News at Home

This week has been a beating, mostly because of work. It’s rare that work be so taxing – but this week I am on call (Tuesday 12am – Monday 11:59pm) and my phone has been ringing off the hook. Wednesday night alone I got a minimum of 12 calls. It was the worst night and I was up from 1am – 5am taking calls and working. I also was in the office Monday and Tuesday — Monday they did take us out to lunch and Tuesday to happy hour, so it wasn’t all bad right? We also have a new girl on the team. So far, I really like her and am glad to have her. She’s shadowing me, sort of. I’ve been busy helping her get her machine setup and now working on her first task – it was kind of assigned to both of us, with me to guide her.

Besides lack of sleep and work… Well we had really bad storms Thursday evening and actually had to take shelter because of Tornado warnings. Dante did fine, he had his tablet and sat in my lap in the closet. Kiko was across from me and Buffy was cuddled in with me too. Thankfully nothing came of it in our area beyond some downed power lines.

And then Saturday we spent most the day in Campbell visiting with family. The weather was gorgeous and Dante had a good time petting the next door neighbor’s horses! I’m exhausted and really hoping to have my SECOND call free night tonight. Fingers crossed!

Challenge update

This week I finished:

I’m participating in 8 Challenges, plus my goal of 150 books (ahead by 5 books!), this year. Here’s how I’m doing.

  1. COYER Upside Down Chapter 1 – 30 books
  2. Finishing the Series – my goal is 5-8 series.
    • Series In Progress:
      1. Ice Planet Barbarians – I read book 6 this year, still need to read 7 – 22 (may not finish this year….)
      2. Iron Druid Chronicles – reading for the readalong so I know I will finish! So far re-read book 1, plus 3 shorts
      3. Witches of Hollow Cove – read book 6, still need to read 7-10
    • Completed Series:
      1. Transplanted Tales – I read book 4 this year, which is all that is published so far (but I do think more are coming, so this is probably going to end up back in progress)
      2. Spoiler Alert – book 3 was the only book I hadn’t read, so that series now caught up!
      3. A Stitch in Time  – read book 3 and 3.5 this year (more to come though!)
      4. Well Met – I read book 2 -4 this year! I think that’s it for the series 🙁
      5. Sean King and Michelle Maxwell – I read book 4- 6 this year and that’s the end of this series.
  3. Library Love – 18/60 books
  4. Thrifty Thursday – my goal is 1 book each month:
    1. January – Just Folking Around by Penny Reid
    2. February – Marking Time by April White
  5. 2023 Audiobook Challenge – 21/100 books
  6. Backlist Reader Challenge – 16/50 books
  7. Bookish Resolutions  – here are my goals:
    1. Review all books on goodreads within 1 week of reading them. Still very behind here…
    2. Keep up with My TBR List each month! So far, on track!
    3. Complete all my COYER tasks on time. Yes! This I am keeping up with thanks to our Trello board!
    4. Sunday Post at least once each month.1st for March
    5. Set aside minimum 1 hour each week for blogging.  I may not have gotten an hour this week… it was rough.
  8. 12 books from 12 friends – I shared the graphic in my first Sunday Post of the year but here are the books my friends have picked for me: (I haven’t read any yet)
    1. Filthy Rich Vampire by Geneva Lee Albin Read in January

#FitReaders2023

Felicia the Geeky Blogger and Jen @ That’s What I’m Talking About co-host this fitness-oriented group and I’m glad to be part of it for another year.

Goals for 2023:

This year I’m just focusing on habits that make me feel good and may/may not lead to weight loss. And rather than over-arching year long goals, I’ll be updating my goals on a week-by-week basis.

This week: The theme of it was rough carries over to fitness/health. I will say I have done better than I normally would have on such a rough week, so I’ll call it a win. I haven’t had soda, for example! And I’m still being mindful.

Next week: My goal is to refocus on my water and exercise as both suffered a bit this week. I’m also working on pausing before snacking to breathe and maybe even meditate a bit because I’m a stress snacker.

How was your week? What are you Reading?

  1. That’s a lot of calls. I like where I live in Vegas mostly because we don’t normally have to worry about hurricanes, tornadoes, earthquakes or other things like that. Just the hot Summer is all.

  2. Being on call is no fun! Hopefully it’ll be awhile before you have to take another turn. Glad you didn’t have any damage weather-wise and very glad Dante did so good! We had storms and a tornado warning this week but luckily it was on the other side of the county so we didn’t have to take shelter. I’m not looking forward to having to cram under the stairs with the 70lb dog! Have a great week!

  3. Hey there. Glad you stayed safe during the storms – they were bad your way. I have been gone for nearly two weeks – first to Coastal Magic Con and then on vacation with my family (visiting my folks in FL), so I’m so out of it. I had a great time and I’m not ready to go back to work tomorrow!

    • It was so great seeing you on the chat today! I hope you had fun and Costal Magic Con and visitng family and your Birthday! Ugh I hear you, I’m not ready for work tomorrow either and I’m not coming off of a holiday lol. Hope this week goes smoothly for you.
