Adria, wolf changeling and resilient soldier, has made a break with the past - one as unpredictable in love as it was in war. Now comes a new territory, and a devastating new complication: Riaz, a SnowDancer lieutenant already sworn to a desperate woman who belongs to another.
For Riaz, the primal attraction he feels for Adria is a staggering betrayal. For Adria, his dangerous lone wolf appeal is beyond sexual. It consumes her. It terrifies her. It threatens to undermine everything she has built of her new life. But fighting their wild attraction proves a losing battle.
Their coming together is an inferno.... and a melding of two wounded souls who promise each other no commitment, no ties, no bonds. Only pleasure. Too late, they realize that they have more to lose than they ever imagined. Drawn into a cataclysmic Psy war that may alter the fate of the world itself, they must make a decision that might just break them both.
My top thoughts:
This series is progressing fabulously! I’m loving the way we’re seeing more of the previous couples in these more recent books and the plot has really taken off. Super excited for the next few (and last) books!
What I liked/didn’t like:
I didn’t expect to get a story for Adria, since when we met her she was married. But I’m glad we did, since she was so unhappily paired. And then Riaz shows up knowing he’s found his mate and it’s not Adria. Anne and I thought (we buddy read as always) it was going to be a bit of plot recycle of the Sienna/Hawke and a bit of the Indigo/Drew mating stories. I was pleasantly surprised to find out that it was a bit different! I don’t want to spoil it, so I’ll just say it was a surprising change for this series. It did take me a while to like Riaz; his treatment of Adria didn’t work for me at the start, but he grew on me.
And then there’s the plot! Whoa! So much to say, but too much to spoil! The action of the last book has really moved things along and we’re now in the thick of what we’ve been waiting for. We’re watching the Changelings and all the other various groups start to really coalesce in defense of certain elements of the Psy. Meanwhile, the different Psy factions are starting to show their true colors – some in pleasantly surprising ways, others in even more terrible ways than we expected. It’s exciting and I feel like it will only grow more so as the books progress.
Narrator thoughts:
I’m probably a broken record at this point. Angela Dawe is fantastic and a treat to listen to. She voiced the badly injured Henry Scott in a particularly chilling way in this book that just made his injuries and his fanaticism come off the page brilliantly! I’m so glad I chose to listen!
I was so mad at Riaz at first. But, wow, there was so much going on with this one to love. Angela Dawe is something else, too.
Thanks so much for reading with me and doing the chats. I really feel this is more UF than PNR in many ways but I guess there isn’t just ONE main couple there are many which takes it over to PNR but they sure continue to develop throughout the series which I love. The plot was so much more than the couple here.
Now I’m thinking about reading to this series as audiobooks since you like the narrator so much. Is it the same one for the entire series?
It is! I love her in other series as well. She’s done a great job with this SERIES. I highly recommend it.
