News at Home: 3rd Trimester Finally!
OMG I know I have been pretty much MIA for months and I’m super sorry for that, but y’all pregnancy has been HARD. Yesterday marks the start of my 3rd Trimester – so I’m 7 months (more accurately 28 weeks) now. I have been struggling with lots of nausea and vomiting throughout the 2nd trimester, something I had heard stopped in the 1st… but apparently not for a few lucky souls. I don’t have extreme constant nausea and vomiting like some people, so I’m counting myself semi-lucky. My longest stretch without vomiting is 14 days… current stretch, I’m on day 4 no vomiting (assuming I didn’t throw up on Saturday when I wrote this). I invested in vomit bags to keep in my car because it was becoming dangerous trying to pull over while driving. They come in packs of 15 and I’ve had to reorder twice. So yeah… I don’t exactly have that pregnancy glow they talk about.
In fact, have you seen that movie – What to Expect When You’re Expecting? It’s from like 2012 – so not recent. Well I’m SO Elizabeth Banks character, Wendy (my husband and I watched it this week for a good laugh at our own current situation, that’s why it’s so fresh). They tried to get pregnant for 2 years (we were like 8 years) and while she’s genuinely so happy and trying so hard to stay positive, pregnancy is just rough for her – and she’s watching her mother-in-law (for me it’s a friend who’s about 36 weeks now, but I LOVE her, we don’t have the same tension as they have) have this super easy pregnancy, which just makes your own hard time blow that much more. Here’s a clip that (1) is guaranteed to make you laugh and (2) kind of sums up why I’ve been MIA. She’s pretty much speaking to my soul here.
Seriously, laugh at it with me – if we can’t laugh at ourselves, what have we got, right?
Anyway I’m on summer break and I’m trying to make it productive because there is SO MUCH to do with baby on the way September 14th-ish (boy do I wish I could just get a firm date, my type A personality does not like that I can’t plan his exact arrival moment lol!). I was supposed to teach summer school but there weren’t enough kids this year so I only got to work 4 days. I needed the money, but it’s been a bit of a relief because there are days where I just need to rest. I’ve been working on selecting a doula – I’ve decided to get one because love my husband though I do, he’s going to be a useless birthing coach – selecting a pediatrician, trying to stay mentally and emotionally and physically healthy, reading baby books and making my birthing plan/decisions, prep for having a sub for 60 days after Dante is born, work on a will and guardianship, manage drama with my mom, etc, etc. Overwhelmed yet? I know I am. Hence, not a lot of blogging has been happening. Well, none.
I have been reading though – lots of baby, birthing, pregnancy books for my physical reads and lots of fun audiobooks (finally read the ENTIRE Kate Daniels series, for example). I haven’t been keeping it updated on Goodreads so that’s a goal for sometime this week/month.
I’m headed to a baby shower (for the above-mentioned super pregnancy friend) after the gym today … well yesterday, I’m writing this Saturday morning. My plan is to stay in Sunday and HOPEFULLY actually stop by and visit some of you. But since I woke up feeling fairly good – and hey I’m in the 3rd trimester! – I figured I’d spare a minute to say hi and update everyone! Have a great week!
I am sorry to hear your pregnancy has been so hard with all the nausea and vomiting. I hope things will go smoother for you soon. That sounds overwhelming with all the things you’re having to decide and work on. I hope you can get some rest in now that it’s summer vacation.
So great to hear from you. Sorry the pregnancy hasn’t been that easy, but glad you are staying active and healthy for the most part. And glad you finally listened to Kate. Love that series.
What did you end up planning to do in the fall? Are you going back to your school? I hope you get all your “ducks in a row” by the end of summer, while still enjoying the time. *hugs*
Yep! The plan is to work up until delivery – gotta keep as many days for after he is born! Hope all is well! *hugs *
I didn’t have nausea as long as you did but I can relate to not having the pregnancy glow! Mine was a highly anticipated desperately wanted pregnancy as well and while there were bits I enjoyed I was so glad when he was born! I ended up being induced but that was because I had pre-eclampsia which was bad but it was nice to know what was going to happen. Though that wasn’t determined until 36 weeks. My cousin was one that breezed through pregnancy with no issues but she had a tough time with labor and while I wouldn’t do it for fun it was okay and not too long. Just remember – epidurals are your friend! Best of luck and get lots of rest!
The Kate Daniels series rocks!
I’m sorry to hear your pregnancy has been so rough but, corny as it sounds, it’ll all be worth it in the end!
Hey Berls glad to hear from you! You sound busy! But with a pregnancy getting close to term I guess you would be haha! I honestly don’t know how you women do it- the whole pregnancy thing, especially with nausea and all that. Argh I’d die lol. Anyway… hope your summer goes amazing and the nausea/ vomiting takes a hike.
Have an awesome week 🙂
Sorry to hear you’ve had such a rough time of it with the nausea. Sounds miserable. I had to laugh at that clip, though. Elizabeth Banks is priceless. Hope you’re able to relax a bit today as planned… sounds like you could use it! Take care. 🙂
Oh girl I hope you are sick for the rest of the pregnancy! That would be awful! Hopefully the rest of the summer is restful!
Whew, yeah, you need to catch a break there, lady. It does boggle the mind how one can be miserable and the gal next to you is barely inconvenienced. Lots going on around you, too. Hopefully, it will all settle down and you can be at ease.
Have a good week, Berls!
It will be over soon and you will have that little handsome boy to cuddle. It will be worth all the puke! lol
We have both been so busy! But we are good, the blog might be slow in the summer but it’s ok, it happens. We can call these years our hiatus years. Life is just too busy and it’s ok. We both have some great things going on! 🙂
Have a wonderful week, my friend! Miss you! xx
You make me really glad I never got pregnant! It wasn’t really for me and now nearing mid 40’s it ain’t happening and I don’t think I could handle all that stuff you just described so kudos to you!! Hope the third trimester goes better and the nausea stops!!
Have a great week and happy reading!

OK, so you would have hated me pregnant, Berls… But my sister was like you – she actually puked every day for 7 months until suddenly the nausea disappeared. You can do this, though!
I can’t wait to see you in 6 1/2 weeks!
Have a wonderful week ahead and happy reading. *hugs*
Glad to hear that you’re doing okay overall. It amazes me how different pregnancy is for each person (and each pregnancy for that matter). It is so easy for some and so hard for others. And one pregnancy can be easy and the second one can be hard. Good luck.
