News at Home: COVID Quarantine Week 10
I finally have a truly good week to report! Yay!
So Monday I decided that I needed something positive and low-pressure in my life. So, when Kiko got home from work and could watch Dante, I went to Home Depot and bought a tomato plant, a jalepano plant, and a cilantro plant. I’ve wanted to garden for so long and I always say I’ll do it when I have more time. Well, no more waiting. And I’m loving taking care of my plants and checking them out each morning. Dante wants to eat them, so I’ve had to get creative blocking him from them lol!
Then Tuesday, I got two great emails. The first was to complete a screening questionnaire for a position, as the first step for an interview and the second was to schedule an interview for a position. Both are for internal positions, which is what I want most. When I got the email to schedule the email, I cried a little. It was the sign of a chance, finally! I’ve applied to probably 50 positions, so huge relief. The interview was scheduled for Friday.
I spent Wednesday and Thursday applying to other positions – not counting my chickens – as well as preparing for the interview and then Friday was the interview. It was a phone interview and I think it went really well. The position is basically a lateral move, but I’d be moving from the University to the Hospital. The manager was incredibly friendly and she knew about my department’s situation because my manager had emailed her recommending me. She said after reading the email from her, she could feel how much she respected me and how talented she thought I was and she knew she had to interview me (so I owe my manager big!). She said that she wanted me to meet the team for a group interview, and that she’d have the recruiter schedule it. Within an hour the recruiter had emailed me, requesting my availability. Two hours later, we had a time set. So I’ll have my second interview Thursday at 2 p.m. on Skype. The manager also said that she wanted the position filled before June, so I’m hoping that she wouldn’t be spending time on an interview the last week of May without considering me a top candidate. Fingers crossed that next week I’ll be able to report a job offer!!
Then yesterday, Franky’s punching bag that we ordered for his birthday April 6th was FINALLY available for pick up at Academy. And considering we’ve been so careful – and his family has been so careful – I picked it up and then we all went over to his house and spent the day with the family. Dante got to play with his big brother on the trampoline and with the new punching bag. He played with the dogs and ate some vermicelli (oh yeah, this week Dante started eating finger foods instead of purees too!). We made fajitas and just had a great family day.
I’m incredibly hopeful that things will keep looking up this week ahead. I’m still looking for and applying to jobs. Until I have an offer that I have accepted, I will be looking.
Blog News
With all the focus on the interview, I didn’t really do as much with the blog this week. I will hopefully get refocused starting today with visiting and setting up some posts.
What a good week for you, Berls. And I hope the interview goes well for you!
Fingers crossed!! I hope you hear some good news about that position!!! Glad you got to have some family time too sounds great!
Oh what a great week! Hope and family!! I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed for you.
I’m keeping everything crossed for you with the second interview! I really hope you get the position.
Glad you had a lovely day with family. We all need that at the moment…
Yay! You sound so much happier this week and I’m so glad you’re feeling better. Definitely taking control of things and getting things done that you’ve been wanting to try is such a great idea. Fingers crossed on the job! We’ve done a few visits with family as well and it’s been really nice to see people but we are definitely staying careful. Hope you have a great week!
That’s awesome you did something positive and bought some plants for yourself. I like having plants around and have a bunch of plants in front of your windows. I planted a glove of garlic last week to see what happens, we probably won’t eat it, but it’s fun to see how it grows so far and makes for a nice additional plant.
That’s some good news you finally got two replies for positions you applied to. Job searching is so disheartening and getting finally a reply that takes you to the next step in the process is definitely something worth celebrating. Glad to hear that phone interview went well and good luck with the second interview next week!
That’s great your whole family has been so careful and you got to visit them for a fun family day. I hope next week is a good week for you!
This absolutely makes my day! I’m so happy. Remember that you are awesome. One of the things I found most helpful in an interview was asking more about them, the interviewer, the position, etc. It showed my true interest. Of course, you do have to answer their questions but sometimes I made it clear I was interviewing them just as much as they were interviewing me. But also I asked because I wanted to learn and understand as much as I could so it wasn’t false or anything.
Good luck this week! Stay safe and well.
Berls you had such a great week!!! I’ll send all the good vibes your way!
Yay for a good week! And ooh cilantro. I love adding that to foods. And awesome about the interview! I’m hoping you get something perfect for you- good luck with next one. 🙂
Fajitas- yum!
Have an awesome week!

How exciting about your second interview next week, Berls! I’ll keep my fingers crossed for you 🙂
And I love that you were finally able to celebrate Franky’s birthday, the pictures and the video you shared on FB were too cute for words 🙂
