My Review:

I tried to read this book once or twice before breaking down and getting the audiobook. I am not sure if it was the narrator but I really enjoyed listening to this, however, I realized that if I had to read this book I don’t know if I would have been able to finish it…let me explain.

Alice or Ali was a great character, I loved her chemistry with Cole, regardless of how brooding he was, I loved his protective nature and you really got that connection that they cared about each other. Insta-love? Yes, now normally I am not a fan but they had these vision and I think that connection is what made the love so instant but I’m guessing. I also adored her relationship with her BFF Kat, Kat was just so full of life and totally out there. She was so much fun and no matter what Ali said Kat was pretty much the friend that didn’t take no for an answer. The rest of Cole’s crew are awesome and I really enjoyed the relationship between Kat & Frost, hostile but very cute.

The story while I found it rather slow at times and very descriptive, a lot of what she was saying I felt was to much, but I did enjoy it…weird I know. The Zombie part of the book was very well done and I loved Gena take on Zombies in this book, very original and totally unique, the end of this book was amazing and made me want so much more that I actually bought the next two books in audio series because I need to find out what happens to all of them and how Cole and Ali’s relationship grows (or does it fall apart?).

So I don’t forget the Narrator of this book Natalie Gold was very good, she needs to show a little more emotions and at times read very slow (but I think that was the pace of the book) I found her voice for the characters to be wonderful and I look forward to reading the rest of the series with her.

I started this book thinking it was going to be about 3.5 stars but as I got to know the characters and really got to understand the zombie background I really started to like this book a lot more than I realized, I wanted to give it more stars but the slowness of the story made me settle on 4 stars.

BTW if you are looking for a Alice in Wonderland retelling with Zombies you are not going to find it in the book, it does reference a few time but I think it’s just a quirky thing she put in the book to give a hint of Alice’s Wonderland Characters but it’s NOT a retelling.

    • If it wasn’t for Berls and I reading it together I might have also held off on reading it but I really think this book is a hit or miss. I loved it Berls not so much.

  1. Sounds like the audio is definitely the way to go for this one. I’m not a big insta-love fan but I can buy it in intense situations when the main characters are having to work as a team. It’s good to know it’s not a retelling with zombies as that’s what I would have expected. While this isn’t on the top of my list I think I will look for the audio. It’s outside of my usual genre but I’m intrigued. Great review!
