Blog News – A Fresh Start

Wow, what a week y’all! Those of you who saw Michelle’s announcement on Monday or mine on Sunday know that this week Michelle and I joined forces and became co-bloggers. Who am I kidding? She adopted me because we both weren’t ready for me to leave, but we also both knew my blog was over. I’m so grateful to Michelle for taking me in, I’m already feeling more excitement for blogging than I’ve felt in months.

Of course, it’s bittersweet. It was sad saying goodbye to my blog, which has been such a great home for 4 years. But it’s still there if I ever decide I went to fly solo again. For the time being, though, this feels like the right decision for both of us.

Now that this is my home, Michelle has generously allowed me a place to do a Sunday post still, since it was one of the highlights of my week back at Fantasy is More Fun. So that the blog doesn’t get too overwhelmed, though, look for me Saturday evenings instead of Sunday Mornings, when Michelle will be posting her Sunday Post and Week-in-Review.

News at Home

It would be impossible to catch y’all up on the MONTH’S of activity and news at home. Let me give you a couple highlights though!

The school year ended on a really high note with a fabulous kinder graduation and I’m so proud of my kiddos! I’ve been working pretty much all summer – organizing, planning for next year, printing, laminating and cutting out center supplies, etc. It’s never ending, but I feel really good about it and where it should leave me for the school year.

I got hit with a slight blow in May – turns out, I’m allergic to the effing sun! Ya’ll seriously? I LOVE the sun! But I get serious rash now when exposed to it, so I’m constantly covering up and avoiding the sun a bit.

Which did complicate our family vacation at the end of June/beginning of July to Galveston beach just a little bit. Ended up being an amazing time though and – who knew? They make SPF clothing! So I had spf swimwear and, though I had to restrict my time, I still had a blast.

#FitReaders Update

Not much going on here except that I’m totally sucking at all aspects :/

its-monday-what-are-you-reading

It’s Monday! What Are You Reading? is a place to meet up and share what you have been, are and about to be reading over the week. This meme started with J Kaye’s Blog and then was taken up by Sheila from Book Journey. Sheila then passed it on to Kathryn at the Book Date. And here we are!

Since I don’t really have a special place for this anymore, I thought I’d include it in my Sunday Posts. Just a quick look at what I’m currently reading.

Reading Now…

Since I was feeling a bit down I decided it was time for a re-read of Harry Potter. I’m listening to the British Version and I’m currently on The Goblet of Fire. Loving them again!

I’m reading a book I’ve been reading for a very long time now… The Glass Sword. It’s good – the sequel to Red Queen, which I loved and devoured.

The reason it’s taking a while is that at night, I keep getting busy with reading school books. Right now I’m reading Teaching with Love and Logic. I’ve read snippets in the past, but I wanted to do a thorough book study this summer. So far, loving it!

Kind of on the back burner, but still being read I also am reading Tools for Teaching and F*ck Club. No one ever said I don’t have a varied taste, huh?

How was your week? What are you Reading?

Berls is ready for a fresh start in her new home! Come say hi! Share on X

  1. Glad to see you back at blogging. Glad you were able to still have fun on your vacation. You will get used to finding ways of getting outside and staying out in the sun. I’m glad that the SPF clothing is working for you. I also use the Neutrogena sunscreen that comes in a really high SPF for anything not covered by clothing. I hope you have a great week.

    • Thanks Melanie, it’s good to be back. I’m going to have to try to find some more light weight covers – I feel so hot everytime I go out right now :/ I’ve heard the Neutrogena sunscreen is good, but haven’t tried it yet.

Have a great week Melanie πŸ™‚

  2. That’s great you’re feeling more excited about blogging again, it sure sounds like joining Michelle here was the right decision :). That sounds like a good solution with you posting on Saturday evening and Michelle on Sunday morning. I am glad to hear your school year ended well and you sound busy preparing for next year already.

I am sorry to hear about your sun allergy. I think I recently saw some sort of sun screen that was supposed to help for that. not sure if it works though. It sound annoying to be allergic to the sun as that’s something that’s hard to avoid. I think I am allergic to some metals, but at least that’s sort of easy to avoid. That does sound handy they have spf clothing and swimwear so you could still swim during your vacation.

I hope you’re enjoying your books and have a great week!

    • The longer I’m here at Because Reading, the more I wonder why I didn’t do it sooner. It was a good move πŸ™‚

The sun allergy is a total bummer – it’s so hard to avoid. I basically have to stay covered up all the time. Annoying but manageable. But I’m liking summer much less than I used too!!

Have a great week Lola πŸ™‚

  3. Yay for teaming up with Michelle! You two will be great together! I love getting things set up for my classroom in June because then I don’t have to stress so much at the beginning of the year. Also, I love cutting lamination. Its soothing!
Bummer about the sun. That would be a terrible allergy but I am glad you were able to enjoy your vacation!

    • Thanks! I think we’ll be a great team too πŸ™‚ Yeah, I already feel way better about next school year – so little. To do next month when we get going (yikes! Next month!!!)

      Have a great week!

  4. I’m so glad you guys are teaming up! While I should have been doing some work over the summer for my classroom that it seems I am tied to for the rest of my life (seriously, I need to move and be with my babies!), but I didn’t do one single thing. What a great way to end the year. Ours was much more lackluster. How in the world are you allergic to the sun? That stinks! I’m allergic to something or something’s gotten to me. I’ve got a nice flare going on my arms and it’s not going away. I hope you have a great week!

    • On one hand it feels good to be getting a lot of work done, but on the other I wouldn’t mind a little more rest!

The sun allergy… Yeah, I know that was my response too. Mine started with a flare up on my arms that got ridiculous enough to go to the doctor after a day outdoors for field day. I hope you’re not having something similar :/

      Have a great week!

  5. It’s good to see you back Berls! I can imagine how crazy the last couple of months have been for you and it’s great to hear you ended the school year with a high note. Sorry to hear about your allergy but it’s cool there are SPF clothes. I had no idea! I hope you have a great week =)

    • Thanks Kathy, it’s good to be back πŸ™‚ the sun allergy is a bummer, but apparently I’m not alone. Why else would they have so much spf clothing?! I had no idea either. Have a great week πŸ™‚

    • Thanks Laura! I feel like the two of us on the same blog is destined to bring about a lot of “I have an idea” conversations πŸ™‚ but that should be fun right?! Have a great week!

  6. That is strange that you are allergic to the sun that has got to be hard living in a state that is so hot. I am so glad you decided to come aboard and blog with Michelle!! I have been missing your post!

Hope you have a great week!

    • Yeah, it’s the worst. I’m staring to like summer a lot less because of it. I feel trapped inside or under sweaters in sweltering heat.

It’s so good to be here, it’s so much easier than blogging alone and I feel a renewed excitement! So you’ll be seeing me around again πŸ™‚ have a great week!

  7. Glad you have a new home and I think this match will work out nicely. I’d hate to see you go as well. That sucks about being allergic to the sun. Does that mean you are part vampire? Just kidding. Can’t wait to see some of your new posts!

    • I couldn’t agree more Barb! It would have sucked to leave completely, and yet, I just couldn’t MAKE myself blog at Fantasy Is More Fun anymore. And seriously? What’s the point of blogging if you’re making yourself, right?

LOL! Yep, total vampire here! If only I was getting some of the vampire perks. I do avoid the sun a lot more now, though. Always wear sweaters/shawls (which sucks in TX heat) and tons of sunscreen. Summer used to be my favorite, but I’m not so sure anymore :/

      Have a great week!

  8. Yay! You’re here!!! Welcome and much success to you.

It’s mind boggling that you’ve finished the kinder school year. I can still remember your panic when you inherited your first class. Now you’re a pro.

Looking forward to everything from you.

    • Yep! I’m here and feeling very comfy πŸ™‚

OMG I know! How did that happen? My panic – especially since I had no early childhood training! And now, I feel so confident in my classroom. I mean, yeah, I have some nerves about the group I’ll end up with next year and I’m eagerly learning all that I can over the summer and prepping more tools. But yeah bring it on. And don’t you dare take me out of Kinder! LOL!

      Have a great week Jonetta!

  9. Happy Sunday you guys! Nice to see you joining forces to combat the forces of evil… er, blog I mean. Best of luck! Glad to hear too that your school year went well and you’re feeling good about your summer preps.

I didn’t know you could be allergic to the sun but I’m not surprised. and is it me or do we fry faster than we used to? The natural world can be irritating… πŸ™‚

    • Hahaha! Yes, we’ve joined forces and I have to say, I’m wondering why we didn’t do it sooner! It takes such a weight off.

Right?! I had no idea you could be allergic to the sun! I had been developing a rash on my left arm – the side that gets sun exposure while driving – for a while, but hadn’t made the connection. Then we had field day and I was outside all day. Both my arms flared up horribly – the left arm (Because it was already irritated I guess) actually seemed like boils! So I went to the doctor and bam! Sun allergy. I take allergy meds and everything. It’s crazy – but since I’ve been taking precautions I haven’t had any trouble, thankfully. The natural world is certainly kicking our butts lately… :/

Have a great week Greg πŸ™‚

  10. I just caught this post on Twitter as I was posting! A Sunday Post on my Sunday morning, I love that! School sounds like it was a great ending. And who says teachers get long frivolous holidays. Little do they know. Do not work too hard, get a good rest.
Pity about the sun allergy. I have a full cover up swimsuit now, that is a SPF , I think they will more and more be the way to go. Love mine, made here in NZ. Great varied taste in reading indeed! Enjoy.

    • Ha! I love that it’s Sunday morning SOMEWHERE when I’m posting! School really did come to a good conclusion. I’m trying not to work too hard, but I also have so much I want to get done before school starts again. The more prepared I am, the more confident I’ll be, the better work-life balance I’ll get to have, etc. I am binge watching Charmed while I work though, so that’s relaxing πŸ™‚

I agree – the spf thing seems to be semi-new, but I think it’s in response to more and more people getting sun allergies/sensitivities. It’s the way to go for sure!

      Have a great week Kathryn!
