The short version

In comparison to most week’s lately, this week was drama free and pretty good. I battled being very tried, but that my be at least partly my own fault for taking Tylenol PM too often. I also got lots of free food this week – from groceries on Wednesday to dinner on Friday. That’s the short of it, read on for the details.

Sunday – 1/31

Today was busy! Dante didn’t sleep in (of course) despite our super late night, so I was pretty tired. After breakfast, I went and picked up groceries from Walmart and Target. I got home just in time to kick of COYER Book Club and I did book club while putting away groceries. When that finished it was time for our COYER Readalong chat, which I enjoyed with my lunch. Then it was finishing laundry, cooking dinner, and getting ready for the week. The day went by in a blur and I’m exhausted.

Monday – 2/1

Today I started training my replacement and I don’t feel like I accomplished anything. I did do some spontaneous writing after work, thanks to a chat with Michelle, Stephanie, and Lillian and I now I have some ideas for a mystery/thriller. I may keep going with it… we’ll see. I also got in a walk after Kiko came home from work. And I watched most of the finale of season 6 of Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I just love this season – the big villain is literally depression. Easily the best villain of the show. And Bad Ass Willow is so fun to watch, even if it is so sad to see her grief. I love the transformation it gives us though for season 7 Willow. I have a 9:30 TV off rule though (so I can get a good night’s sleep), so I’ll be finishing tomorrow.

Tuesday

Today was busy – I basically trained my replacement some more and worked on 1 project. The work day was over before I knew it and before I felt like I had accomplished anything. Dante only napped for 1 hour but when he woke up he was in a good mood and the weather was nice enough. So we went on the balcony and played a bit. I also finished the the season 6 finale of Buffy and shed a few tears as I always do. And then I got in another walk after Kiko got home from work. Then it was dinner, bath and bedtime for Dante, a little blogging and getting wrapping up my day. So far this week is drama free and I’m loving it!

Wednesday

Today was my first day having to go in to work for a regular work day. The way I’m doing it is starting my day at 7 am at home and working until about 9:30/9:45. Then I get ready and my brother is here by 10 to watch Dante, meaning I get to work by 10:30. I was hoping to finish by 4:30/5:00, but I didn’t end up leaving until closer to 5:15, which is traffic time so it took me until almost 6 to get home. And then I have to take my brother home (and he lives right by where I work) and then back home. It’s hard, but it’s the best-case-scenario. Phil and Dante had a great day and I love that they’re getting to know each other better. And Phil sends me messages and pictures – it makes it a lot easier to be away from Dante. Work went by in a blur, but I do feel like I managed to accomplish a few things. They’ve been getting donations from Central Market of groceries for hospital employees that make under a certain threshold and today I got to pick up my donations. I received 1 gallon milk, 1 gallon orange juice, 2 loaves bread, 2 dozen eggs, 2 boxes of granola bars, 2 boxes of Annie’s fruit gummies, 2 frozen family meals, 2 packages of spaghetti and 2 jars of pasta sauce. I think we’ll eat off of that for at least a week, maybe longer, so it’s a wonderful surprise. Tonight we had pizza for dinner though, because all that running back and forth meant I didn’t get home until 6:45pm – I picked up a pizza on the way home – otherwise we would have been eating around 7:30 and that’s late for Dante. He loved the pizza!

Thursday

I was so tired today! OMG going in just 1 day takes so much out of me. I couldn’t get my butt moving so I didn’t workout this morning. I was super busy today, but after work I did enjoy some Bachelor (I say enjoy loosely, that show pisses me off, but I’m also hooked) and I also started on this week’s episodes of MAFS. Cooked dinner, finished my audio book and am trying to get to bed a little early. I’ve been taking Tylenol PM pretty much every night – I’m falling asleep easier and without the pain in my back and hip bothering me. But I’m worried I’m growing dependent. So I’m debating skipping it tonight. We’ll see.

Friday

Didn’t skip the Tylenol PM, since I was having trouble falling asleep. But I ended up sleeping well and oversleeping a bit. I started my workout and then realized I just don’t have time and really wasn’t wanting to do it. The scale is up and on one hand I’m like DO SOMETHING about it and on the other hand I just want to throw in the towel. I’m just so TIRED.

Work was rough today. On one hand, I was finished at 12:30 due to OT. But in the time I was on I was nonstop and there was the mistake that basically comes back to me – Excel didn’t add right (seriously, if excel can do math, what good is it?) and I didn’t catch it and we were short 21 lunches on these donations we organized for hospital staff. So it was a mad flurry of getting them delivered. And then I was off for the day, thank goodness.

I fed Dante, put him down for a nap, finished my MAFS and took a nap myself. We ordered some dinner – Thai food – and while I was waiting for it I went for a walk. After 1 hour, the food still hadn’t arrived and the tracker wasn’t working on Grub Hub. So I got on the help chat and rather than tracking down the order they just canceled and refunded. And we were like, “WTF, now what do we do? It’s past dinner time and what we order something else, cook something quick?” So I called the restaurant and they said the driver was in our complex and couldn’t find us and Grub Hub hadn’t given him our number. So we connected, got our food, and I contacted Grub Hub to let them know. They said we’d still get our meal for free, due to the inconvenience, but they would file it and pay the restaurant. So it worked out in our favor and the food was delicious.

Saturday

Today I was STUPID tired. I’m starting to think that the Tylenol PM is staying in my system, because I’ve just been so exhausted this week. When Dante woke up – 7:45, not that early – I lay on the couch half awake and let him play. Then I made breakfast – french toast, since I have so much bread from the free groceries this week. After breakfast, Kiko was up, so I went to lay down and watch some Buffy the Vampire Slayer. I don’t know exactly when, but I feel asleep. Kiko came and turned off the TV, draped a blanket over me, turned out the light and closed the door. 2.5 hours or so later, I woke up. I felt better, but was still a little drowsy. So tonight, I’m determined to skip the Tylenol PM. I know you’re not supposed to take it regularly, it was just nice to be getting a deep, pain free sleep. But I think it’s backfiring now.

I didn’t really do much today, I was very lazy between the nap and tv watching. Some playing with Dante and some reading. That’s it.

FitReaders (hosted by Jen @ That’s What I’m Talking About & Felicia The Geeky Blogger)

I’m keeping a scorecard to track my fitness goals. It’s something my nutritionist suggested to help me move past my perfectionism. My current goal is to get to 60 points a week – something I can do without doing perfect every day.

My big goal for 2021 is to get down to my goal weight. It means losing 70 pounds this year. I can’t believe how poorly I’m doing. I’m gaining not losing. And I feel like throwing in the towel honestly. I won’t but it’s so frustrating and I’m feeling very disheartened. I feel like it takes an entire week to fix 1 bad day. So I’m making no progress and I just … UGH! I’ve been struggling to get in my workouts and I’m growing bored with my salads for lunch. So I need to try something new this week before I just give up.

Added to My Shelf

I’m trying to be more responsible about keeping track of the books I acquire, so I’m going to start sharing them again. If I share them here, surely I’ll remember to add them to Goodreads, right?

How was your week? What are you Reading?

  1. Jen

I’m glad going back to the office worked out last week. I remember being SOOOO exhausted all the time when my kids were little. I was on my feet all day between work and kids, then staying up late to get my chores done. Having young kids is a lot of work! And *HUGS* with the fitness challenge. It really is frustrating that one bad day takes a week to make up. But keep at it – staying the same weight is better than gaining!

  2. I’m sorry to hear that you’re tired all of the time but I can definitely relate. Tylenol PM (or any of the PMs) don’t really work on me because the PM part is basically Benadryl and I’ve taken so much of that over the years it doesn’t make me sleepy anymore but I know it can cause serious grogginess to people who are sensitive to it. It knocks my husband flat for days! Maybe try a low dose of melatonin? That can help me get to sleep when I just can’t get my brain to shut up. It won’t make you sleepy if you’re not though so it’s not exactly a sleeping pill which is how it’s marketed. That’s great about the groceries and that the babysitter situation seems to be working out! Can you maybe have your brother start a crockpot meal on those days? You could have it ready and he just has to take it out of the fridge and start it at a certain time? I don’t know if it would work for you but I do this with my husband on the days when Will and I are at the hospital all day and it makes life easier. I just have to prep it the night before. Have a great week!

  3. A drama free week is definitely a plus! I hope you are able to rest some and the constant tiredness and pain fade. You are ahead of me on Buffy. I know we’re coming up on the sad episode. I remember how shocking it was the first time I saw that one. That is so awesome that the local market is donating food to hospital staff. I hope you have a great week, Berls!

  4. I’m sorry you had such a rough week. I finally had less pain and more good days than bad ones for pain. That doesn’t mean any days were pain-free however. Tylenol PM sounds like what I need, if it lasts longer than regular version. I am only getting about 4-6 hours of sleep at night but sometimes, like today, then I sleep in the morning. It’s more adjusting to new circumstances and routines. I’m looking forward to starting Caressed by Ice after dinner. I LOVED Echoes of Silence too.

  5. That’s nice your week was low on drama and free food is always nice! How neat you got some some free food form the hospital and then a free meal due to the trouble with your grub hub order. Too bad about being so tired, that’s really frustrating and it’s so hard to get anything done when you’re feeling so tired. That’s nice Phill could spend some time with Dante, but that does sound tiring having to drive home and then almost back to your work again. I hope you can figure out whether it’s the Tylenol causing you to be so tired, but being in pain is difficult too. I hope your next week is a good one!

  6. That’s odd, usually when I take a sleep aid it doesn’t last through the next morning. I usually get a little tired, but I also exercise so that’s part of the reason! Lol. Doesn’t give me the energy to conquer the day like they say it will. Hope you can find a balance . I usually try melatonin since it’s more natural and it doesn’t leave me super groggy the next day either.

Nice new reads! Those are new to me ones but I hope you will enjoy them all!
