone that loves a good story.

Today I am going to take about a series that I totally feel in love with and might be a series I plan to revisit since it was so long ago. I think I know how this story ends but there is a good chance that I don’t remember reading the last book, so I would love to read this entire series again since I love little Olive, Morton (the boy in the painting) and her three amazing cats, Horatio, Leopold, and Harvey. Olive moves into an old victorian house but the house has lots of secrets. Olive discovers a world inside the painting but the more she learns the more sinister it turns out because the people that owned the house were evil and they might not be as dead as people think.

This series has lots of conflict, adventure, growth and some scary moments that keep you on the edge of your seat. I adored this series and Jacqueline West really created a world that I enjoyed being it. Each book got even better and I don’t think I have one favorite in the series. It’s been a while since I have read these books and as much as I don’t reread books, this might be a series, I plan to go back to and just enjoy all over again.

The Books of Elsewhere series is a 5 book series, each book is about 250 to a little over 300 pages. Each book gets longer as the story gets more involved. I highly recommend for kids that love a fun character, lovable friends and a villain that sends shivers down your spine. I also think this is a great read for all ages. You will just love little Olive and her friends!

You can find the series here on Goodreads.

Thanks for stopping by and checking out my middle grade recommendation

I hope you have an amazing day! Happy Reading! xx

  1. I love a good middle grade story, and especially one with a little spookiness. These look fabulous.

Oh and I’m so behind on comments but I did see you mentioning Get Even on Netflix. I want to watch it! I loved the books, especially the first one. Have you watched it, and if so how is it???? I gotta binge it soon. 🙂
