#Review ~ Destined for a King (The Bastard Brotherhood #1) by Ashlyn Macnamara

I am not even sure how to write this review. The captivating cover, the synopsis that gave me the chills and the fact I haven’t read a book like this in forever is exactly why I felt I NEEDED this book. I have been wanting something like this for a while, I haven’t read a historical romance since I was in my 20’s and I never realized how much I missed them. This has a great paranormal twist that just set the bar for me when reading books like this. I love when a HR adds a bit of magic.

The story is about a strong female Calista Thorne who is promised to a corrupt king but the land she lives on is taken over by the dashing Torch who insists that they are meant to be together because he saw it with his stone. I loved everything about these two, they had a few funny moments and I just thought the chemistry was so intense between them. My heart hurt for them and cheered for them. They are a perfect match and I loved how they are developed. This book for me had great character build and the world was set very nicely. You get a lot of info about Torch and sometimes it was a little hard to keep up but it wasn’t a complete dump. It spreads across the book evenly so it’s not all happening at one. Even with it a little hard to keep straight once you get the full story it becomes rather clear how the magic work. I enjoyed the twists in the book and once this one was over, it has a great ending, I can’t wait to get my hands on the next one.

I am so glad I saw this book and I am even happier that I was able to read it. I honestly read this one in a few days. I couldn’t put it down. I loved everything about this and excited to have a new series to enjoy. This is my first book from Ashlyn MacNamara and I am happy to report it will not be my last. I highly recommend, this is a really great read, lots of action, awesome steamy moments and amazing character and world build. A must read!

    Macnamara is an author I’ve been meaning to read for quite some time since Lexxie loves her so much. Your review as well as Lexxie’s are making me think Destined for a King is where I need to start! I love that you read this and realized how much you enjoy HR, Michelle. I used to have a more steady diet of HR but for some reason drifted away. In the last year, I’ve been making sure to add more in because I absolutely love it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts – I’m eager to meet Calista and Thorne. I especially like the idea of the paranormal twist in this one! 🙂
