Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
Social media: Love them or hate them?
Kinda meh? Here’s the thing about social media for me – I’m perpetually behind the trends. I am finally comfortable with Instagram and now people are moving to to Tik Tok. I find it very frustrating and wish we could pick one and stick to it.
On top of that, I only really TRULY like social media for our Facebook COYER group. I do post on Facebook and Instagram for other reasons periodically – like when I was keeping people up to date with our blackouts in Dallas – and I do scroll a few times a day on both Facbeook and Instagram. When I first started blogging, I really used Twitter. Now, I find it much to difficult to keep up with and only read tweets that are sent to me. And my only book related posting to social media is for COYER (and auto posts from the blog).
So I don’t hate it Social Media and I do use it, but I’m not very into it either.
You’re one of the few people whose comments/posts I’ve read who doesn’t seem to hate FB LOL. But I suppose if one sticks to their groups, the ugly things stay outside. Same for Twitter with the lists. I’m pretty active on T (though most of the time I just read and reply), and lists help me a lot with only hearing what I want to hear, unless I make a conscious decision to scroll/look into hashtags.
I can take them or leave them…lol. I use to be all about them and trying to keep up with everything and now I rarely instagram and hardly ever tweet…lol.
I still haunt Twitter because that is real time chatting, but I definitely don’t go on very much anymore. Facebook is for posting blog info and going to author/reader groups. I like Instagram, but it’s very much a one-way source of information. Tik Tok – I”m too old!!
I started with Twitter and was pretty late to Facebook. I did use Tumblr for a bit. But now, it’s Twitter and Facebook, both for the blog, COYER and a few personal things. I tend to use Twitter more personally than FB maybe because I started there. But definitely FB for COYER and my neighborhood group. I haven’t bothered with Instagram or Pinterest or TikTok or Youtube, etc.
I’m with you when it comes to social media and I even avoid it when I can. I love the COYER Facebook group page and it is one of the few I’m consistently active on. I do put up a few posts a week there so I guess that is where I am most active. I like to retweet blog posts I visit to highlight their posts or tweet my own guest posts on their blogs, but I have few of my own tweets. Instagram is hit or miss for me. If I have a picture to share I post and about once a week I check out what everyone else is posting. I’ve heard of Tik Tok and that is about it. I don’t make videos so I doubt I’ll join, but more power to others.
I have learned to carve out social media blackout times for myself when I don’t go online Saturday mornings/nights and most of Sundays to spend those as family times and time away from devices. It has been great for my mental health and real life. 🙂
I mainly use Twitter. I only have FB for groups. Instagram I try to post a few times a week and scroll thru about that often –
I’m not going to make tik toks so I don’t have an account, most of the really funny ones show up on Twitter. I like blogging, I can share what I want when I want. Lastly, I miss the pre-FB days of message boards. Ah, the good old days!
I tried Tik Tok because so many people I follow are on it but honestly I can’t seem to get it. 😆
I definitely cannot keep up with Social Media trends! I really only actively use Instagram. I’m active on Twitter, but most of my posts are automated as well. I don’t even have SnapChat or TikTok or whatever else has been popping up. I don’t even think it’s necessary. Just stick with whatever platform we’re comfortable using and like. No need to be where the cool kids are. 😛
“No need to be where the cool kids are. 😛”.
Haha, I love this.
