COVID Quarantine Week 40

News at Home

The short version

I spent a lot of this week prepping for COYER 2021 and getting organized on the blog for 2021. Dante’s naps were mostly  good, with some not-so-good. I might have to start going to work 1x a week in January (Yikes!), but at least I’m also high up on the vaccine list. Christmas shopping sucked a lot of time this week, but I think we’re done! I started baby-wearing dancing with Dante (ouch back, but fun) and Kiko was on call which ruined our Thursday evening. Christmas got rescheduled for today! Whew – that’s the week!

A great day, but a blur. Dante let me sleep in until almost 9! We did breakfast and then I had groceries to pick up. It was raining and felt so bad for the loaders, but on a positive when I got home the rain paused long enough for me to get the bags in! After I put groceries up and got Dante down for a nap it was time for COYER book club. Book club was great and we made some great plans for 2021 – I folded my laundry during book club (which if you recall from last week, had been waiting to be folded an entire week!). After book club Dante was up, but I managed to get all the events setup for the 2021. Even though it was a busy blog day, it didn’t really afford me any time to visit posts, reply to comments, etc — so I’ll be playing catch up (hopefully by tomorrow). Then it was dinner, clean up, and getting everything ready for tomorrow. I’m going to try and get up early again and workout… I took last week off because I was feeling so overwhelmed. I can’t keep that up though! Fingers crossed it’s not too cold (I workout on the balcony).

Today was busy! I was in meeting from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. – that’s a huge chunk of my day and it’s always challenging to juggle non-stop meetings with taking care of Dante. But I managed and Dante napped well, which was a blessing. I actually had to get him up, he was sleeping so long I was worried it would interfere with bedtime sleep. When he woke up he was groggy and we ended up doing some couch cuddles and reading. My kind of afternoon/early evening. After we got Dante down for bed, we focused on some of our remaining Christmas gifts. We debated for a long time and I have some items in my shopping cart, but we didn’t decide on anything. Which is really frustrating because the longer we debate, the less time we’ll have for items to arrive on time. Plus I was up too late to not be done yet!

The only negative today was in one of my meetings there was discussion of starting to return to the office 1 time per week in January. This is a revision of a previous plan to not return to the office at all until May. While working with Dante is difficult, it’s definitely the preferable scenario right now. It make me nervous to think of anyone watching him that I can’t know their level of precaution. When I’ve had to go in previously, Kiko has taken the day off work. But if it’s 1 time per week from January – May, I think that would eat up more vacation time than he has. We’re debating asking Franky’s girlfriend if she could come to watch him if this does indeed happen. It’s not ideal – they live an hour away and, while she could ride in with Franky’s mom (she’s the manager here), they’d have to be on time because I would be gone already and Kiko couldn’t start work until they got here. On the positive, Kiko would only be late to work because his boss was late with childcare… so… I do at least feel we could trust her, Buffy (our dog) knows her, which is always a challenge when thinking of someone to come to the house, and I like the idea of Dante getting to stay in familiar surroundings. We shall see.

Another busy day – I actually ran out of time to write this last night because it was already so late. And I don’t remember most of yesterday lol! I can say I was up late finishing Christmas shopping – we’re done with the items we’re buying online. Kiko has to go to the store for a couple gifts and then 100% done. I was also up late trying to give Kiko suggestions of what to get me. I want things sure, but things like storage for my new tree and all the ornaments that have just been in bags. He says those things don’t count as gifts. Plus, he doesn’t online shop on his own (won’t use his cc online) so it has to be available local. Makes it very hard and I kind of just want to say, give me the money you were going to spend and I’ll buy my own gift lol!

Today was busy — and I kept thinking it was Tuesday. But the week is flying by and we’re almost done with 2020! Hallelujah! We decided yesterday that I will take off Monday – Wednesday next week (we both get Thursday and Friday), then Kiko will take off the following Monday – Wednesday (he gets Thursday & Friday, I only get Friday). So I put in for that time off today and I can’t believe I’ve only got 2 more days of work before a break. And even though technically I’m only getting a week off, it’s going to feel like so much longer because Kiko will be off and I’ll only have 1 job those days!

In other interesting news, vaccines arrived at the hospital where I work yesterday and we’ve already vaccinated all of our 1a group and moved on to 1b and 1c. I’m in group 1e, so as long as supply keeps coming, I wouldn’t be surprised if I get vaccinated next month. Almost everyone I work with is actually in the 1c group and are getting vaccinated tomorrow. How crazy that my life took so many changes over the past 1.5 that I’m now working at a hospital and get to see this unfold from the inside! It’s very cool to be involved in the emails rearranging space, looking for RN staff to volunteer to be on the vaccination schedule (several of our team are volunteering), and attending meetings about freezer guidelines and such. Never dreamed I’d be in this kind of a position a year ago!

I finished importing my books from Amazon today (every book I’ve purchased on Kindle from 2013) into Goodreads. Now to do Audible books. That will take longer, since there’s no import button. After Audible, I need to get the books on my OneDrive, Google Drive, and physical shelves. I’m determined to start 2021 with my shelves done!

Work was actually slow-ish today. I mean, I had a constant to-do list, but I wasn’t juggling a bunch of tasks. And Dante napped well. So all in all, my day was easy. When Dante woke up, I found some fun baby wearing dance videos to do with him – whenever I want to dance with him he wants to be held. So I figured put him in a carrier and dance. We did maybe 10 minutes before my back started to hurt (he weighs 25 -30 pounds!), but it was a lot of fun. We also read some stories after his nap and he giggled adorably with the farm animal sounds.

The rough part of today was that Kiko is on call this week. He got home at 5:40 (which is about 30 minutes later than normal) because of a leak. Then, pretty much right after he got cleaned up and it was time for him to watch Dante so I could have a little time, he got a call about a heater. He had planned on cooking dinner and I had nothing as backup, so I ended up ordering a pizza and some wings. He got home right before the pizza was delivered. We ate and just as we were finishing he got another call, this time about another leak. So I was on my own for all the night time stuff – cleaning up dinner, playtime, bedtime, etc. While I was cleaning up Dante, Buffy got a chicken wing bone and i’m a little nervous (she ate the whole thing). Normally I would have been cleaning up dinner while Kiko cleaned up Dante. *sigh* you can only do so much by yourself. Kiko called at 8 to say goodnight to Dante and told me that he didn’t know when he’d be home, it wasn’t just a leak, it was a burst pipe. It’s 9:30 now and no sign of him. But Dante’s asleep, dishes are done, and I’m winding down for bed. Tomorrow’s Friday! Yay!

Today was pretty good. I was supposed to have a ton of meetings and for various reasons they got cancelled, which was great! yay! Dante napped for only 30 minutes but he wasn’t fussy, so IDK. I feel like naps are just a constant guessing game with him. At least he’s a good night sleeper. After Kiko got off work I had to run to the office. The hospital opened up a new tower and our offices got moved to the new tower yesterday. My boss needed me to come and leave some stuff in my space so that it looks claimed and no one else tries to take it. It’s nice but SMALL. I had so much more space in my previous department. I think my old desk space was the size of my Director’s space here. Interesting the discrepancy. My old department had money, but not security. This one has less of an operating budget, but security. I’ll take security first I think.

This evening Kiko and I were talking about Christmas plans and it seems his office is going to have a Christmas party on Wednesday. Which sucks because he’s the only one who wears a mask. He feels obligated to attend. It’s not the professional kind of environment where you have space to say you don’t feel comfortable. So that completely changed our holiday plans – my brother was supposed to come over Wednesday for Christmas but now we don’t feel good having him around. So we did some texting tonight and we’re going to try to swing a Sunday Christmas (as in two days from today) instead. I hate 2020 y’all. But at least we’ll find a way to celebrate together while minimizing exposure risk. And now I’m off to bed! Lots to do tomorrow to rearrange my plans.

Today was great! Dante slept in until 8 a.m. and we had a nice breakfast. Then I dd some relaxing and planning with my brother for our quickly changed Christmas plans. Then I had our final prep meeting for COYER 2021 – working out the social media posting details with Lillian and Stephanie (and of course Michelle). We have a great plan and I spent a lot of the afternoon getting everything into the calendar for 2021. I also ordered groceries and finished wrapping the last of our Christmas presents – minus a gift that WAS in Dallas before USPS sent it to Pittsburgh and it’s been sitting there for 3 days. We may be sharing a picture of that gift. Oh and a book for Dante, but that’s not a big deal – he’ll get it whenever it arrives if it’s post Christmas. I did some more baby wearing dancing with Dante and we watched a couple episodes of Away on Netflix. A gift arrived from a friend – I didn’t know it was a gift, otherwise I would have waited to open it. But it was a talking Buffy Slayer Guide and I’m itching to start reawatching Buffy. Maybe this week while I’m off! That’s it for me have a great week!

Blog News

I never managed to get caught up on visiting and replying to comments this week due to all my other organizing activities! So sorry! But with next week off I’m hoping to really get lots of visiting in.

COYER 2021

Have you signed up yet? I hope you can join us!

It just occurred to me that I haven’t officially signed up -so consider this my sign up post (which I will link). I plan to try and participate in the COYER Seasons more than I have in a long time – actually linking reviews and keeping track of my progress. I’ll share my progress here 🙂

Added to My Shelf

I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?

How was your week? What are you Reading?

  1. I hope your early Christmas is a good one as well as Christmas day!
I’m probably at the back of the vaccination queue due to my age and no underlying risk factors but I’m excited to get the jab when it’s my turn! Exciting that by working for a hospital you’re near the front. 🙂 I’ve got quite a few friends in the medical field and they’ve had their first jab already.

Hope this week is a good one! Enjoy your time off.

  2. An office Christmas party where no one wears masks? Yikes! I just couldn’t do it. They would have to think whatever they wanted but that’s just foolish at this point. Ugh, nine months in and people still don’t get it. On the plus side, that’s awesome that you could get the vaccine so soon. I hope that happens for you!

  3. I love that Kiko won’t buy you gifts for the house as Christmas gifts! Smart man! That is great! I’m so glad you are going to have a nice couple of weeks with only having to juggle one job and some good stretches of time off.

Good luck working on those shelves! I know mine won’t be done until sometime in the New Year! Poor Kiko and also poor Berls! It’s super frustrating when your on call and you are literally working that whole time! I hope Buffy comes through it okay!

I hope you and your family had a great Christmas today!

  4. I just meant to say I really enjoy your weekly recaps – there’s so much stuff, I live vicariously LOL 😉.

Goodness, what are people thinking? Don’t they realise we’re in the middle of a darned pandemic? I hope he (and you and Dante of course) stays safe!

  5. While it was a busy week, things were mostly went well. I’m excited to hear you have so much time off the next 2 weeks. How often is Kiko on call? That has to be difficult some times. I’m very excited about COYER. It’s going to be a great year. I saw some of the RATs and wish some were longer than a week but it will still be fun. I mean I could have used several weeks of the Catchup 2020 RAT. lol I wish you and your family a lovely holiday season with peace and joy!

  6. Good on you to get COYER and blog stuff done while prepping for Christmas. Yay for being so close to getting vaccinated. Hope the once a week on site works well. I got Beechwood Harbor Christmas, too.

Have a good Christmas week, Berls!
