Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Do you read classics? Why or why not?
I do, but not super often simply because I’ve already read so many of the big MUST READ classics. I took one of those quizzes and I had read 41/50 on that list. But I really do like a lot of them. Jane Austen and the Bronte sisters are some of my favorites — to the extent that I actually reread a couple of them each year. Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice I used to reread yearly, now it’s every few years. This past year I read Persuasion, Sense and Sensibility and Emma all at times where I needed a good comfort read.
I really need to try Pride and Prejudice. Someday…
Oh you SO DO! Have you seen the A&E Version? It’s incredibly accurate to the book.
I don’t! Other than the ones required for school, I think I’ve only read Wuthering Heights which was for a reading challenge. I really have no interest in classics at all.
That seems to be most people! I just really got lucky reading some super good ones in high school and college I guess and so I’ve continued reading them. But I read some awful ones too lol
I am so NOT good at reading classics >*
This seems to be the popular response, you’re not alone! lol
I don’t read them. I barely have time to read the new books that I want to read. So many books, so little time as they say.
So true! Every now and then I really get hit with a bug to read a good old classic. But I also really can’t keep up with the new stuff.
I do not. I read a few back in school, tried few more recently but I glaze over lol

LOL you’re not alone! They are definitely slower reads for me because of their older writing style I think.
Same. I read many in high school and college age. I LOVE Dickens. But I read many others.
Oh I actually HATED Dickens lol. Great Expectations was misery to read for me. I wonder if I’d feel the same now.
If I read classics it’s usually a re-read of my favorites. I should read some classics this year that I haven’t read yet. 😛
I do a lot of rereading favorites too! It’s been a while since I read one that I haven’t read… but I really have read so many of them!
I do like classics too.
Some of them, it’s so easy to see how they became classics! others, not so much lol
