Tell Me Something Tuesday was hosted by Rainy Day Ramblings, but she has (temporarily?) stopped blogging. So a group of us that had been doing posts (Linda from Book Girl of Mur-y-Castell, Karen from For What It’s Worth, Roberta from Offbeat YA, Jen from That’s What I’m Talking About and me) decided to get together, come up with some more topics and keep the meme going.Michelle made us a logo and we’re off and running. For more details, check out this post where I reintroduced the meme.
I can be sporadic, but when I do join in I will always share next week’s topic at the end of the post. So, today is about…
How do you feel when everyone loves a book except for you?
This hasn’t happened to me too often, but when it does happen, I’m totally okay with it. Because I also love books that not everyone loves. Not every book is for everyone, right? It’s actually one of the things I enjoy most about our COYER book club. Sometimes we all love a book, but very frequently 1 or 2 people feel differently than the rest. And the conversation that creates is awesome. Sure, there are also great conversations where we all love the books – because gush fest is also great. But dissenting opinions make you see things differently, even if doesn’t change your mind about the book.
For example, Michelle and I are co-bloggers, great friends but we have INCREDIBLY DIFFERENT reading tastes. We periodically will read a book together or at the suggestion of the other and most the time we do not agree. Either she loves it and I’m “meh” about it or I love it and she DNFs it. But it’s fun to have had that experience together and to disagree over a story.
I mostly read books that aren’t very popular, so it’s not like I notice being the odd one out, because I was “out” to begin with LOL.
It’s funny that you and Michelle buddy-read so often even if you already know that, most of the times, one of you won’t like the book (that much or at all). I’m fine with people not liking my books and viceversa, but I can only buddy-read a book if there’s at least a chance that we both like it, because I need to discuss it in depth, which couldn’t happen if my buddy wasn’t interested.
Everyone has different tastes in books so I’m fine if others like a book that I don’t or vise versa.
It always feels a little bad being on the outside but I don’t care either. To each their own and I like to hear differing opinions no matter how I felt.

I agree, Berls. I do love having one person who agrees with my opinion either way b/c it’s more fun to discuss. But it really doesn’t matter to me.
