News at Home

Well I dropped off for a few weeks! Life has just been a lot. I know a lot of people don’t like to talk about politics because they don’t want to damage relationships. I get that, but I also think that’s part of how the US has gotten into such a mess. People don’t talk about politics enough, they only get their information from social media and are so unaware of what is actually happening in their government. So I won’t not talk about it and I hope that those who voted for Trump are willing to really truly look at all the things that have already started happening and start informing themselves better for future elections. Unless, of course, they’re happy with what’s happening and if they are, well then yeah we really have nothing to say to each other because we have radically different morals.

Without going into a very long winded explanation – I started to try and type it out but it’s just way too much – every 3rd week my husband now lives at the apartment complex instead of with us. This is 100% due to our current administration and it fucking sucks. The first time we did this, I was unprepared for how much Dante would miss his dad. It was really hard. We start our second time doing this tomorrow and I’m not looking forward to being a single mom for a week or dealing with Dante’s – very just & understable – emotions. He cried a lot last time and kept telling me he wanted dad to come home. I really hope this time goes a little better because he now knows daddy is coming back.

On the plus, Dante has been moved from his special education class to a general education class as of Friday! I’m so proud of him and how far he’s come. I’m also very nervous but I’m going to be very involved to ensure he gets the support he needs every step of the way. We have another ARD meeting in May to set goals for Kindergarten so we can be sure he’s setup for success.

We -Dante, a friend of mine, and I – also took our first away trip EVER last weekend. We left Saturday morning, drove 3.5 hours without stopping because Dante did amazing, and stayed with my friend’s parents in their new home on the lake until Monday morning. It was a fun time and Dante did really great for his first time away.

The only downside was that I was sick the whole time there — and have been struggling with severe nausea since February 8th. I got a Mirena IUD on February 7th (multiple reasons, but the primary motivator is this administration) and I’m afraid it’s not settling with me well at all. I rarely vomit (though I definitely a few times a week) but pretty much every time I eat solid food I get severe nausea and chills – so bad that I have to sit in a hot shower with my head on my knees with the hot water going down my back for about 20 minutes. I’m ready to give up on solid food completely, which I realize isn’t actually an option. I’m struggling to get in more than 700 calories a day.

Kiko mostly fixed the car and it passed inspection, yay! Of course, now the truck is leaking… it never ends does it. I feel like we are hemorrhaging money lately – we got hit with a $700 electric bill (our norm is $150-200 so that was a shock!) and we’ve been keeping the heater set at 55 (minimum so pipes won’t freeze) while using space heaters for the past 3 weeks just to save ourselves from another $700 bill. I got the bill today (Saturday) and it’s $300. So improvement but still so much. Kiko identified the problem and has fixed it we think, but now we’re scared to really use our heater. Now that we’re in a new bill cycle and he fixed it, we’ve brought the temp up to 65 and we’ll keep a close eye on consumption.

Anyway, yeah it’s been a lot these past few weeks but we’re making it one step at a time.

How was your week? What are you Reading?

  1. That is a lot. It’s weird because my daughter has had nausea since December. They think it is SIBO from her IBS and she’s been taking the special meds now for 2 weeks and hasn’t had the nausea. I am not happy about this administration and knew I wouldn’t be. That’s why I volunteer and do what I can. I went through a period where it seemed like every week something broke and I got so tired of figuring out the fixes. So glad to have an update here.
