News at Home: COVID Quarantine Week 14
Happy Father’s Day! Kiko’s still in bed (but that’s the normal on a Sunday) and we don’t have any big plans for today. I got him a card and so did Dante. I ordered him a couple shirts that haven’t arrived yet, so he’ll be without a gift today. Such is life with COVID, I guess, right? Franky is planning to come over before Kiko wakes up and make him breakfast, which will be a nice surprise. That’s about it for Father’s Day. I know both Kiko and I are consumed with thoughts of Dante’s surgery which is tomorrow morning. I know it’s what he needs and he’ll be fine, but it sucks. I did get good news on Friday, though, that BOTH parents can come in the surgery center. As of last week, only 1 parent was allowed. So that’s a relief.
This week was my first week on the new job and it went really well. It is very weird starting a new job from home – I didn’t really talk to any of my new team much and that’s so unusual for starting a new position. I feel like that’s the main activity when you start a new job usually… getting to know everyone. I had lots of down time and have a feeling that will be true a lot, at least while working from home. And based on how COVID is going here in Dallas, that could be a long while.
Since I need to be “on the clock” during regular work hours, as opposed to the crazy adaptable hours I was working in my previous department, we had my step-son Franky come over to help with Dante. I had planned to work in the same room as they were playing, but we quickly realized that wouldn’t work because if he could see me, Dante wanted me. So I was confined to the bedroom and came out if I heard Dante crying and it wasn’t letting up (1 or 2 times… he was tired/hungry earlier than I anticipated), and to make bottles and put Dante to sleep. Basically Franky’s job was to play and keep him safe. He did great – better than anticipated – and Dante slept so well this week because he was TIRED. So was Franky I hear lol. He said he was more tired than when he worked at Whataburger. 😛
On Monday Dante had his 9 month check up and he’s doing perfect. He’s 22 lbs 15 oz and 28.25 inches tall. So a big boy. They gave us a different formula to try because he spits up so much. It seems to be helping too which is great. Thursday we had to drive out to the surgery center for his COVID screening. It’s a 40 minute drive, the visit only took 5 minutes – drive up, they come to the car and swab his nose, and leave. Dante had this look on his face as we were leaving like, “Did we really drive that long way just so she could put something up my nose? I did not like it.” LOL!
Friday we had major rain storms and it was beautiful. But Saturday morning my pepper plant was basically floating in water! So I dumped out as much of the water as I could and I’m hoping it survives. My tomato plant seems fine. *fingers crossed*
That’s it for me – just a nervous wreck for Dante’s surgery tomorrow. He can’t have any formula after 4 am so I have a feeling he is going to be HANGRY by time we get to the surgery center. I wish I could explain to him! Anyway, prayers and healing thoughts are appreciated. Have a great week!
Blog News
I did no blogging this week. I was just trying to settle in with the new job, but I do think it’s going to afford me plenty of blogging time. This upcoming week I won’t be on much though, since I’ll be focused on Dante. Hopefully the following week!
Glad the first week went well and it’s awesome that Frankie could help out with Dante while you got some work done. 🙂
I’d say I have everything crossed for Dante’s surgery but I already saw on Instagram that it went well so I’ll say I’m so glad instead! My friend’s son had surgery for the same purpose a couple of years ago and recovered so quickly from it so fingers crossed it’s speedy healing for Dante too!
I so hope everything went well yesterday, Berls! And I hope the new continues to go well. I can’t imagine how strange it must feel to start a new job without seeing or meeting anyone face to face.
I hope the surgery went well and it’s wonderful that you could both be there.
Congrats on the new job, and I hope the surgery goes perfectly. Have a good week!
Glad the new job is working out well and Franky was a trooper with Dante. I’ll be praying tomorrow while he’s in surgery. Have a good week, Berls!
I’m so glad things went pretty well this week. I hope tomorrow goes very well and then the rest of the week will be easier. I’m glad you are WFH because I don’t think COVID is over by a long shot.
I agree Anne, I don’t think it’s even close. I wonder if we will ring in the new year from quarantine, honestly.
Thank you, I’m super anxious, even though I’m mostly confident that he’ll be fine. I won’t truly feel good until I’m holding him in my arms and it’s all done.
Have a great week ❤️
