We sit for hours looking through our TBR lists wondering when we will ever get to that one book we were dying to read when we added it 3 months ago or maybe even a year. As our piles get bigger we realize there is just not enough time in a day to read all the books that we wanted to read. Storm Siren (The Storm Siren Trilogy #1)
by Mary Weber
Hardcover, 320 pages
Published August 19th 2014 by Thomas Nelson / HarperCollins
“I raise my chin as the buyers stare. Yes. Look. You don’t want me. Because, eventually, accidentally, I will destroy you.”
In a world at war, a slave girl’s lethal curse could become one kingdom’s weapon of salvation. If the curse—and the girl—can be controlled.
As a slave in the war-weary kingdom of Faelen, seventeen-year-old Nym isn’t merely devoid of rights, her Elemental kind are only born male and always killed at birth — meaning, she shouldn’t even exist.
Standing on the auction block beneath smoke-drenched mountains, Nym faces her fifteenth sell. But when her hood is removed and her storm-summoning killing curse revealed, Nym is snatched up by a court advisor and given a choice: be trained as the weapon Faelen needs to win the war, or be killed.
Choosing the former, Nym is unleashed into a world of politics, bizarre parties, and rumors of an evil more sinister than she’s being prepared to fight . . . not to mention the handsome trainer whose dark secrets lie behind a mysterious ability to calm every lightning strike she summons.
But what if she doesn’t want to be the weapon they’ve all been waiting for?
Set in a beautifully eclectic world of suspicion, super abilities, and monsters, Storm Siren is a story of power. And whoever controls that power will win.
Damsel Distressed
by Kelsey Macke
Paperback, 321 pages
Published October 14th 2014 by Spencer Hill Contemporary (first published 2014)
Hot girls get the fairy tales. No one cares about the stepsisters’ story. Those girls don’t get a sweet little ending; they get a lifetime of longing
Imogen Keegen has never had a happily ever after–in fact, she doesn’t think they are possible. Ever since her mother’s death seven years ago, Imogen has pulled herself in and out of therapy, struggled with an “emotionally disturbed” special ed. label, and loathed her perma-plus-sized status.
When Imogen’s new stepsister, the evil and gorgeous Ella Cinder, moves in down the hall, Imogen begins losing grip on the pieces she’s been trying to hold together. The only things that gave her solace–the theatre, cheese fries, and her best friend, Grant–aren’t enough to save her from her pain this time.
While Imogen is enjoying her moment in the spotlight after the high school musical, the journal pages containing her darkest thoughts get put on display. Now, Imogen must resign herself to be crushed under the ever-increasing weight of her pain, or finally accept the starring role in her own life story.
And maybe even find herself a happily ever after.
Enhance the experience with the companion soundtrack, Imogen Unlocked, by the author’s band, Wedding Day Rain.

But when her father’s mounting medical bills threaten to stop her dream in its tracks, Ally nabs a position as Van’s on-set assistant to get the cash she needs.
Spending the extra time with Van turns out to be fun, and getting to know her sexy co-star Liam is an added bonus. If she can’t play by Hollywood’s rules, she may lose her best friend, her dream future, and her first shot at love.

Have a great day and Happy Reading!
I totally voted on my favourite cover – Storm Siren it is!
Storm Siren has been on my Kindle FOREVER, so of course I picked that one 😉
LOL I believe at the moment that one is winning!
Damsel Distressed won my vote because it looks like a fun read and fairy tale retellings usually win my heart.
Thank you for voting!!! 🙂
I really like the idea of a reverse Cinderella story. Sounds completely unique for a fairy tale retelling – at least it does for me!
Me too! I picked that one up at BEA last year based on the synopsis. I look forward to reading it either this time around or next month 🙂
I voted for Storm Siren cause it had a cool name. 😉
LOL
This was an easy one for me 🙂 I’ve been wanting to read storm siren for a while! Hope it wins!
Seems to be the popular one 🙂
🙂 Pretty covers get me everytime!
I went with the first one because the cover is so pretty!! 🙂
Storm Siren! It’s so pretty! 😀
It is, I hope it’s good and when I am done, I can send it to you 😉
I have a paperback for storm siren but the other two I have on my kindle and signed books, I don’t like to read books that are signed so I am happy to have them on my kindle (I found them for 99cents yay) I will be getting to them this year regardless but Distressed Damsel sounds fun too because it’s a retelling. Maybe I’ll go in order of the voting so next month I’ll read whoever got the second most votes 🙂
First – I love the new graphic! Now, for the books…you’re really good at making it hard to decide, Michelle! I ended up voting for Storm Siren because I have it on my kindle so I’m eager for your thoughts on it. BUT I will be happy if either of the other books win as well because I want to read them too!! Distressed Damsel was already on my tbr list but Behind the Scenes is going on it now. 🙂
I voted for Storm Siren, but this was a hard decision, because they all sound really good!
LOL that’s why I made you all do it 🙂
The second book for that one is almost out so If this is really good I can jump on the next one quicker 🙂
Thanks for voting
I was thinking of going for Damsel Distressed but Storm Siren sounds a lot like Poison Study and I loved that book, so I voted for it. 🙂
Storm Siren had the second book already out or available (I can’t remember) so at least I know if I LOVE it (if it wins) I can read the second one without waiting 🙂
I haven’t heard of either of these books, so I voted for Damsel Distressed as I like the cover and it sounds like a fun twist on the traditional fairy tale stories. I was thinking of including only reading assignment books this month as well, but went with books in series I started already, although one of those is on my list for my reading assignment.
I just couldn’t decided what to read this month. Figured this would be a good way so the book counts for both 🙂 Feel like I’m cheating lol
