I had an idea of doing a guest post during the month of October so I asked a few of my friends from COYER what is their favorite Monster is (some are not so scary) and what book they read that they loved that associated with the Monster they picked. The answers are great and the recommendation are even better! Enjoy!
The Monster & The Book
When Michelle put out a call for bloggers to talk about their favorite monster, I didn’t jump at it fast enough so my favorite was taken. (Werewolf or shifters) My next to the favorite though is ghost/haunted houses.
I love to read horror but what I like the most about horror is not the gore but the creep factor. I don’t want to be grossed out I want to be scared and I think ghost and haunted house books are really the best for that kind of creep factor I am talking about.
As I write this post I am realizing that I have seen more ghostly movies than I have read books and I need to remedy that! Though I did recently read a book that featured a ghost as a guys friend and she could be scary as she was a vengeance ghost and liked to kill murderers. That book was The Suffering and you can see a review on my blog of that one. 🙂
Though when I think think ghost/haunted houses I think The Shining by Stephen King. Nobody, that I have read does creepy haunted house as well as King. I can think of several spooky house reads that came before this one, but I am ashamed to admit that I haven’t read them. 🙁 So for my choice I have to go with The Shining. Stephen King has a way with words that just brings a spooky house to life and keeps you up at night.
There is nothing creepier than being stuck in a blizzard in a hotel that has evil lurking inside! It’s been a long time since I read this story but it still sticks with me as being a book that kept me up at night. I think it might be time for a reread! 🙂

Have a fantastic day!
Vampires and shifters are my favorite monsters. I am afraid of ghosts!! I’ve only seen parts of The Shining movie and it freaked me out. I agree with you that it isn’t the gore of books that bother me as much as things creepy. And ghosts are definitely creepy and I have a hard time sleeping after reading/watching a ghost story. I’m afraid to look in the mirror at night if I have to use the bathroom. I run back to bed once I’m done lol.
Werewolves and shifters are my favourite monster too. I haven’t read a lot of ghosts or haunted house books so far, I did read a few good ones. I remember a YA ghost romance book I once read wich was pretty good. Oh and in kelley Armstrong her anthology Led Astray was a good haunted house, she also has some ghosts and necromancers in her other series. I haven’t read any of Stpehen King his books, although I might have to check one out when I am in the mood for a creepy read.
*shudders* The Shining was AWFUL! So scary! And such a great pick, Stormi!
I love ghosts! I’ve read several with them featured, but for the life of me I can’t think of a single title at the moment. Story of my life. LOL
I love The Shining. It is my favorite King movie and second favorite book. My favorite book is Misery.
I highly recommend the ghost series Downside Ghosts by Stacia Kane, especially on audio. The main character is a ghost hunter/exorcist. It is also kinda dystopian. The ghosts rise up and take over the surface of the earth before they could be pushed back.
That is a series I really want to try on audio! 🙂
Oh look it’s me on your blog….he he he .:) Ghost are just awesome! I love haunted house type stuff! 🙂
Me too! I never read this book but I watched the movie and loved it! Hard to find good haunted house books.
Hands down one of my favorite King novels, if not favorite horror novel. I have read it twice and I really don’t reread books. I can still envision that maze!
