Carys Jones loves nothing more than to write and create stories which ignite the reader’s imagination. Based in Shropshire, England, Carys lives with her husband, two guinea pigs and her adored canine companion Rollo.

When she’s not writing, Carys likes to indulge her inner geek by watching science- fiction films or playing video games.

She lists John Green, Jodi Picoult and Virginia Andrews as her favorite authors and draws inspiration for her own work from anything and everything.

To Carys, there is no greater feeling then when you lose yourself in a great story and it is that feeling of ultimate escapism which she tries to bring to her books.

jss_aprilshowers_stitches straight purpleHi Carys welcome to my blog :)I am so happy to be able to chat with you today

1. Can you tell us a little bit about yourself?

I’m twenty eight and I live in Shropshire which is roughly located in central England. I’ve been writing since a very young age and love creating stories. I’m a wannabe Disney Princess at heart and the study where I work is a shrine to all my favourite Disney movies!

2. Can you tell us about the characters in your book?

The central characters in Prime Deception are a pair of twin girls called Lorna and Laurie. Despite looking identical they are actually very different in their personalities. But despite their differences they are one another’s best friend and share an unbreakable bond. So when Lorna seemingly commits suicide Laurie is bereft as she’s not only lost her sister but the main person in her life. She refuses to believe that Lorna would just choose to leave her like that and so she sets out to uncover the truth about her twin’s death.

3 .How long does it take for you to write a book?

It usually takes me around 3 months to complete a book. I’m very strict with myself but I also limit the amount I write per day so that my writing doesn’t become stale. I like to write everyday so that I remain as connected as possible with the story and characters. I find that if I stay away from them for too long I feel guilty as their lives are still unresolved until I write their ending for them!

4. Do you have a specific time during the day that you find better to write?

Ideally I like to write in the morning. I’m at my sharpest then and less likely to be distracted.

5. What books are you reading now?

I’m currently reading the Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater in paperback and on my Kindle I’m reading The Dracian Legacy by Priya Kanaparti. I’m due to join the Reuts family, who published The Dracian Legacy in Fall 2014 with my next release.

Both are YA fantasy novels and completely amazing. There’s just been a huge plot twist in Raven Boys which caught me completely by surprise! Love it!

6. Is writing your full time job? If not what do you do?

I’m really lucky that I get to write full time from home. I write my own books and also take on freelance projects. I adore writing and am thankful every day that I get to commit so much time to my dream.

7. What do you like to do when you are not writing?

When I’m not writing I enjoy walking my dog, Rollo, through the woodlands near my home, hanging out with my friends who all live nearby and catching up on my favourite TV shows like Greys Anatomy, Mad Men and Vampire Diaries.

8. When you read what format do you prefer to read in (Paper/Hard Cover or E-reader)?

I read in both paperback and e-book format. I’ve got a Kindle which I take and read out and about with me, then at night I tend to read my paperback books. I like both formats but with e-books, you can’t easily flip to the final page to check that your favourite character survives! I know its naughty but I’m often guilty of a final page peek! I can’t bear the suspense of waiting!!

9. Can you share a little of your current work with my readers?

Sure! Check out this exclusive excerpt from Prime Deception below;

‘I just … I feel so lost without her,’ Laurie confided, her eyes trained to the floor as she spoke. It was out of character for her to make such a vulnerable admission. Perhaps it was being in the office where Lorna would have been, wearing clothes which she would have chosen, that suddenly made Laurie aware of just how desperately she missed her sister. ‘Until this is resolved I can’t move on. I need to know what happened because a part of me died that day too.’

The compassion Charles felt towards Laurie as she opened up to him welled up inside of him to the point where it felt as though it would come bursting out of his chest.

‘I’m going to look into this as much as I can, I promise you that.’ Charles liked playing the role of the hero. The ability to potentially wade in and rid Laurie of her tears made him feel more powerful and important than his role as Deputy Prime Minister ever had. Her heart was breaking and he was determined to mend it; in his mind there was no greater call to arms.

‘I really do appreciate you helping me.’ Laurie looked up now, locking eyes with Charles, which made his flesh prickle with heat as though his entire body had just caught aflame. ‘I forget that this must be hard for you too.’

10. If you can recommend one book for someone to read what would it be? (not including yours)

I can’t recommend enough The Fault in Our Stars by John Green. I read it last summer and it is simply amazing. I spent a majority of my teenage years suffering with illness so the story really resonated with me and John Green does a brilliant job of delicately tackling such a serious issue. The story is beautifully heart breaking and everyone should read it.

Thank you so much for having me it’s been awesome! : )
